Coro Coro Report - Operate Shooting Star Is Likely A Remake

This month's issue of Coro Coro Comics came with a tiny teaser for next issue's coverage on Operate Shooting Star:

According to the teaser (pictured), the "legendary EXE 1 will be appearing on the DS this winter as a fusion of cards and action RPG." Make of that what you will.

Right about now, it's starting to seem a lot more likely than it seems not likely that OSS is a remake. Again, more details on OSS are expected to coincide with next month's Coro Coro. Stay tuned.

Thanks to the Mega Man Network for the heads up.

  1. Lol, I was just looking through that site awhile ago. Fusion of cards? Still seems possible to have a crossover to me.

If this is EXE1 with a not-thought-out 3D battle system tacked on, I'll be severely disappointed. (But will get it anyway) You bother to make another EXE game like a lot of us wanted and it's just that?

However, if it's truly a remake from the ground up, with new sprites, redone dialogue and scenarios, and plenty of bonus content with maybe an RnR storyline element as a sidestory, I think it could be definitely done well. They'd just better actually do it well.

Still think I'd rather have completely new, rather than semi-new.

We shall see. Do your best Capcom!

  2. If it's a remake it will be a full-fledged remake. There's no way they'd go back to the original net where it all looked the same and you got lost in a jiffy. As everyone else is saying, nothing to do but wait!

  3. This is Anon1 adding on a thought.

I heard something about "EXE Star" and "EXE OS" versions. Dunno if this is mentioned anywhere or if it's someone playing a joke but doesn't it lend to the idea of a crossover?

EXE Star for the Ryusei perspective, EXE OS for the EXE?

    Interesting.

  4. @Anonymous #2: 'Now way they'd go back to the original where it all looked the same...'

Yeah, cause Capcom is legendary for their strict ban on re-using graphics and artwork.

On the plus side, if history is any sign, there will only be one of these 'operate' games. No Megaman series has had more than one updated game in the last decade. This will probably join the ranks of Maverick Hunter X and Megaman Powered up.

  5. Hmm...EXE with what EXE5DS was supposed to have? Interesting... I for one look forward to it. EXE with SSR's battle style would be quite fun.

  6. All in all, I love the idea of a remake, solely for the purpose of squaring off against the iconic supervirus again, the LifeVirus.

If it's in 3D glory, that's gonna make it more awesome than Andromeda. XD

  7. It must be more than a remake of BN1 now. And with the new innovative features that SF3 had, this has a lot of updating to do.

  8. Again! Stop being so picky! You should all be happy with anything Capcom is dishing out. Would you rather have this? or nothing at all? Remake or crossover, it's going to be great!

  9. @ C

The reason there was only one Power up and Maverick Hunter X was because they did really bad.

  10. Hopefully its a remake. Bringing back and doing some justice to something that was fresh and unique, and reinventing it. If it is a remake, hopefully it is done well, like MHX and PU was.

They almost have to redo the internet out of necessity because the sequels had easier-to-navigate internets, going back would be stupid. It has nothing to do with the graphic laziness they have.

@Anon5: 1 person expressed disappointment. :P I think everyone else IS ok with it...

  12. I'd rather have nothing at all, because then they'd have more time to focus on non-EXE style games.

    ...

    OH. Whatever. zzzZZZ

  14. Well, I take that back, I guess I shouldn't complain because I have no right to say what Megaman should be. Sorry EXE lovers :) Heaven forbid someone years ago had told Inafune that Megaman 1 was crap and they needed to stick to games more like Mario Bros.

You can't be serious, right? This is Capcom. What makes you think they would rather give nothing at all? This franchise has and is being whored out at every possible opportunity. Don't be so quick to delegate Capcom as generous.

  16. Either way I'll get the game... If they are going to remake it, why couldn't they put like the entire series on it. For the games that had more than one version, they could make it so that you can get everything in one version. Then again, in the amount of time left between now and when the game is supposed to be released, I would highly doubt that they would put all 6 EXE games into the remake, if it is one.

  17. Dark Messiah must have been speculating about Shooting Star Rockman Operate EXE along with the "factions" EXE OS and EXE Star. I thought he posted a TBA release date too. Huh. Oh well. I would much prefer one version anyway.

  18. EXE 1 always seemed like the least polished of the main EXE series. Maybe a remake isn't such a bad thing!

  19. Hmm....Two versions,one a remake another a crossover?I can't wait for this!

  20. I think it's a remake with crossover sidequests like Django in BN4-6 and the MegaMan.EXE cameo in Star Force.

  21. Top-left: ''New *japanese text* Wii'' .. Wii connectivity?

  22. @Roy L.: Talking about a different game I believe.

Probably wrong though, could be some cool connectivity. Has anyone fully translated the page yet?

  23. The September CoroCoro should be coming in less than a week, right Protodude? Wow, that month wasn't as insufferably long as I thought.

    ReplyDelete
  24. yup, the Sept. issue ships on August 11. However, they have been known to leak out a few days earlier, so we might here some news,at the earliest, by this weekend

  25. Sweet. :D I'm glad you get notifications on comments.

Was there not a song called "Anticipation?" If there is I'm singing it at this moment. I'm trying not to get my hopes up too much, since I have a feeling it's not going to be what we're all expecting, but I'll be happy with anything I think. :)
