Mega Man's 23rd Anniversary

They grow up so fast. Today, December 17th, our beloved Blue Bomber turned 23 years old.

This past year as been exceptionally good for Mega Man with the release of Mega Man 10 and Mega Man Zero Collection, a handful of sweet new swag and merchandise from Udon and Kotobukiya, and the biggest surprise of all: the revitalization of the Mega Man Legends series.

Of course, there was a rather significant low point this year, too: the departure of series creator of Keiji Inafune. Inafune seems to be doing just fine these days, but many are still left questioning just how his leave will affect the series hereafter. However, I'm certain things are in good hands.

Regardless, with Legends 3, Rockman Online, and Mega Man Universe on the horizon, 2011 is definitely a year we can all look forward to in anticipation. Who knows, we might even see a few more surprises down the line!

I am very thankful to have shared a large part of my life with this franchise. It's become such a huge part of my daily routine that not a single day goes by where I'm not thinking about Mega Man. A fan since my years as a pre-schooler, I can safely say I will continue to be immersed in his adventures for many years to come.

Here's to you, Blue Boy.

(trivia: Dec. 17th also marks Mega Man X's 17th anniversary and tomorrow, the 18th, Legends turns 13!)

  1. Next March is also EXE's 10th anniversary. Already?

Tomorrow... Is Jump Festa. Some of us following MvC3 are worried. Leakers claiming that no incarnation of Rockman is in the game. Tomorrow is the moment of truth.

Oh, and by the way, that live stream that Capcom Unity is doing tomorrow? It's not a Rockman game. At the end of the stream today, they said tomorrow's stream was for MvC3. So that surprise that one of the Legends 3 developers mentioned earlier this week is something else. Probably another Legends 3 contest.

  3. Ah, It's been some damn good times I've had with megaman. I remember playing legends for the first time as a 6 year old, Heh.

Well, I'm not sure if megaman will still be great after inafune left, But, hey, I loved X7 and X8, I really dont care for the quality of the games, As long as they arent unplayable, It's all fine by me.

    Long live Rockman?

  6. Happy 23rd birthday, Mega Man!

... unfortunately, it looks like it's going to be a rather crappy one, as it's looking more and more like Mega Man is going to be completely overlooked for MvC 3. Reliable leaks have indicated that Hsien-ko and Phoenix are set to be revealed at Jump Festa this weekend, and if they are, Mega Man has almost certainly gotten the shaft for MvC 3.

And here I believed Capcom actually had gone back to caring about Mega Man and regarding him as their main mascot. But if he's totally left out of MvC 3, then that certainly isn't so.

Eh, we'll see... but it really isn't looking good right now.

  8. Yeah, Happy Birthday to Mega Man, but I'm definitely in agreement with Ash Paulsen about it being a rather crappy one, especially with upcoming garbage like Mega Man Universe on the horizon. Because of that, I'm this close to just giving up on the Classic series entirely.

  10. Geez, please don't say they grow up so fast. I share my birthday with Mega Man, and I'm feeling old. Ugh. Was MM10 really just released this year?

Ash Paulsen: "... unfortunately, it looks like it's going to be a rather crappy one." A rather crappy one indeed...

On that note, still super psyched about MML3.

  11. I don't think this year was bad for MegaMan, I mean, with MegaMan 10 and MegaMan Zero Collection having good grades and selling well and ending up in the top list of Xbox Live, PSN and Gamestop some time ago, I think this was a good year for MegaMan. I got MegaMan 10 last saturady and am looking forward to play it on Xbox 360!
