More OSS Screens - Battle Field, Mini Game Feature Revealed

Japanese online store Rakuten has recently opened up a pre-order page for Rockman EXE Operate Shooting Star. Included on the page are new screen shots, one of which being our first look at the battlefield:

Based on the top right screen shot, battles appear as if they will go unchanged from their appearance in the original game (comparison pic). The custom screen is slightly different from the original with chip selection being cut down to two rows as opposed to three. This was done to accommodate the addition of letter codes below each chip icon; a standard practice since EXE 2 and onwards.

The other new image (bottom left) depicts Rockman.EXE in the school computer; new mugshot present.

On a completely different note, Rakuten's product description mentions something about the inclusion of mini-games. There's supposedly a six player multiplayer mini game taking place in the "Rockman Star Colosseum." I suppose we'll be hearing more about that soon...

  1. that just looks like the exe1 battle field, they are probably just using it for reference.

I would be hugely disapointed if this were it, was hoping for 3D or at least 2.5D side screen battle, ya'know?

  2. I for one am glad they are keeping the battle system just like it was in the GBA MMBN series. I may just purchase it now because of that reason. If it was 2.5d or 3d I would have passed this up.

  3. On close inspection, the map showed the player was using EXE.
This looks to support my theory of two battle systems, activating depending on Rockman.

  4. Does Capcom realize what the meaning of a "REMAKE" is?

    MMPU and MHX says hi.

  6. The custom screen is different. This is a definite sign of a beta. The screen improved because the chip codes show up. But it looks like the wimpy useless BN1 chips are returning too. And I like the new Megaman EXE mugshot. Beats the hell out of the blue-eyed, cross-eyed, white-mouthed Megaman mugshot they blindly used for the first 3 games.

  7. Is it me, or is there some new type of selection you could pick if you wanted? Look at the end on the Custom Menu, where the Battle Chip Icons go. Instead of 5, there's another one that doesn't look like the others. =o

They have referred to it as a port on several occasions. Although I don't think it fits the description of a port either.

  9. You mean I can't have 15 chips at once anymore? Well screw this game.

  10. I hope the game remains 2D for the most part. Really can't stand 3D crap. I'd be nice to be playing with the old battle system, just with some new modifications, that's always a plus.

  11. The chip images are still in the same proportions. I guess this means they'll reuse all the super-old chip images too.

  12. Yes!! The battle is from Exe serie and not Star Force, i hate star force, this easy game can't be a Rockman game!

  13. ewwww i hate those battle system NOOOOOOO

  14. @Steven C.

You actually thought Capcom would put effort into this project? Have they ever really put much effort into these games for the past several years?

  15. Well, this is both reassuring and disappointing at the same time. I looove the EXE battle system best, but I was hoping they'd try a sideview 3D battle or something. I guess Operate Shooting Star just means you get to play as Ryusei's Rockman in the traditional battle style... and you know I think I like that. It's not edgy so it won't likely suck. I'd have liked something new, but it is the mini revival of a tired series. It would be kind of silly to risk making a game that could flop. It's a given that it will have only modest sales since it's not much new, but I think that's what they were aiming for from the beginning.

I am extremely sad to see the return of the ADD button though. >_> Since certain in-battle aspects such as the ADD button had no real bearing on the storyline, you'd think they'd change them. Put the EXE6 battle system in there minus the beast out. :P Are they going back to the old EXE battle sprites too? Ah, time will tell.

Oh well, still excited as a tornado in a trailer park. I should have known it wouldn't be the epic reimagining we all wanted, but the idea was nice while it lasted and we all get to see smexy Ryusei Rockman along with old pal EXE Rockman battle viruses in the best way possible. :)

  16. And I'm expecting at least a small anime-ish commercial a la EXE 3 for the game. That'll be neat.

  17. Hold on here.

    "Now printing"

So they're manufacturing the games already? Hmm... that would rule out tweakage of nasty leftovers from the unrefined EXE1. It's far too soon if it's a November release date though. O_o

  18. @Mike: Yes they have. Otherwise EXE probably wouldn't be my favorite Rockman series.

  19. Excellent. Hopefully it stays to the horizontal battle system. It makes the most sense and requires plenty more reflexes and strategy.

  20. Anyone finding it weird that the second screen is absent in the battle screen? I mean I know it is only showing one screen, but the chip selection is already there. Wonder what the bottom screen is used for in battle?

    ReplyDelete
  21. ''Rockman Star Colosseum'' is probably just the same thing from SF2. I still wonder if you can use both megamans in multiplayer.

    ReplyDelete
  22. @Anon 2: Circumstantial evidence. It doesn't support that idea exclusively.

@Nigoli: Looks like a recov chip to me. O_o

@Anon10: That screenshot does show two screens. (You can see they are connected as is typical with DS screenshots and is parallel to the connected screenshot next to it.) It's showing the map on the bottom.

I'm finding it weird that the HP above the Mettaurs is positioned strangely. O_o I don't normally over-analyze tiny screenshots but that jumped out at me.

I'm almost positive there's still a big piece of the puzzle we're missing here. A surprise, if you will. (Still hoping for at least an EXE noise, since a Ryusei soul is out of the question. But noise changes don't show a link like souls do. :\)

  23. I'm so tickled by all the SSR and EXE fans who, although obviously disillusioned by the paltry offer by Capcom, continue to find some crazy measure of hope to cling to. Capcom is boning you guys. Deal.

    ReplyDelete
  24. @C

Jesus, all you ever do is troll.

    ReplyDelete
  25. @C: lol at least we have a game to hope will be good. Capcom does the same to every Rockman series, so I think you're the one disillusioned.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I would highly doubt that they would have two battle systems. It would be a mess for online or even local battles. Maybe your friend likes the SSR playstyle more than the EXE playstyle or vice versa. I do hope there is both though, but we must be realistic about it.

    ReplyDelete
  27. They wouldn't do that. It's just 2D battle. If they have both then I'll be stunned. But I've already eaten my DS and I'd like to keep my Wii, so...

    And @Anon6: Seriously? >_>

    ReplyDelete
  28. Anon 11 came up with a good point about there not being souls, but what if they came up with something called "Time Warps"?
Time Warps could allow both Rockmen to get a form from either game series, Blues Warp would be SS Rockman and Harp Warp could be for Rockman.EXE. Ya know something like that? I gotta say I hope Solo appear trying to find out info about Mu, maybe Wily has something from Mu?

    ReplyDelete
  29. That's preposterous, really. Waaay too far fetched. Make a crossover form and randomly call it "time warps?" Yea... All these ideas I've been hearing are pretty ridiculous.

    ReplyDelete
  30. If there were going to be "forms" of any sort, I think the Rakuten product description would have made mention of it somewhere. It didn't.

    ReplyDelete
  31. No trolling guys, just expressing an opinion. Capcom is obviously putting zero effort into this one, slapping together a hodge podge of sprites, many of them a decade old, and calling it a present for the fans. That's not a present, that's an insult. A few re-used sprites in a Megaman game is fine but this is beyond the pale of Capcoms normal laziness. This kind of thing is why the Megaman franchise has so eroded over the years.

  32. I hate to say it but I agree with C.
Capcom made it sound as if they've invented hot water with this game. So far it looks like a quick cash in without having to do much work.
I really hope to be proven wrong but I doubt it.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I don't hate to say that I agree with C. It is a big copout.

But I'll buy it all the same. :P Capcom does this stuff because they know we're suckers for it. Or at least I am. I'm a bit mad at them for not making a full remake.

    ReplyDelete
  34. "@Nigoli: Looks like a recov chip to me. O_o"

No, he's talking about the area where your selected battlechips go to. The vertical part.

He's right, there is something odd there. There's the regular five slots, but right under there (and right above the OK button) is a sixth slot. What in the world is that supposed to be..? Not to mention the wonky HP placement.

Although, MegaRockEXE is probably right in this being a beta screen, in which we would be over-analyzing this by a ton.

Oh, and C, thanks for saying all of these things. I'm saving them all and I'll be sure to C/P them all as soon as a X game is announced. Hehehehe~ *is shot, stabbed, and murdered*

    ReplyDelete
  35. C is right, but he forgets that the entire Megaman franchise is Capcom 'boning' us with sequels with identical graphics and gameplay, so it's redundant to even bring it up. I will admit this seems to go beyond ZX Advent in terms of laziness, though.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Perhaps it's a "switch Rockmans" button. :P

    ReplyDelete
  37. I love the exe series, but I agree with everyone saying that there trying to make more money and not putting any effort what so ever. Still i'm going to buy when it comes out. :)

    ReplyDelete
  38. Can anyone make out the symbol on the 6th chip on the vertical chip custom? To me it looks like Rockman's symbol. Do you have a bigger picture protodude?

    ReplyDelete
  39. "You actually thought Capcom would put effort into this project? Have they ever really put much effort into these games for the past several years?"

    LOL

Look at Street Fighter II. It latest remake is Street Fighter IV.

Capcom + effort = died long ago.
