Place Your Bets!

Now, don't hold your breath but, the possibility of Coro Coro Comics revealing the identity of the mystery Rockman game in the March issue (coming Feb. 14th or sooner) is very probable. With the contest winner being revealed in the May issue, something has to fill the void between now and then; the announcement.

That said, there are so many possibilities for Rockman's newest title. Many circles are leaning towards the revival of an inactive series such as X or EXE, whilst others believe we'll see a new series or even a crossover of sorts. Care to make a little wager?

  1. Anything X or ZX, but if it's a new Rockman series then that'd be interesting to see how it goes.

  2. I'm leaning towards a new series or "Scramble Battle." If it is a new series, I doubt it'll be a continuation of the EXE/SSR story. Capcom's done an Internet world and a radio wave world - what other type of network do we have? Plus, SSR was already a crossover of sorts, since the Internet and Navis still existed. I don't know how the boss contest fits with "Scramble Battle," though (or whatever they'd call it), unless they put some kind of boss at the end of an adventure mode or something. Well, that's my guess. We'll see soon enough.

  3. It's not a guess as much as it is a hope... I'd like to see EXE come back, if only at least in an SSR crossover.

But I'm fine with any Rockman I guess. If they make yet another new one, they'd better do it right. If we're going to keep saturating the series with new incarnations, they should at least be worth it. :)

  4. I hope it's anything but a new series.

My money is on a new series.

  5. a new series or even a new exe or X game would be perfect!
I could use a little change or a revival orf my two favorite series. (or at least one of them)

  6. ...what happened to zero and legends?

I don't see a new Zero happening, it had a definitive end....though same can be said for EXE, but Zero has less leverage story wise to squeeze in a sequel.

DASH 3 would most likely be announced on an international scale (such as E3) and not through the pages of Coro Coro.

  8. Well, Zero, .EXE, and RnR are officially dead, and Classic recently saw a release. That leaves X, Legends, and something new.

Ghoston doesn't fit the themes of the former two, unless they're breaking from tradition. It's most likely a new series by that logic (unless it's Scramble Battle), perhaps one that's been in development hell.

  9. @Protodude:
yeah, i guess, my favouite would still be a new X and hopefully a return of the only bald guy i like, besides my dad (obviously Sigma)

  10. Could be a brand new series, but isn't kinda early to have a new franchise out? i mean we just had StarForce(RnR) out recently, too soon I'd say. My pocket full of change would bet on X, Legends, a crossover series or a new one (which i think is most likely).

  11. Ghoston looks like EXE-ish, but the winner of contest could be something waaaay different. Who knows?

Looking at the promotion, I bet on the scramble battle, especially that EXE-SSR crossover. If they were going to announce DASH3 or X9, Capcom would.

  12. Isn't that "Shin Rockman" for Nintendo DS?

  13. @Radix: If you look at it that way, all the series could technically be called dead if they haven't announced a sequel for it. People surely thought Megaman 8 was going to be the last one after they didn't announce a sequel for such a long time. RnR was never concluded officially and if I remember correctly the Zero series could have been continued had it been financially wise. EXE may have given us a glimpse of the future, but that by no means concludes it. (Though it is compelling evidence to suggest current plans are to not continue it. Plans change though.) Legends and X would be considered dead if you were going by the same judgment as the RnR and zero series.

    Just a thought. :)

Also, @Anon2: You never know. :) They beat the robot idea to death too. :P

  14. I'm gonna guess X, DASH, or new series/crossover.

  15. My money is, unfortunately, on a new series. I wish Capcom would stop making new series and give some closure on the old ones first... I'm still hoping for another X, ZX, or Legends. X, because it was my first and favorite series; Legends because a lot of us want Legends 3; and ZX, because it barely scratched the surface of its potential before it died. =(

  16. I could see Ghoston fitting legends... but in all honestly I really think we're overthinking this here. :P Ghoston most resembles an SSR boss to me, and it's the only series that's still alive. (Contrary to what seems to be popular belief, nobody ever said it was concluded officially. Quite the opposite in fact) It makes logical sense that it's just a contest for the next SSR game.

In the past we all assumed the new contest was for EXE games because they either said so or because the context and examples were _____man.exe. Now we're just getting confused because there's nothing really to categorize the MM series that Ghoston goes into.

  17. I agree with the notion that we'll probably see something new, and probably will be another "Hobby-Style" Rockman, at that. (Not trying to be a "hater", but I believe that's the "sub-genre" that EXE/Ryuusei go by.)

Of course, if they REALLY want to make my day? Give me another 2D-platformer. Hell, I'll even be willing to give another Hobby-style another try, if it basically combined 2D, Rockman-style platformer gameplay, with something that could be akin to a "Castlevania: SOTN" type of mechanics for collecting and customization.

  18. I hope it might be a continuation of ZX, or a series that takes place after it, hopefully making the gap to Legends/DASH smaller.

  19. I would love to see DASH 3 but chances are its gonna be an EXE seems that would make them earn alot more money.
Yet they still might go with the crossover which seems great as well.

  20. If it's EXE (which I doubt), it'll be like an alternate dimension or something. O_o I'd never think that EXE would come back, no matter how much I hoped for it.

Probably another RnR. I agree with one of you anon's that we're looking too much into it.

  22. I think the contest is to see what the fans want next. After all didn't the contest page say design a boss that is from your preference of Rockman game?

    ReplyDelete

It's a bit confusing: some translations seem to indicate you design a boss and write your preferred Rockman game on the back of the paper--but the design doesn't necessarily need to correspond with your preference.

However, I've spoken with a few individuals believe the design MUST correspond with the preference.

    Meh.

  24. Okay, I just want to say that even though EXE could of ended with 6, specially with the glimpse of the future, that doesn't stop them from making Patch the new main char and just continue it from there. I'd love to see a new EXE,X, or ZX but I'm actually gonna have to say SSR. It just seems to indicate that. But who knows eh?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Ah, if they make a new EXE, they HAVE to rename Patch. That is about the dumbest translated name I've ever heard. >_O Why not just keep "Raito"?

    That name could kill any new EXE game, so I hope they take that into consideration. ;__;

  26. im going for the question mark. i wanna see what they're gonna whip up next.

  27. A new series.. But the best I can bet is a sprite I make.. :/

Don't you get the name though? Think about it, Lan, Hub, Patch. They're all computer terms, it makes sense to keep it how it is. And honestly, I like the name.

  29. if anyone official has been to www.megamanx9.com, then my bets would be on a new x game.

its probably a new series, but x9 or legends 3 would be great.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Uh yeah, I got the name. :P The name scheme was one of the only weird things about EXE I didn't like. Patch just sounds... awful. O_o :P

I wish they'd just keep the Japanese names. I mean, come on.

    Saito > "Hub"
    Netto > "Lan"

But that's just my opinion. :D If they make another EXE, they can name him whatever they like. XD

  31. I'm mostly looking forward to a continuation of the ZX series. I really, REALLY hope that's what it is.

    ReplyDelete
  32. With regards to the Anon who prefers the EXE JP names... that might be your preference, but Capcom keeping all Japanese names would alienate US players. With all due respect, you're in the minority here.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I know that. I just wish they had chosen better names.

I hate the phrase "with all due respect". It sounds... mocking.
