GBA/GB Games Coming To DSi ?

Very cool rumor floating around: according to a Club Nintendo event, Nintendo supposedly announced plans to bring Game Boy Advance and classic Game Boy games to the Nintendo DSi:
- downloadable Game Boy and Game Boy Advance titles are coming
- first party titles only at start of service
- region locked- save/run from SD card

If this rumor holds true, then we as Mega Man/Rockman fans might be seeing some of our favorite portable titles hit the console in the future. Hopefully more details soon, Nintendo's GDC conference kicks off Wednesday morning.

  1. Very interesting. At the least, I'd expect we'd see games like MM Zero through Zero 4 and possibly MMI-V. However, although they once said that work on the GBC/GBA redo's of the games had stopped, I think this would give Capcom a wonderful opportunity to give it a try once again.

  4. @Brahman: Why be limited to a downloadable GBA title since the source was lost anyway? Why not make the jump to DSiWare or even retail?

  5. MegaRock.EXE: Yes! I've been wanting to play that for years!

I don't care if it's not translated, I'm still going to find a way to buy it in Japanese should this rumor be true.

  6. Wee, I'm being sourced here, even when it's not on MMN! :D

  7. I agree with Mega rock.exe. This would be a great opportunity for a translation of Battle Network 4.5, since it was never released in America.

  8. @Anon#2: I'm saying those are some of the games we'll see or I'd like to see, but there is a 100% chance that we will see DSi-ware from Capcom. What will this be? I cannot say for sure yet. It would be interesting to see a portable port of MM9, maybe some ZX side-stories, a MMVI (GB), etc., but we'll just have to wait and see.

  9. Maybe they could update the DSi firmware with an option to choose which downloaded GBA games to use for link options with DS (like megaman zx's optional bosses, or battle network's different virus busting themes). That way the compatibility won't entirely go away (and maybe hackers'll find a way to put back-upped save files from roms to an SD card and use them on DSi, though I think it'll take a while.. at least.) Or maybe nintendo could release some gadget that allows you to copy GBA saves to your DSi.. They probs won't though, just me thinking aloud.

  11. This is stupid, the DSi not being GBA friendly. Why would I buy a GBA game on VC if I already own the original? It's buying a game twice! Granted, it'll save space when carrying things around, but just pointless IMO

  12. Damn no edit..

It's pointless for people who already own the hard copy.
