13 Companies Stand In Our Way Of Getting 'Tatsunoko vs. Capcom'

I'm excited about Tatsunoko vs. Capcom. It seems like a blast to play. Sure, I could always import it and play it on the Hombrew Channel, but I'd much rather have a true blue localization. That said, Capcom has time and time again expressed difficulties in bringing the title outside of Japan, citing a series of sticky licensing problems with Tatsunoko properties. Yesterday, in an interview with Joystiq, Seth Killian once again brought to light the problems of a TvC localzaition:

"It's a lot of 'dance with the lawyers' on that one," explained Killian. "The rights holders for Tatsunoko in Japan are one company, but in the U.S. it's ... 13 companies -- and some are very attentive and some are not."

A very sticky situation indeed. In the words of Joystiq, "if you've been holding your breath for this one, you might want to consider coming up for air."

  1. I would give a rats ass if they plan to port it to 360 and PS3 if they localize it....

  2. why 13 companies? and anyway, surely they would consider a localised version of the game as publicity for them (or atleast just Tatsunoko)

  3. That's why USA is terrible. Japan is the best in the world! They have everything. Good thing I have homebrew channel and this backup game to play so I am fine with it however no translation. That's problem but I can live with it anyway.

  5. 13 companies? Which ones? I hope they don't need to remove some characters in the USA release, it would be a good chance to increase the popularity of the company and the characters (I've seen most of the Tatsunoko characters for the 1st time after seeing this game).

  6. Surely since Tatsunoko owns the original property rights they can use some of their legal weight to convince the US licensors to hop on board?

I think it'll come over here.

  7. It's not the US's fault. It's because over there, those characters belong to fewer or the same companies whereas over here there are a ton of companies which have the rights to the characters. Maybe if they got together and organized things a bit better, like saying, okay Company A in the USA will now be in charge of localizing and translating all things from Company B in Japan. Basically set up a mirror for companies between the US and Japan. Then any contracts made in Japan could be said to be binding in the US as well. So when they get together and make a game like this, then they don't have to renegotiate the contracts with companies in the US as well.

No, it will not come here. It wont and never will. You will see.
