Funimation Acquires Ruby Spears MM Rights?

Little bit of unconfirmed news for you: according to PRC reader Sylar, Funimation Entertainment announced at Anime Boston today that it has acquired the distribution rights to the Ruby Spears Mega Man cartoon, formerly held by ADV Films. The license entitles Funimation to release the show online and possibly on DVD.

More news as it comes in.

  1. I hope this is true. Funimation would probably make a collectors' set with bonus content.

  2. Perhaps they might even continue the show in some way shape or form? All those unreleased ideas...yes. I heard of an episode that was made but never released, a "Lost Episode". Wouldnt that be some bonus content! I would have to buy a DVD set if FUNimation put one out because the quality of ADV's discs are so sensitive and terrible. One little scuff or scratch and its done. Great news indeed, though!

  3. Very interesting; hope it becomes true. If it goes through, it could also mean that GaiaOnline will be able to show it on their website, since they do sponsors with them every so often. If that happens, then there's a very good chance they'll give away a promotional item from the series.

  4. Why do we need ANOTHER rerelease? They've already released it a billion times. And to be honest, the cartoon's really not that good. :P

I'd almost rather they acquired the rights to make a new one. But then, they'd probably botch it, wouldn't they? And they just want an easy buck, nothing that requires work.

  5. I hope Funimation releases the 90s Mega Man cartoon show remastered on Bluray. It would almost be like owning the animation cells for the show.

  7. Man, they better not release something special with the re-releases. Not that I don't want the specials, but I already got the original DVD releases.

  8. Maybe they'll Re-dub it to make it more watchable.
