Capcom "Retro Station" Officially Revealed + Global Release Confirmed

Following a leaked retail listing in late November, Capcom have officially taken the wraps off of their arcade-style mini console, the Retro Station. An official website for the Retro Station recently went live and it includes a bevvy of new images, screenshots and details. See those here.

The most notable new bits of info here are confirmation of an eventual ENGLISH release and the unveiling of a set of accessories: a fight stick to play two-player games on one Retro Station screen and USB PVP dongles for wireless connections between two individual Retro Station consoles.

Residents in Japan can pre-order the console now via the official Retro Station online store and, very soon, Amazon Japan. Sales in other regions are reportedly "coming soon!"

For the uninitiated, the Capcom Retro Station comes pre-installed with ten Mega Man and Street Fighter games. Mega Man-wise, the offerings include Mega Man: The Power Battle, Mega Man 2: The Power Fighters, Mega Man X, Mega Man Soccer and Rockman & Forte. With the exception of Rockman & Forte, every Mega Man game listed here is playable in English. Rockman & Forte will be the original, untranslated Super Famicom version

The Retro Station is due in Japan in March, 2021 for 21,780 Yen. That's roughly $210 US. Ouch! Is the price for admission worth it for a few Mega Man games that were missing from the Legacy Collections? Your call!

Beloved Rockman DASH Artbook is Getting a Much-Needed Fan-Translation

"Rockman DASH : Capcom Official Creation Data Collection - Great Adventure Guide" is a mouthful of a title that belongs to the undisputed king of Mega Man Legends 1 art books. It's not only chock-full of rare concept art and unused designs, but insightful commentary from the game's staff, too. It's a real sacred tome, let me tell you.

Unfortunately, the book is long out-of-print and never received an official English release. But where Capcom and partners fail to deliver, fans are once again happy to pick up the slack! An extensive English fan-translation is, after all the years, finally underway! Read on for the details!

Two New Mega Man Manga and Music Album Announced

To commemorate the classic series' 33rd anniversary, Rockman Unity has announced three projects slated to launch in Spring 2021.

First, we have two brand-new manga. Rockman-chan is a humorous, parody manga starring an innocent Blue Bomber as he carries out the whims of Dr. Light. Dr. Light's missions for our hero, however, are anything but a cake walk.

The second manga is called Rockman-san. It follows the misadventures of a grown-up Mega Man as he deals with the tumultuous demands of an adult world.

Both manga will launch exclusively in Japan on Young Ace UP this coming Spring. English adaptations have not been announced. So... do look forward to our inevitable fan-translations.

The third announcement is a brand-new Capcom tribute album called Captune ONE. It will feature a new arranged pieces from the Mega Man series, such as Running Through The Cyber World” from Mega Man Battle Network, "Wily Stage 1" from MM2 and “Esperanto” from Mega Man Zero 4.

Rockman EXE Anime Officially Heads to YouTube. In Japan. For a Limited Time.

Here's a pleasant surprise that comes with some caveats. Coro Coro Comics' just dropped the first 56 episodes of the Rockman EXE anime on YouTube for free!..

... but as you may have already deduced, these episodes are not only region-locked but available for a limited time. Folks living in Japan can stream the show until January 14th, 2021. After that, they're gone! You'll need to resort to a VPN to watch if you live outside Japan.

That's all there is to report on this front for now. It's always heartening to see the EXE anime return in some capacity -- reruns, re-releases, etc. And while it will only be available to watch for a month, I'm hopefully it will attract a whole new audience.

Long live EXE!

Iris "Soul Eraser" Skin Coming to Rockman X DiVE Next Week

The Rockman X DiVE development team has announced via social media that the game will receive a new skin after the maintenance period next Wednesday.

The skin is a recolor of Iris' design from the Game Boy Color game Rockman X2: Soul Eraser or as we know it in the west, Mega Man Xtreme 2. No price has been announced but judging by how much Iron Maiden Cinnamon cost, we are probably looking at another 1200 EM skin.

Old Bandai Toy Fair Tape Shows Off Unreleased Ruby-Spears Mega Man Toys

Say what you will about the goofy Ruby-Spears Mega Man cartoon, but its complementary toyline from Bandai was the best. Those action figures are fondly remembered - if not more so - than the animated series itself.

The toyline is also remembered for a number of cancelled and unreleased items, too. There was the giant 8-inch "Talking Mega Man", vehicles from season 2, and a trio of figures based on different suits that Mega Man wore throughout the show. Images of some of these toys have bubbled up over the years... but to date, we don't know anyone that actually owns them in any capacity. Samples, prototypes - nothing.

More recently, however, a video from Bandai's 1995 Toy Fair offerings has come to light that proudly displays TWO cancelled toys: the 8-inch talking Mega Man and a previously unknown, unannounced playset. You can see them in action in the video above (42:07). You gotta love the host's very, uh, colorful take on "PlAsMa PoWerrrr..."

I miss everything about this show. Sigh...

Capcom Now Seeking *English* Partners for Mega Man Battle Network's 20th Anniversary

This past May, Capcom Japan began recruiting licensing partners to development commemorative products for Mega Man Battle Network's 20th anniversary. And now, six months later, the house that built the blue bomber are extending their efforts to English-based companies.

No More 8-Bit Mega Man Figures, Says Jakks Pacific

"8-bit Mega Man burnout" has been a thing for a little while now and it looks like it's finally caught up with one brand partner. Jakks Pacific, who currently hold the master Mega Man toy license in the states, has announced that their 8-bit line of Mega Man toys is no more.

Here's what Jakks Pacific's own Craig Drobis had to say: (via Toy Hype USA)

"I am a personal fan of our 8 bit lines, mostly because that is how the games looked when I first played them.  And the Mega Man two packs were among my favorite executions we have made.  We did find that people were more interested in the modern/3D versions of the characters and that is why we moved on to the Mega Man 11 figures.

Unfortunately, there won’t be any more Mega Man 8 bit figures being developed and I think in general we will use save that execution of figures for timely introductions around anniversaries, etc. where we can present them in a special fashion.
"

Although their won't be any more 8-bit toys, it's good to know that fans have responded well to the more "modern" iterations of the character. Surely this will point Jakks in the right direction for future lines. We may yet have more "modern" Mega Man figures!

Were you a fan of the 8-bit line? How do you feel about all this?

Ken Spears, Co-Creator of Mega Man Ruby-Spears Cartoon, Has Died

It was only this past August that we said goodby to Joe Ruby. Today we learned that his partner and dear friend, Ken Spears, has passed away. He was 82-years old.

Alongside Joe Ruby, Ken Spears co-created no only Scooby-Doo! but the much-adored Mega Man animated series from the early nineties. Ken Spears worked closely with Capcom to develop the show, which ultimately aired in the U.S in 1994. Ken Spears would go on to direct numerous episodes during the show's two season run.

“Ken will forever be remembered for his wit, his story-telling, his loyalty to family, and his strong work ethic,” said Ken Spears' son, Kevin Spears. "Ken has been a role model for us throughout his life and he will continue to live on in our hearts.”

Cheesy as it was, I absolute adore the Ruby-Spears cartoon. And I have both Ken and Joe to thank. Rest well, king.

Announced today via social media, the popular "X Ver.Ke" figure designed by Keisuke Mizuno for TruForce Collectibles will be available in Rockman X DiVE starting next week on November 11th as a new X skin.

As you can see in the image above, the development team changed the name to "X M.K.Ver.". They didn't reveal what method will be required to obtain it, but the last few skins were only available to purchase from the in-game store with EM (not paid).

This kind of armor design lends itself to an easy recolor. Will we see a "X-Boost" or "X-Kai" version too sometime?

The Story of Mega Man on DOS - The Gaming Historian

Love 'em or hate 'em, the DOS Mega Man games are very much an important, if not, obscure part of the franchise's storied history. And if you've been hankering to learn more about the Mega Man and Mega Man 3 on DOS, a brand-new video by The Gaming Historian has you covered.

"The Story of Mega Man on DOS" is a complete, 22-minute history lesson on DOS Mega Man and Mega Man 3. The video even includes a guest appearance the games' sole developer, Stephen Rozner. Speaking with the Gaming Historian through Zoom, Rozner drops a wealth of behind-the-scenes knowledge that - at least for me - greatly enhance my appreciation for the DOS games.

Sit back, grab some Halloween candy and give it a watch!
