Masakazu Eguchi Talks Mega Man Legends 3

To tide you over until the big MML3 announcements later this week, Masakazu Eguchi, director of Mega Man Legends 3, dropped a rather insightful message about the project at the game's development blog. The most noteworthy, reassuring tidbit discussed is confirmation that most of the original MML team are returning for Legends 3! The rest of his message below (and continued after the break):

"Let me start by thanking you all for your flood of comments. The sheer number of comments was unbelievable! But of course, it isn’t just about the numbers. The thought and feeling you put into each post was amazing, and we felt that! Thank you!

The staff here who also follow this blog everyday are excited as well. Even Inafune, joined in the conversation a bit, responding, “You betcha,” to a poster who asked, “Are you really Keiji Inafune?” He’s just cool like that.(I may jump on a thread or two now and then myself.)
From now on I’ll be using this blog to give you detailed updates, so please chime in with your feedback!"

Eguchi's complete message after the break!...

"...And so with that said, why don’t I tell you a little bit about myself and the rest of the MML3 staff.
First of all, as it says in profile on the left, I got my first shot at directing my own title with Mega Man Legends 2. Before that, I was working as a planner. I was in charge of things like the Nino Island Ruins, Calinca Ruins, and Pirate Train missions.

I was still a freshman back then, and truth is that there are some things I wanted to do with Legends 2, but didn’t. Even as I poured myself into the EXE and Star Force projects, I held onto those things and stored them away somewhere in a corner of my heart. This time, as director of Legends 3, inside I am like, “Yesss! It’s time!”

Now, let me tell you who will be working with me to make Legends 3...

First, we have Yoshinori Kawano, director of Legends 1 and Legends 2 who will be overseeing the overall Legends 3 project and offering his unique insight to the rest of the staff into what makes Legends the legend it is. He is as much my spiritual mentor now as he was then, and as strict as he is kind.

Also, we have reunited art directors, planners, designers from the early Legends titles as well as enlisted support from their students, the members EXE and Star Force teams. To top it off, we’ve sprinkles in leaders and key staff from the Monster Hunter, Lost Planet, and Basara titles. I think that it is safe to say that we have put together a team of talent who will best be able to combine the best of both old and new for this project.

We are all going to do our best to bring you a truly unforgettable adventure! We’re working on a plan to get users with no prior experience with Legends interested as well, and we’d love to get your help! But I’ll tell you more about that later.

Talk to you next time! This weekend is NY Comic Con!"

Comic Con is going to be a pretty big deal for MML3. We'll be hearing a lot more about the game and perhaps even catch our first glimpse of it in action! Though I won't be attending, I have a man on the inside who'll be forwarding me up to the minute updates. Stay tuned!

  1. Sounds to me like they're trying to bring as many people from the first two games' staff as possible which is a good thing. God knows how upset people would be if it ended up just being a generic sequel without the heart that was put into the first two games.

  2. I hope whoever did the music returns too =)

  4. Why can’t NY Comic Con come faster :(

  5. I hope they can get the voice actors back, too.

Im as hyper about this as ayone, but i gotta say im still disapointed its for a handheld, it was probobly the deal they had to make to get the green light to make this game hence the previus titles diddent sell that much in the big league and screen to just say it. Still this news gives hope about a great game, Ive been dying to more about the story in legends so here's hoping alright!

  7. This is EXTREMELY reassuring news. The Legends titles always had this comfortable, warm feel to them. They encompassed a good portion of my childhood as all MM games did, but there were special, unique feelings in tiem with Legends. So happy that the majority of the team is returning to make another "legendary" game! Like I said in another post here, the voice acting and music must remain to it's roots. Those two aspects truly made the world and characters that inhabited it come to life! Too good. I cannot wait to see whats more for MegaMan Legends, MEGAMAN LEGENDS 3 XD Still so odd to say...

Even though it's for a handheld, the 3DS is not a normal handheld. It's powers seem to be very great and capable and hopefully it's game storage medium has room for some huge exciting things! Maybe it will even get a way to play on the television like the PSP2000/3000 but we shall see. I have a great hope that MML3 will maybe even become a top selling game for the 3DS! =D

  9. I hope Makoto Tomozawa comes back to do the soundtrack. I loved his work in Mega Man X1, Legends 1 and 2.

  10. So this guy must have known something about the 3D BN5 stuff?

  11. i hope the adventure part will be the same as the legends 1 and 2, with a lot of zones to visit!

and i hope to listen to bach music again, lol

i can't wait the comic con! let's prey to see a trailer, ^^

    (and sorry for my english)

  12. I think this game is guaranteed to be a masterpiece if it has the original staff returning to work on it. That's exactly why Mega Man 9 (to some extent) and 10 have turned out to be so good in the first place.
