Well, at Least Xover's Theme Song is Pretty Good

Yes, Rockman Xover stinks. It's not something you'd write home about, that's for sure. However, I'm partial to one redeeming quality: the theme song. It's a rockin' tune that gets you pumped!

So, which one of you will be making the first homemade guitar cover?

It's Here: Rockman Xover Arrives on iOS

Your newest Rockman game has finally arrived.

So far it's only available on the Japanese App Store. And as promised, the game is free. Optional in-game transactions, however, cost a wee bit of Yen, anywhere from 85 Yen ($1.03) to 800 Yen ($9.75).

The game is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad (iOS 4.1 or later required). No word on an English release yet, so grab yourself a Japanese iTunes Account in the meantime. So yeah, feel free to leave impressions in the comments (try keep it civil!).

You have Spaz to thank for this!

Head over to Kotaku to see a third cover! Thanks to Mega Man Monthly for the tip.

131 Artists Take On 131 Mega Man Bosses

On December 15, a single Tumblr will play host to an exciting celebration where 131 artists will take on 131 Mega Man bosses in an all-out display of creativity and imagination. Video game designer Jason Warnke is proud to present the Mega Man Boss Battle Tribute; a digital art exhibit that will ring in the 25th anniversary in style:

"The Robot Masters of Capcom’s prolific series represented more than an epic figurehead of destruction, they represented aspiration. Stealing the boss’ power to defeat the next. Becoming the badass. Saving the world.

Megaman has deeply inspired generations of video gamers and artists. This project is to pay homage to Megaman and the hordes of Robot Masters he defeated over the last 25 years. The artists of this project have come together to pay tribute to the what we feel is one of the greatest game series’ of all time. Each artist has chosen one Robot Master of a selection of 131 classics and represented them with the artist’s unique style and inspiration."

Jason dropped me a line earlier today to fill me in on the project. In addition to a digital gallery, he is looking into setting up an actual exhibit in a San Francisco gallery. Nothing is set in stone yet, but it sounds very promising! We'll keep you posted if we hear anything.

In the meantime, head on over to the site and get yourself pumped. You can check out the full list of contributing artists here.

Wily Wars Not Included On SEGA's "New" Genesis Console

Yes, Mega Man: The Wily Wars is still coming preloaded on SEGA's Ultimate Portable Game Player. Now worries there. However, for those of you wondering if the game would be included on the portable's home console counterpart, the "new" Sega Genesis Classic Game Console, well, I've got some not-so-great news.

AtGames’ website uploaded a PDF version of the console's user manual which also includes the complete list of games included. There's no Wily Wars. Kind of a bummer, but there is some good news: you can hook up the portable system to your TV. It's been confirmed to support video-out via an AV cable (sold separately, mind you).

So all in all, if you've been on the fence about which system to get, you're better off with the portable. It's got The Wily Wars. First time you can buy it in the U.S legitimately since good 'ol 1995. The Ultimate Portable Game Player will set you back $60-- on sale now.

Mega Man 2: Dr. Wily's Castle Theme Gets A Capella Treatment

If I had a nickel for every arrangement of Mega Man 2's Dr. Wily Castle theme... I'd be a terribly rich man. And today adds one more nickel into the mix! Here's an A capella of the famous theme, sung by comedic duo Max and Sam (not to be confused with Sam & Max). It's quite catchy and, simply put, a little silly. Give it a watch!

Morishita's Arrangements are Getting a CD Release

Splendid news, music lovers. Mega Man Legends singer Reika Morishita will release her arranged versions of “Another Sun” and “Your Wind is Blowing” on CD, she reports. While she had hoped to tie the physical albums release with the upcoming 25th anniversary, production cost will force the expected release date to sometime in February.

Morishita will keep us posted on the possability of extras, too. Maybe this is what that the fan art submission even was for? Who knows! I suppose we'll find out more soon.

Did You Know Gaming? Covers Mega Man

The folks at Did You Know Gaming? are back with another video bursting with trivia -- this time focused on all things Mega Man. I can't say I learned anything new, but you might pick up on a few new interesting tidbit.

Oh, and I make a guest appearance at 2:40. Very cool!

This Supercool Kit Will Help You Make Your Own Rockman Comics

Well here's a neat piece of merchandise I've never not come across before. This is a "make your own comic" kit. It comes with different cutouts of Rockman 5 characters in varying poses, and you just place and trace to make action scenes. "Will I become the next Hitoshi Ariga if I play with this?" Probably not. The only thing guaranteed is that you'll have some fun, especially if you've got a little Blue Bomber fan to share it with.

I fondly remember playing with something similar back in the day; place and sketch Power Rangers, Batman and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles kits. I didn't have much Mega Man merch as a kid, but if I’d seen this it would have no doubt brought hours of entertainment. I used to be quite the comic book drawer, you know!

Right now the kit is being auctioned on Yahoo Auctions and sits at a mere 500 Yen (roughly $5.29 US) -- a nice value for a neat little collectible. If nobody claims it, well, I might just snatch it up myself!

Another Look At 100,000 Strong's Rocket (Updated)

Consider this a friendly reminder: two weeks from today, the folks behind 100,000 Strong for Mega Man Legends 3 will show their support for the game by launching a model rocket replica based on the design of the rocket in Mega Man Legends 3.

UPDATE: Originally planned to launch on December 8, I just received word that there might be a small delay. According to Skybane, the date might change to January 12, 2013. We aren't certain of the change just yet, but I'll be keeping an ear out. For now, though, the event is still going to take place at the Hearne Municipal Airport in Hearne, Texas. You'll get to meet fellow fans, shake hands with Hopie-chan, and have an all-round good time. For those who can't make the trip, the event will be recorded and broadcasted online later. More details here.

If you can make it, good for you. Should be fun. If not, well, you and I can enjoy it from afar when it hits the web. We'll be there in spirit!

Rockman Online Vanishes from NeoWiz Main Page

In a move that's all too familiar with Mega Man Legend 3's demise, NeoWiz have dropped Rockman Online from their front page RPG section. The game's homepage is still live, but it could only be a matter of time before it goes dark. You might as well head on over there now and save those assets.

At the end of the day, it's one more nail in Rockman Online's coffin. This comes just a few months after the game’s environment artist Kang Dong Hwa admitted the project was dropped. Even though his comment was quickly removed, NeoWiz didn't come forward to confirm or deny the game's cancellation.

Quite frankly, NeoWiz's comment is no longer necessary. All signs point to the same conclusion: Rockman Online is a goner.

Have Some Delightful Maverick Customs

A Nico Nico user has produced an entire line of custom Mega Man X1 figures -- Sting Chameloen, Launch Octopus, Flame Mammoth, the whole gang! Some even have their own accessories; fire balls, extendable tongues, etc.

All in all, these are some top-notch figures. Bandai Tamashii might have some competition!

R20+ Is Huge, Due On December 17

Following the recent announcement of "R20+ Rockman & Rockman X Official Complete Works: Revised Edition”, E-Capcom has begun accepting pre-orders. The listing brings some new details about the forthcoming art book. Most important, it now has a specified release day of December 17, 2012 (just in time for the 25th anniversary). It will be 432 pages in A4 format, the same size as its predecessor. By comparison, the original R20 was 331 pages!

As previously reported, manga artists Hitoshi Ariga and Yoshihiro Iwamoto will be submitting special illustrations for the book. Moreover, it's assumed we'll see some stuff from Mega Man 9 and Mega Man 10 since they came out after the original R20. More details are expected to drop in the near future, however, so we should have confirmation soon.

Would You Buy These Mega Man Legends Fan-Figures?

Over the last year, brothers Score and Owl have produced a trio of incredible Mega Man Legends figures: Mega Man Volnutt, Teisel Bonne and Bon Bonne. They've made a handful of accessories and trinkets too, but the action figures is where it's truly at! And today, the brothers are eying the producing of two all-new figures.

A quick peak at Owl's Facebook page reveals two potential figures: a Servbot and Arukoitan, a breed of Reaverbot native to Kattelox Island. "Potential" is the key word here because Owl's going to need your feedback. If there's enough interest, we'll see these two sculpts made into actual figures. Simply drop a comment in this post here, and we'll see what the future holds!

For more information and pictures, you can head on down to the official Score Owl Productions Facebook page here.

Good luck, boys!

Capcom Bar Serves "Rockman Honey Toast"

For those not in the know, Capcom actually has a bar in Japan. The place serves Capcom themed food and, for one reason or another, never offered anything Rockman-related on the menu. Until now.

Beginning in December, the bar will serve "Rockman honey toast." For a limited time, you can grab it from the 2,500 Yen course meal ($27.44) or the 3,500 Yen course meal ($42.74). What exactly is honey toast, you ask? It's a dessert; ice cream served inside a sweet loaf of bread topped off with honey and, traditionally, some fruit. It's reportedly delicious, moreso at the Capcom bar with a dash of Rockman served on top.

All in all, it comes down to price. This is one expensive dessert... you're probably better of making your own honey toast

25th Anniversary Feature in GAMESIDE Magazine

The newest issue of GAMESIDE, a Japanese gaming magazine, is set to hit newsstands on December 3rd. This particular issue will play host to a Rockman retrospective covering the franchise's 25-year history. Moreover, it will include a new interview with Megamix author/illustrator Hitoshi Ariga.

With any luck, the retrospective may clue us in on the franchise's future, which has been all but clear. If there's anything interesting inside, I'll flex those connections to bring you all the details!

Capcom Trademarks "Fighters of Capcom"

Get the speculation train a-chuggin’. On November 8th, Capcom filed a trademark for "Fighters of Capcom." What kind of game is it? We can't say for certain. I like to think this may finally be that dream game; you know, the one where Capcom characters actually fight each other to a pulp in a no-holds-barred brawl. No Marvel or SNK folks allowed.

But there's also the possibility this is the localized name for Capcom All Stars With Everyone, a mobile card game RPG available in Japan. It's by no means a "fighting" game in the traditional sense, but the idea of Capcom characters versus Capcom characters still stands.

Regardless of what sort of game "Fighters of Capcom" is, the trademark suggests it could appear on anything from consoles to smart phones. For more details (and possible hints), you can find the whole set of intent-to-use applications at the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

Cover and Solicitation for Mega Man #23

Another month, a new solicitation. Here's the latest scoop for Archie's Mega Man #23:

(W) Ian Flynn (A) Gary Martin & Various (CA) Matt Herms & Various

‘For the Bot Who Has Everything.’ Happy Birthday, Mega Man! The city celebrates their hero in style and Rock receives the recognition he deserves! What could ruin such a perfect day? How about a vengeful Dr. Wily and the mysterious Break Man?! Don’t miss this issue on the eve of the Sonic/Mega Man crossover!”

I got to say, I'm really digging that cover. Did you know it was originally conceptualized by Patrick Spaziante to be used for issue #8? Glad to see it being put to good use!

Issue #23 is due out in March, 2013.

New Rockman Holic Preview + Xover Bonus

For your listening pleasure, here's another "preview" track for the upcoming Rockman Holic album. I say "preview" because, well, it's actually the whole song, “Together As One,” an arrangement of the Wily stage theme from Mega Man 2. It's in English, too!

Sound Holic also announced the album will come with a special serial code for Rockman Xover. It's a Zero battle memory card!

Up Close And Personal With The Official “Rockman Parka”

Punk Drunkers' officially licensed Rockman Parka is now available in Japan. It's hip, it's cool, it's stylish. Oh, and it's expensive. At a whopping 14,000 Yen (roughly $179 US), you'll probably have a hard time scoring one of these babies. However, that shouldn't stop you from admiring some photos. Hit the break to see the hoodie in action... Rockbuster sleeve and all.

We Haven't Seen the Last of Mega Man On Consoles and Handhelds

Here's another juicy tidbit from Nintendo Power's interview with Capcom's Senior Vice President Christian Svensson:

Nintendo Power: What does the future hold for Mega Man?

Christian Svensson: I can say with certainty that you've not seen the last of the Blue Bomber on consoles and handhelds, and, with luck, we'll be celebrating his 50th anniversary, including all of the games you're going to enjoy over the next 25 years. That said, an issue we've had in the past has been talking about games and announcing them before we're certain they're going to come out, which unfortunately has lead to profound disappointment for many fans. So for now, I'm going to have to stay mum about any details.

Hey, I'm perfectly content with being patient... so long as the product is top-notch. That said, perhaps we'll be hearing some about these developments sometime over the course of the 25th anniversary celebration (which lasts throughout 2013). Keep those fingers and toes crossed!

For the full interview, grab Nintendo Power issue 284 from your local newsstand!

Have Another Rockman Xover Pre-Release Item

The latest issue of Dengeki Game App magazine (volume 6) contains a promotional Rockman Xover Vile Ride Armor card. Obtained via QR Code, this card can be used to reduce damage inflicted by a boss. Much like Famitsu App's exclusive promo card, you can't use it until you beat the game's tutorial.

It's worth mentioning this card comes from the same issue that said Xover would hit iOS by the end of October. As you've no doubt noticed, nothing's come of that. No one really knows if the game's been delayed or if Dengeki got the date wrong. One thing is certain though: the code for the card will expire on December 20th. Xover should hit iOS before (or around) then.

Now I know what some of you are thinking: the game's been cancelled. I don't believe that to be the case... but it seems like just about anything can happen these days. Whatever the result, I'll keep you posted.

Do You Want to Play Challenger from the Future in English?

With the Rockman EXE WS translation patch all wrapped up, it's time to look ahead to another possible translation: Rockman & Forte: Challenger from the Future.

An acquaintance of mine is considering giving this rather oddball platformer an English patch. However, interest must be gauged (yeah, we're pulling a Capcom). So if you want to play Challenger from the Future in English (it does have a plot!), simply drop a comment. Though it may not be the "best" Rockman game around, it's still mildly decent. At the very least you'll get a kick out the game's colorful cast of Robot Masters... like Dangan Man. He's literally a bullet.

That's the end of my spiel. Sound off in the comments!

Intuition! Rockman is Downright Zany

Oh man. I've been looking for footage of this one for a while. This, my friends, is Intuition! Rockman. Released exclusively in Japan in 2008, this mobile-phone game is obscure in every sense of the word.

In short, Intuition! Rockman is essentially WarioWare starring the Blue Bomber and friends; a collection of quirky mini-games wherein you perform strange tasks. The game is predominately controlled via motion. In other words, it only works on cell phones that have an accelerometer. Because of that, its install base was pretty small. It's virtually unknown in many fan circles.

Much like WarioWare, there's also a subtle overarching story that ties all these unusual mini-games together. The Mega Man Network writes, "The story of the game has Dr. Wily finishing his next latest invention which will assuredly win him the world. But as if on cue, Mega Man drops in to stop him. However, he proves to be no match for Wily’s machine, which is impervious to any of Mega Man’s attacks, though Wily himself is troubled that the machine doesn’t actually do anything. Roll comes in with a message from Dr. Light suggesting to shake the machine if attacks don’t work. Angered, Dr. Wily traps Roll in his machine to power it up even more."

Just how nutty are these mini-games, you ask? Oh gee, I dunno... how does guiding Fire Man to ski down a birthday cake sound? Yeah. Strange stuff. You'll see plenty more in the above 18-minute video. Enjoy!

Destructoid Previews Archie Mega Man #19

Archie’s Mega Man #19 is well on its way, and for those of you eager to have a quick sneak peek, you can head over to Destructoid for a delightful six-page preview. Tony Ponce has a nice summary of the events ahead:

" ...this story, Roll takes her girlfriends to the beach, but a sudden storm threatens a cruise liner drifting a little too close to shore. With Mega Man undergoing an upgrade to receive the slide ability -- Dr. Light's line, "I just don't understand why it stops working at modes nine and ten," is subtlety at its finest -- it's up to the gals and Light's newest "water rescue unit" to save the day."

Be sure to drop by Destructoid for the full preview. Issue #19 hits newsstands November 14th, subscribers any day now!

Capcom U.S Working to Get Mega Man 1-6 On 3DS Virtual Console

In an interview posted in the latest issue of Nintendo Power, Capcom's own Christian Svensson and community manager Brett Elston spoke a little about Mega Man on the Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console. More specifically, they assured fans that Capcom U.S are planning on getting all six of the original classic NES games (Mega Man 1-6) on the eShop. Eventually.

According to the interview, there have been some difficulties preventing a release. Neither Svensson nor Elston divulged the details, but they did confirm those issues are being fixed right now. With hope, we'll start getting these games on our end soon enough.

Japan is up to Rockman 5, and Europe finally got Mega Man 1 last week. Can't be much longer now!

Thanks to everyone who sent in the tip!

Rockman 5 Hits Japanese eShop Next Week

The title pretty much says it all, really. According to Nintendo Japan, Rockman 5 is slated to hit the Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console next week, November 15th for 500 Yen.

No word yet on the possibility of a North American/European release. Then again, we're still waiting for Mega Man 1 and Mega Man 2. And Mega Man 3... and Mega Man 4.

Thanks for the tip, RockX!

100,000 Strong Rocket is Ready for Launch

Over the summer, 100,000 Strong for Mega Man Legends 3/Get Me Off the Moon announced plans to build their very own rocket. No, it wasn't meant to literally rescue Mega Man from the surface of Elysium. It's a symbolic gesture.

Three-feet tall and teaming with color, the rocket would usher in the franchise's 25th anniversary and raise awareness for the revival of Mega Man Legends 3. And now, after months of hard work, the rocket is finally complete.

The launch is planned for December 8th, at the Hearne Municipal Airport in Hearne, Texas. If you can make it, awesome. The more support the better. But if you can't make it out, you'll be able to catch a recorded version online at a later date. More details on that option should trickle out in the very near future.

All in all, this should be a lot of fun. I mean, how often do we have these community-wide shindigs where you can chill with fellow fans? Look forward to it, folks.

Hit up 100,000 Strong for more details.

Thanks for the heads up, Skybane!

In Mega Man Neo, You Explode When You Die

Instead of the usual death explosion, Mega Man Voluntt, at life's end, would lay on the floor stiff as a board as the screen faded to black. Game Over.

That was death in Mega Man Legends 1 (and Legends 2). But in the game's primordial days, back when it was known as Mega Man Neo, Volnutt met a demise similar to his Classic and X counterparts: combusting into a fiery blaze. Newly unearthed footage from Neo's E3 1997 exhibit reveals this gruesome moment in plain detail (nine seconds in). Viewer discretion advised; it's not a pretty sight!

... alright, so maybe I'm exaggerating just a bit.

Still, it's a neat throwback. Why was it removed? Well, maybe it really was considered a bit gruesome. I mean look at it this way: Volnutt was considered the most "human" of Mega Men at the time. I don't think that would have sat well with some folks -- parents, primarily. You know how some can be.

Thanks to STFUandPlayTV and KeijiDragon for the video!

Mega Man: The Wily Wars Included in New Sega Genesis Handheld

If you're like me, you've been fairly vocal about a Mega Man: The Wily Wars re-release. It's a fun collection of the Blue Bomber's first three adventures + the "Wily Tower", an exclusive mini-game that introduced players to the rather obscure Genesis Unit characters. So as we continue to wait for the game to hit the Virtual Console (and other digital platforms), we can make do with the next best thing: the all-new "Sega Genesis Ultimate Portable Game Player."

For $59.99, this officially licensed handheld comes pre-loaded with 37 Sega games, 3 Capcom games (including The Wily Wars, Super Street Fighter II and one unspecified title) and 40 unannounced games. Moreover, the unit will include an SD Card slot for additional game downloads. According to Amazon, the unit is due out on November 13.

If all this sounds too good to be true, well, it probably is. Sonic Retro notes portable Genesis/Mega Drive units produced by At Games and Blaze in the past have suffered from a number of sound and graphical emulation errors. In other words, this new unit could see similar problems. I suppose we'll know for sure come November 13.

All in all, historic news. This will be the first time since the Sega Channel in 1995 you can legally purchase The Wily Wars in North America. It's no Virtual Console re-release but it will do. For now!

Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Mega Man and Proto Man

Everybody's favorite toy customizer Donald "Kodykoala" Kennedy is back with another Mega Man creation. This time the master of plastic has paid tribute to the toy that inspired Mega Man's nickname, the "Blue Bomber": Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots.

"I started this around the same time as the Hungry Hungry Koopas, but I couldn’t figure out a way to really make this pop," writes Kodykoala. "I was introduced to EL wire, and I knew it would work great for the ropes of the ring. This is a fully functional game, and works great."

You can find even more detailed shots on Kodykoala's Flickr page. However, looking at it can only tell you so much! Wouldn't you much rather own it?  Not one to horde his work all to himself, Kodykoala has announced a raffle to win the piece.

"This is going to be the last board game that I do for a while, so if you are interested in owning it, you can purchase a raffle ticket and enter to win this," he writes. "Tickets are $3 and there will be only 300 tickets available, so odds of winning are really good. Drawing will be December 1, and will be in the mail before Christmas. I can only guarantee delivery in the US before Christmas though (international shipping can be a little flaky). Item must be claimed within 30 days of the drawing, or else I will draw another name. Raffle is open to anyone in the world, and I will cover shipping. Tickets are available in My Store."

There's no way I'm passing this opportunity up. I mean, how cool would that look on your mantle? Click here to buy your ticket!

Better Keep An Ear Out for This 'Wreck-It Ralph' Mega Man Nod

No, it's nowhere near as significant as Dr. Wily's "planned" cameo, but it's a reference none the less.

Television Tropes' list of Wreck-It Ralph video game references notes "the sound effect that plays when Felix gets a pie is the same sound effect used when Mega Man gets an enemy ability from Mega Man 3 onwards." In case you need a reminder, the SFX sounds a bit like this.

So yeah, that's the only Mega Man reference. A little disappointing, sure, but the movie is still reportedly an entertaining flick, with or without the Blue Bomber (and Wily).

If you'd prefer to spoil all of the movie's video game references, head on over to TV Tropes for the full list! (thanks for the heads up, Tabby!)

No Current Plans for More Mega Man Kits, Says Kotobukiya

With four quality Mega Man model kits under their belt (Zero not pictured), many fans are eager for what's next from the fine folks at Kotobukiya. Unfortunately, however, they've got nothing new on the burner according to a Facebook post by a company representative:

"Currently we don't have any new Mega Man kits scheduled but we'll be making an announcement soon about another video game "character" model kit. Keep checking this page for the latest news."

Frankly, I'm a little surprised. With so much merchandise coming out over the next few months you'd think something new from Koto would be among the lot. And here I was hoping for a Bass kit (a D-Arts will do for now, though).

On the birght side, plans change all the time. Our keyword for today is "currently" so you never know what the future could hold.
