Mega Man Star Force Crew Returns for "Street Fighter 200" Art

Capcom's official art account, typically dedicated to showcasing archived artwork, pleasantly surprised its followers with something a little different: a fresh piece featuring the reunion of the Mega Man Star Force crew -- Geo, Luna, Zack, Sonia, and Bud (alongside his Taurus Adapter).

The caption for the piece reads, "Street Fighter 200 will be released in the year 220X! Everyone hurry to the store!"

All in all, it's a playful piece with no hidden hints or teases intended. Nevertheless, it's genuinely uplifting to see new Star Force-related art these days. Now, if only we could do something about that watermark...

Original Mega Man Legends Concept Art Preserved by Video Game History Foundation

As part of their on-going efforts to digitize and preserve video game history, the Video Game History Foundation has released a collection of Mega Man Legends concept art that may pique your interest.

Though a couple have appeared in various Japan-exclusive publications over the years, this marks the first time these images featuring Mega Man Volnutt, Roll, Tron, Teisel, Data and Servbots are being presented in their original, raw form. Some notably catch the eye—like Mega Man Volnutt's piece, which is a rougher iteration of the one depicted in Rockman DASH Great Adventure Guide.

"These come from a folder of Mega Man Legends artwork that, based on the file names, seems to predate the game’s English localization," writes VGHF's Frank Cifaldi. "The Servbots are referred to as “Lemon Heads,” while your sidekick Roll Caskett is just named “Girl.” Rude!

You can check out all these pieces directly at the Video Game History Foundation. They're planning to unveil more game history treasures throughout December, so it might be worth signing up for their newsletter while you're there.

Rockman and Iiotonatati Collaboration Teased (Updated)

Iiotonatati, the Japan-based 'Let's Play' group highlighted in Retro Revengers, a 2D adventure-platformer inspired by Rockman and featuring a soundtrack by Manami Matsumae, is gearing up for an official collaboration with Capcom's blue hero.

While it remains to be seen if the collaboration will extend to the game itself - or a wholly different piece of Retro Revengers software -- a recent tease on the game's official Twitter account hints at merchandise for this partnership. UPDATE: Rather than a collaboration specific to Retro Revengers, this is a general collaboration among with Iiotonatati themselves. The sneak peek showcases shirts and tote bags featuring a set of new Robot Masters bearing unusual names (Devil Woman, Uncle Man... Cat Man?), and an illustration of Rockman surrounded by various support items.

Iiotonatati indicated more information on this collaboration will be shared at a later date.

Capcom Redesigns Official Rockman Website

For the first time in six years, Capcom has completely refreshed their official Rockman website. The update strips down much of the leftover 30th anniversary content  which hung around for a good while after the occasion  and organizes everything in a more clean and streamlined format.

The revamped site now features a single page divided into three sections: Latest News, About, and Goods. The previous franchise timeline has been replaced by a simple "about" section that spotlights each individual Rockman series. Each series is accompanied by sleek key art alongside a small screenshot. Interestingly, the screenshot representing the EXE series appears to be from a pre-release build of the game—an unintentional oversight. Oops!

Apart from these changes, there's not much else of note. Nonetheless, the overall refresh is intriguing, especially considering that Capcom historically redesigned the site to coincide with anniversaries. However, the 35th anniversary deviated from this tradition without an overhaul. With Rockman X's 30th anniversary fast approach, perhaps this was the opportune moment.

Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection Tops 1.42 Million Units Sold

Three months ago, Capcom announced that Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection (Vol.1+Vol.2)  sold 1.32 million units as of June 30, 2023. In their latest financial report for the second quarter of fiscal year 2023, Capcom has now confirmed that the collection has achieved 1.42 million units in sales as of September 30, 2023.

While it's not too big of a jump from the previous report, it's worth noting that Capcom has only recently started to include the title in discount campaigns. This strategy is expected to lead to a steady and gradual growth in sales, similar to what was observed with Mega Man 11.

As of now, Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection still trails behind Mega Man 11 (1.80 million units) and Mega Man 2 (1.51 million units) in terms of sales, but it has rapidly secured the third best-selling selling Mega Man title, surpassing Mega Man Legacy Collection 1 (1.40 million units).

What's more? The Mega Man franchise as a whole jumped from 40 million units to 41 million units sold thanks to Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection's strong sales.

Rarely-Seen Mega Man 8 Art Unearthed and Preserved

If you're a fan of Hayato Kaji's work, I've got a neat treat for you. I recently obtained an issue of Famimaga from November 1996, which showcased Mega Man 8 as its cover story. Obscured behind a sea of text lies an exclusive piece of original artwork featuring Mega Man and Duo, never republished before.

Regrettably, extracting the image from beneath the text proved challenging. However, with Game Vacanti's assistance, we successfully located a clean version hiding within the issue's pages. We've scanned both the original cover and the clean version for your pleasure. You can view them above or directly download them here.

Additionally, this issue includes an extensive interview with former Capcom staff involved in the game's production. We're actively working on translating the interview and plan to make it available soon. Stay tuned!

Jada Toys Mega Man Figure Delayed to December (Big Bad Toystore)

Just as things were settling in place Jada Toys' new Mega Man toyline, there's unfortunate news from one retailer.

The 6-inch Mega Man figure, initially set to ship in November, is now slated for a December release. This update came via an email sent to customers who pre-ordered the figure from Big Bad Toystore. The exact reasons for this slight delay are unclear. However, the other figures in Wave 1 - Fire Man and Ice Man - currently remain unaffected and are still on track for their original release dates.

BBTS is currently the only retailer reporting this delay, and it's uncertain if others will follow. A representative from Jada Toys was unavailable for comment. We'll provide updates as they come in.

Objection! Mega Man Pays Homage to Ace Attorney in Newest Wallpaper

To mark the winner of Round 4 in the Capcom Town Elections, Capcom has put together a special set of wallpapers featuring the beloved characters connected to different "famous quotes" that were in the running for votes during the round. The question in contention was, "Which of the following is your Capcom’s famous quote?"

As you can see, Mega Man is one of the chosen ones along with a Zombie from the Resident Evil series, Masamune Date from Sengoku Basara series and a Hunter from Monster Hunter series.

The wallpapers were illustrated by Tamio, a member of Capcom's design room who provided illustrations for various Capcom goods in the last few years.

You can download Mega Man's wallpaper HERE! Please note that the image above is our own edit;  Mega Man's version says "異議あり!" ("Igiari!").

Rejected Ruby-Spears Mega Man Comic Book Pages Unearthed

Not too long ago, we uncovered an intriguing tidbit about the Ruby-Spears Mega Man cartoon - it nearly had an official comic book adaptation. Back in 1995, Bruce Hamilton Publishing had plans to bring this tie-in to life, but information about it was scarce, leaving us in the dark about what it might have looked like.

Today, I'm excited to reveal that we've gained much more insigh. Perhaps a little too much. I recently connected with a collector who managed to acquire two very interesting samples from this unpublished endeavor. These pages were crafted by the Day brothers, Dan and David, known for their work on several Marvel Comics projects, Dungeons & Dragons, and other titles.

The Capcom Vs. Osamu Tezuka Characters art exhibit is currently in full swing in Japan. For those of us who aren't fortunate enough to attend in person, Capcom's official artwork Twitter account has been sharing collaborative art created exclusively for the exhibit, as well as artwork from Capcom's archives that's currently on display.

Today, they shared a very rare piece featuring Mega Man Volnutt, Roll Caskett, Tron Bonne, Data, and a Servbot, casually hanging out with Anarkis from Darkstalkers. The illustration is the work of Ryuji Higurashi, who served as the package artist for the Japan-exclusive Rockman DASH 1 and DASH 2 PSP ports back in 2005.

Considering this information, along with the seemingly unexpected inclusion of Anarkis, it leaves me with the impression that this piece was originally created as part of a promotional campaign for the PSP, aimed at promoting the DASH ports and Darkstalkers Chronicle: The Chaos Tower. UPDATE: Sure enough, it was indeed part of a 2006 PSP campaign! The original image featured several other characters as well.

If you're headed to the show this weekend, be sure to check it out in person! I'm sure it will look even better without the watermark...

Official Mega Man NT Warrior Marathon is Coming Back to YouTube

Battle Routine set! Capcom USA and YouTube Gaming are teaming up once again for another Mega Man NT Warrior marathon. According to the official Mega Man Twitter, you can catch the live streams every day at 10 AM Pacific time.

Right now, we're not entirely sure how long this marathon will go on for. In the last marathon earlier this year, they really dug into Mega Man NT Warrior Axess and even threw in a rare dubbed episode that hadn't been shown in the United States before. Also, fingers crossed they keep the episodes available once the marathon wraps up too!

To find out how it unfolds, make sure to tune in and check out the show on Capcom USA's official YouTube channel.
