Udon Teasing 'Big' Mega Man Project (Update)

"Big" as in all caps BIG. Our friend Matt Moylan wanted me to pass this teaser along for Udon Entertainment's "biggest Mega Man project yet." As you can see (below), the first of five images features Mega Man Volnutt, stricken with a bit of a 'bad ass' expression.

Update 12/6 - fifth and final image: Classic Mega Man

Udon will be posting a new teaser image ever day until the project is announced on the official Udon blog. All shall be revealed Wednesday, December 8th!

My two cents? Take a look at the art style; reeks of that Udon feel. I say we're looking at an Udon original Mega Man comic.... Legends related, perhaps.  Never mind!

All aboard the speculation train!

  1. Hmm, I wonder what it could be. :)

All I'll say is, you guys will love it and it's bigger in scope than what you're probably thinking right now, Protodude...

  2. A rendition of Mega Man Volnutt that not only dares to be without a goofy smile or embarrassed about every girl in his vicinity wanting to neck? Moreover the guy has his eyes narrowed? As if this Mega Man is capable of harboring ill will toward something? This is a major, confusing, and revolutionary development.

    "YES! YES!"

  5. I'm guessing it's gonna be a Megaman Legends comic series.

  6. The Mega Man Robot Master Field Guide?

They will translate the Rockman DASH 2 4 Koma manga?

Mega Man Legends Official Complete Works?

A official translation of ALL the Rockman books here:
    http://kobun20.interordi.com/the-source/

A comic featuring Konro Man or the Bad Box Art Mega Man!?

They will give MML3, MVC3, a DSi and a PS3 as gift for 10000000 people that buy any of the Official Complete Works books in a set time?

    Something else?

  7. @alilatias: That's what I thought. They'll show a new Megaman each day.

    ReplyDelete
  8. So on board if it's a crossover.

    ReplyDelete
  9. A capcom crossover series, With all the megamans teaming u- owait MMU.

... Still though, i'm leaning towards a crossover, But at the same time, I'm not. By "a crossover" i mean not anything involving a crossover. Maybe just an official works or something.

    ReplyDelete
  10. I know this might be a rather silly preference when confronted with the usually exciting notion of a franchise-wide crossover. But I would really like the Legends series to get a print serial sometime before the cast co-stars in a crossover comic.

Maybe I'm just delusional here. But the announcement of Legends 3 lead me to think the series would stop existing exclusively in the graces of crossovers.

  11. The hair looks like Trigger, but the blue part looks more like the Giro Express uniform from ZX... I mean, Rock's armor has had grey on that part of his arm since Legends 2's armor. Unless it somehow involves Legends 1.

Legends makes sense, but I still think that it looks more like Vent's arm... And consider, Vent and Trigger have very similar hair styles. and the same eye color.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Flame I'm confused as to what part of Megaman's arm you think we're looking at. If you mean his shoulder I'm fairly sure you've got the in-game color scheme reversed. Even then; his shoulder decal was a circle; not a strip. But either way, I'm fairly sure no mass of fans would call discontinuity if one particular color scheme or armor design was used in a story that happened at some point removed from that.

But all that aside; I'm fairly sure what we're seeing there is Volnutt's helmet. Being held in his hands out of frame. The shading around the cyan stripe shows it's not just a color pattern but it actually protrudes from the blue surface. It even has a tiered circular cut off near the top, looking mightily like his helmet's earpiece. What's more the deeper blue is continued on both sides of the cyan protrusion. That doesn't match Vent's upper arm decal that looks like rolled up sleeves.

  13. My grandma, what a large forehead you have...

    ReplyDelete
  14. My bet is also on crossover series, with a new Megaman image each day, as said.

Still hoping for an original Legends series though.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I'm surprised no one has noted that blue thing looks like the top of Megaman's head.

    ReplyDelete
  16. all the megamen in one comic one word team up!

    ReplyDelete
  17. I hope it's just a comic tie in. If Legends gets it's own ongoing series and X, Zero or Classic doesn't I will spit tacks.

(Yes, I'm aware of the Archie Megaman)

    ReplyDelete
  18. @T-Cat: Beat Needle Man IRL, did you? Nice.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I just hope it isn't "we're doing art for Legends 3!", after the garbage they put in Tatsunoko vs. Capcom for it's endings, that is the ONE THING that would totally kill all hope I have for the game.

    ReplyDelete
  20. When did Megaman Legends suddenly become cleansed of it's leprosy?

I suppose using X, Battle Network, Zero and ZX to distract fans from the regular Megaman have all run their courses, so they had to dust off the Legends series lest a MegaMan 11 be demanded by the fans.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Well, if an original comic isn't big...an original animation?! Naah...

    Mega Man Legends 1 & 2 HD Remix!...but those games are 3D...

    ReplyDelete
  22. Oh look the second image is a black hand with a pointed wrist ornament. A sharp triangular beam saber held upright, with a seemingly triangular blue convex surface peaking from forehead height at the edge of the frame.

Experts will be called in to review the symbolism and decode its meaning.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Second picture is already online:

    ReplyDelete
  24. So yea, looks like we were right. Zero's Z-saber is up on the blog now.

    So predictable. So awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Well, today's image looks to be Zero's sword from the MMZ series. Crossover confirmed?

    ReplyDelete
  26. Image 2.

    THE Z SABER.

    HELL YES.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Todays was MMZ Zero holding his saber. Im guessing just a collection book.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Image #2 is up.

  29. I give up. Theres too much zero. Every. Single. THING. Just HAS to be zero. I used to like zero, But now hes just overdone. I'm starting to lose hope in the Megaman series.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Pretty sure it's one of their Tribute books now :D

    ReplyDelete
  31. Hel-lo, mah darling Z-Sabre! ;D

    ReplyDelete
  32. @Megafan:

Heh, I lost faith in the series for a while now. Mostly because of the fanbase, but whateve's.

$50 says EXE, ZX and SSR will be absent from this "big project". >_>

    ReplyDelete
  33. Probably too early to be talking about this, but I'm now guessing this is a crossover project of sorts for the Robotics timeline only.

If that's the case, my interest in this has dropped by a ton. For years, I've wanted some sort of Classic/EXE crossover (with maybe some X and Legends to account for their few alternate universe counterparts in the EXE series), but it might just not be possible.

The licensing issues in the US regarding the EXE series was a mess during its heyday, wasn't it? Might still be a mess now.

Why have I suddenly come to this kind of conclusion? There are five days, and likely five teaser images.

Again, admittedly it's a bit early, but my previous crossover statement was on the idea that Zero and ZX wouldn't be featured, as the term 'Mega Man/Rockman' in both series is treated as more of a title, rather than referring to an actual character.

In that case, it would have been Classic, X, Volnutt/Trigger, EXE, and SSR.

But now with MMZ Zero in the play, it's looking like a strictly Robotics Timeline crossover instead, in which there are five series - Classic, X, Zero, ZX, and Legends.

*waits for the purists to celebrate*

    ReplyDelete
  34. A crossover would be really neat. I always hoped that idea would materialize in a game first, though.

Since when is the discussion here about hating the MM fan comunity?

    ReplyDelete
  35. I'll take that bet, Amir.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I would take that bet Amir. There's 3 images of this set left. I'll make the bold leap and assume they'll all be of an individual series main character. There's only 5 other Mega Man series, so chosen at random under that assumption at least one has to be from a series you named.

On that note, 5 is conveniently the same number as series in the robotic timeline. If this is the crossover everyone here wants to think it is; wouldn't that be clean patrician of the series?

    ReplyDelete
  37. ...why does everyone think this is something OTHER than another of Udon's artbooks? Which I would probably HAVE to buy at some point?

Not that I would MIND a massive, well done Robotics timeline crossover comic, it just seems unlikely.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I'm kind of hoping its either an artbook or separate comics, I don't really like cross-overs because I don't feel like they accomplish anything, they're not really canonical....

    ReplyDelete
  39. MegaManMegaFan: Mega Man Legends 3. >_>

    ReplyDelete
  40. Next thing revealed will be a .EXE thing.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I'm banking that this is just a massive artbook by Udon, which can be considered a big step for them as far as handling rockman stuff is concerned. I see no reason whatsoever why to think it would be anything else at this time. A crossover would just be a cluttered and pointless mess.

    ReplyDelete
  42. OMG!!! That's Zero Series' Zero's forearm
    and Z-Saber! XD YEAH!!!

    What could this mean???

    ReplyDelete
  43. If Axl appears instead of X I will cry

    ReplyDelete
  44. Aaaaand, X is up.

    EXE next, please.

This is kinda exciting. And I don't even read manga.

    ReplyDelete
  45. The third image has been added. It's a close up of X's face.

    ReplyDelete
  46. X!!!

    YESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYES!!!

    ReplyDelete
  47. duuude image 3 is shown an OMG its X's face!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  48. YEAH
    http://www.udonentertainment.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/Teaser_3of5.jpg

    ReplyDelete
  49. The shading of Zero's hand is intriguing...

    ReplyDelete
  50. @Anon:

Shading? Whaddya mean? It's just the Z-Saber's light hitting Zero's arm...

    ReplyDelete
  51. It's almost official, it's gonna be a MegaMan crossover manga.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Everyone...

    Mega Man Tribute

    All I gotta say.
If it is, consider your hopes crushed, and I win a cookie.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Clearly, it's Mega Man Minigame Mania Mash. :D

    ReplyDelete
  54. My guess is that its a comic dealing with the transitions from series to series in the robotics timeline. We see x, zero from his series, what looks like trigger from legends. Now we just need classic and ZX.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I bet it's gonna be megaman tribute, that's the first thing I though even when the rock volnutt image was the only one u,u.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Please let EXE be next.

Legends and X are there, so just add EXE and I'll be happy.

    ReplyDelete
  57. About Zero's color, maybe he is using the Defense Form from MMZ2 or a chip from Z3?

    ReplyDelete
  58. It's Smash Bros. Brawl, Mega Man style!

    ReplyDelete
  59. An artbook of new stuff spanning every series?

Definitely worth a purchase over the MM/X/Z/BN/SF OCW's and/or the Robot Master Field Guide, by nature.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Fourth image is up, looks like Grey from ZX Advent. At this point I'm sure it's going to be a comic crossover. UDON doesn't usually do a single issue, so this may span multiple comics.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I never seen X so pissed off

    ReplyDelete
  62. Um.....where do you see Grey/Ashe? Doesn't look like either one to me.

    ReplyDelete
  63. @TAG:

The tubing. That belongs to Grey and Ashe when in AX form.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Capcom's Art of Megaman

    ReplyDelete
  65. The ZX one doesn't have the same black background. Maybe they're not all part of a single larger image.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Looks like a robotics timeline only thing. The next one will obviously be Classic.

Unless they squeeze one more image in on Wednesday, which I doubt.

    ReplyDelete
  67. The 4th is Grey, Ashe doesn't have those plugs (instead she has a ponytail)

    ReplyDelete
  68. Ashe nothing. Only Grey has those tubie-things. Ashe has her ponytail.
Oh, yes. I'm totally psyched for this. Whatever "this" is. :D

    ReplyDelete
  69. *wriggles with delight*

Yay! ZX getting acknowledged! :D That's definitely Grey; Ashe doesn't have the tubing. Grey has it because he was hooked up to machinery when he woke up.

Sorry, EXE fans! This is probably a robotics only gig.

    - Lee (aka anon number whatever)

    ReplyDelete
  70. It's only Grey, Guys.

Ashe doesnt get the tubes because she was never hooked up to that capsule. He gets tubes, she gets the ponytail.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Yeah, it seems EXE and SSR are going to be ignored again. :/

    What else is new.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Ten bucks they show a Met next.

    ReplyDelete
  73. And the last picture will be Classic Mega Man. Count on it.

    ReplyDelete
  74. If you look closely, they all have a background that matches in one way or another, so this is just bits of a giant ass pic. Im leaning towards the crossover.

    ReplyDelete
  75. I don't think they're doing the spin off series.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Richard SaintemillionsDecember 6, 2010 at 7:10 PM

This...is like a dream come true. But maybe it would've satisfied me more if it was Vent or Aille for ZX(they are the main ones). But I guess there is already Zero who is holding the z-saber.

    ReplyDelete
  77. If we're gonna add someone from the ZX timeline, it should've been either Vent or Aile, for represent's sake. (They came first, ZX-timeline-wise.)

And where the hell's .EXE? I must have Megaman.EXE!! I don't care about the robotics timeline, .EXE had Dr. Light involved with it, DAMMIT!

And besides, what if the final clue has .EXE on it, and the bigger picture shows Classic Mega Man on it?

(Oh, and by the way, that is one hell of a kick-ass picture of Volnutt. XD)

    ReplyDelete
  78. Though I do say, I'd love to have that Volnutt pic in full. Like, the full image of that.

(Not to mention a true, non-model kit Volnutt figure... like the one in the TvC commercial...)

    ReplyDelete
  79. Oh wow they actually thought about ZX!

    ReplyDelete
  80. Classic.

    I win, Amir.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Amir, I am fairly certain they used the helmetless Rock Volnutt model kit.

    ReplyDelete
  82. update: the fifth image is classic megaman

    ReplyDelete
  83. @Anon towards me:

Uhh... The bet was that EXE and SSR was to be ignored.
Neither an EXE nor SSR character is shown in these 5 images. So no, I'm the one who "won" the bet.

    ReplyDelete
  84. The announcement is almost here, folks. Wait just a little bit longer!

I wonder if one of you has already guessed what this is correctly? I'd tell you, but then that would ruin the surprise. :)

    ReplyDelete
  85. All those purple touches on the Classic Mega Man makes me wonder if that's not supposed to be Copy Mega Man.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Okkkkaaay so...

    Trigger...
    Z-Series Zero...
    X...
    ZX2's Grey...
    Rock...

No word of EXE / Star Force..

Here's my idea of what it might be:

We all know Classic goes into X, which then goes into Zero, which then goes into ZX, which supposedly, from there somewhere, goes into Legends. All of these series are, at one point or another, interconnected, supposedly, in the grand scheme of things, meanwhile EXE/StarForce are connected but as an alternate universe (from what I understand) of the main MM Cannon.

Soo.. maybe it's an artbook explaining how these series interconnect? ...

or, we could get insanely lucky and it could be a crossover comic of grand, or an animated series (I would die now for an X anime, or anything with his shiny blue can in it), so..

yah, just my take on it, can't wait to see what it is though!

    ReplyDelete
  87. MegaMan Tribute Artbook.

    Or

A MegaMan comic connecting the main series timeline.
    Classic-X-Zero-ZX-Legends

    ReplyDelete
  88. I am fairly certain that first image is Vent. Look at his shoulder. The shading in it make it look like the end of his sleeve

    ReplyDelete
  89. @Anon
"A MegaMan comic connecting the main series timeline.
    Classic-X-Zero-ZX-Legends"

Although Capcom did a good job not leaving a massive cliffhanger from Zero to ZX like they did with the other series, something linking the 5 series is long overdue.
I hope it is as you wish.

    ReplyDelete
  90. No Amir, you bet there would be no EXE, SF or ZX.

    ReplyDelete
  91. "I am fairly certain that first image is Vent. Look at his shoulder. The shading in it make it look like the end of his sleeve"

    No.

Also that isn't ZX's art style OR Vent's hair. And it doesn't make sense at all in the sequence of images.

    NooOOOOOo. No.

    - Lee

    ReplyDelete
  92. So Udon... am I going to have to take time out of my schedule to come over there and draw every single image of Grey and Ashe in this book?

Because I'll consider doing it if you feel the need as greatly as this image implies.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Hmm... I think the mystery anon won that bet since Battle Network and Star Force are not in in MegaMan Tribute.
