A Look Back On Fan Films

Fans may vilify Eddie Lebron's interpretation of Mega Man (I certainly don't), but it is far from the first attempt to transition the Blue Bomber from video game to live action. Check out a few previous attempts below.

  1. Some plotholes aside, Eddie Lebron's film will be pretty good. Too bad Capcom doesn't appear to want to go the route of making a film (or animated film for the theater) anytime soon...Ah well. I still love the "Evil is Diesel!"

  2. Animated film would be ok, but even a Capcom-sanctioned live action film would be pretty awful unless it was made by the same people who did Iron Man. Even then...

  3. I am sorry to tell you that but they are all lame. oO

  4. They are SO lame...

As a rockman fan, I don't want a live action movie

am I the only one ?

  5. Yeah, all of them is bad and worthless, I'm afraid. Megaman movie, as we know it, is the most shame in the movie history. *sigh*

Capcom, don't make them Live Action Megaman! PLEASE! I beg you!!!

  6. I'm thrilled about the Eddie Lebron movie and desperately want to see it. If people are "vilifying" his story, they should knock it off and make a better version...if they can. Everyone's a critic, but not everyone's an artist. I know I could never do something like this, so I respect his work and dedication.

  7. I hate it when people say you can't criticize because you can't do better. RUBBISH!

I should be able to look at a pile of crap and say that it isn't art. Not that Lebron's film is crap... I'm not talking about that particularly.

I think this looks like just another awful fan film, but it won't be big and nobody's forcing me to watch it, so... it doesn't really matter. ;) I'll let the people looking forward to it enjoy it.

  8. I hate it when people slam something without any regard for the work that went into it. It's okay not to like something, but calling it "awful," "lame," or especially "a piece of crap" is rude. Of course, being rude is in style these days, isn't it?

Obviously, someone likes this movie, even if it's just Eddie Lebron. He's a human being like you. Respect him.

  9. Yea, I respect that he spent the time on it. That doesn't mean I have to like it. It's nothing personal, and you're the one being rude here. :P I'm just saying it's another one of those awful fan films. It could be phenomenal for a fan film, but the fact is they are what they are, fan films. I congratulate Eddie on his hard work.

The people who pick on the haters are acting like rude condescending trolls just as much as the people who are saying they don't like it. :P Keep your shirt on for cripes' sake.

  10. Heres an idea try constructive criticism. You know, say what you dont like about something but also try to come up with a way to make it better. For instance I dont like all the robot master designes in eddies film. I think they would be much better if all the robot masters were cgi.

  11. It looks decent and the fans have passion and dedication. But truth be told, I feel this movie is going to be just as bad as every other game-based movie out there.

  12. That's the thing--with fan films, there's really nothing you can say. You can try to be constructive, but there's nothing really you can do to keep it from sucking. :(

Good luck to Mr. Eddie though! I appreciate his diehard fandom.

  13. The thing about making a live action film is that it is bound to disappoint on some level. The director/producer has to find some way to represent Rock, Roll, Dr. Light, Dr. Wily, and the other robots in a real-life manner and people are going to say "that's not how I envisioned Rock, Light, etc.!" They have to find some way to represent the Rockman Universe, and its going to be hard to do with a much lower budget than Capcom, or even a large film studio would have. Still, as I said, regardless of who made a live-action film, the same disappointments would apply (heck, just look at the SUPER MARIO BROS. film from back in '93!). I'll probably watch Lebron's movie, and I think it will be alright for what it is, but it's got a lot riding against it.

  16. I don't see how anyone can defend Eddie Lebron for his "hard work". If he was working so hard he would have hired kids, or at least younger-looking people to play the two principal characters. If he was working so hard Dr. Light would be fat, Dr. Wily's mustache would actually be gray, and the robot masters would bear more than a very vague resemblance to their video game counterparts. This isn't a situation where you can say "oh but he did his best, why don't you do better?", because clearly he didn't do his best. Special effects cost a lot of money, but it doesn't take a huge budget to get at least a few things looking right which I can't say is true about Lebron's film: it reeks of amateurism.

  17. Yes, there are a lot of things that Lebron doesn't seem to have gotten right (I mean heck, Rock and Roll should be around 10-years-old or so), but you know Drs. Light and Wily would actually be in their late-40s in the time frame of MM1 and the year or so preceding it (Wily is said to be 57 in R&F, and that's quite a few years later, perhaps about 10 or so). Anyway, yes, it is somewhat amateurish because even if Lebron is a professional there's only so much he can do. No one is being forced to watch this, so...
