English Voice Recording Begins For Legends 3

Ah, now this is the news I've been waiting for! It goes without saying, but the Mega Man Legends series is home to some of the best voice work ever done for the Mega Man franchise. Ever! That said, I really can't wait to hear the work done for Mega Man Legends 3 -- with, or without the original cast.

According to the U.S Devroom, voice recording has already begun for the English version of the game, starting with the vocalization of series newcomer Aero.  Although Capcom didn't reveal who will be providing the voice for our newest heroine, the actress in question dropped an interesting tease: she's voiced a character from a previous Mega Man game. Coming from the U.S Devroom:

---------
Q: What prior experience do you have with Mega Man?  What about the Mega Man Legends series specifically?

A: I have actually worked on another game with the MegaMan characters last year and so I became much more familiar with the series that way. Though I was playing a different character for this title, it was still fun to play in the MegaMan world. My husband told me a lot about the characters and the world when I found out I was cast, since I grew up without a TV and missed many shows (especially Japanese animation). I am excited with what a respected franchise it is though.
---------

Hm... who could she be? We really didn't have ourselves a "vocalized" Mega Man game last year, unless, of course, she's referring to Mega Man Universe whose production would have taken place within 2010. The possibility that she's referring to Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 is something that shouldn't be overlooked, either.

Now that voice recording is taking place, perhaps we should begin to ramp up our support for the return of some of the original cast members? Huge fan of Rob Smith, here, and I'm praying the man will return to voice Teisel Bonne. I'd be great to hear Caroly Larson (Tron) and Tracy Ryan (Roll), too.

If they can't return, well, that's okay in my book. As long as Capcom can continue to uphold the quality of acting Legends is known for, then I think we'll be alright.

More on this story over at the U.S Devroom!

  2. I would kill to provide voice work in the game. Even if it's just a minor character. I wonder who the voice actress could be...hmm...I do hope that most of the original voices return. It just really wouldn't feel right because the voice acting is some of the best I've ever heard, and I've heard a lot. Totally diamonds in the rough.

  3. I would love for Tracy Ryan to be Roll again. Her voice suits her very much. As for Aero either Hynden Walch or Laura Bailey. Preferably Hynden.

  4. Rob N. Smith's status:

If you don't want to check it out, I'll summarize: Hes a pedo, and probably won't be hired to voice Teisel.

  5. My bet is that it's whoever did Tron Bonne in MVC3. The voice recording for that game would have been done last year.

  6. @Omar: Oh god, I'm fucking crushed at that. I WANTED Rob Smith to be back...

I am greatly saddened and disappointed by this.

  7. If (most) of the old cast doesn't return, I'll probably be playing the eventual Undub version

    Yeowch. That's dissapointing.

He had child porn on his computer, that doesn't make him a peadophile, since he didn't have sex with a child. On the other hand, it's totally reprehensible and disgusting, and I wouldn't be surprised if he isn't hired back.

  10. Holy shit, the Alexander Keith guy was the one who voiced Teisel!? I never knew that! But yeah, I heard about what happened to him. Good riddance to those ads!

And I hope they get whoever voiced Mega Man in the first Legends game, not the second.

  11. According to the page that Omar linked to, it just said that Rob Smith was distributing it. That doesn't necessarily mean that he, himself, was a paedophile.

That's an interesting observation that you make. However, you can still be a pedophile and not have sex with kids... though you'd seriously like to have sex with children. Additionally, was the child porn that he distributed something that was handed to him, and he was only passing it on, or did he create his own?

That was rhetorical, no need to jump into answering that.

The point is, the guy had child porn. And that sucks that his mind is in that psychological state since he is so talented.

All in all, maybe we can find a voice actor that can fill those shoes. Lots of people out there, who knows.

  13. Um Mike... I believe that voice actor was a little boy when he voiced that role. He wouldn't sound the same AT ALL any more.

  14. You know what? I don't actually care what he got in trouble for. I still want him in the game.

If Michael Vick can actually kill and torture dogs and still get a job in the NFL being paid millions, then I don't see why this guy is off limits. People make mistakes, even terrible ones. Doesn't mean the man can never work doing the thing he is very good at ever again.

  15. @Krazy Monkey: If you've read the full story (which I'm a bit too lazy to look for right now), he had that porn because he likes pornography of all kinds, so long as they're, as I remember him stating it in his court confession, "exciting and titillating". Also, apparently he had over 800 images of children under 12 engaged in sexual acts. So, ya... he's a pedo.

If Michael Vick can torture and kill dogs and get a job in the NFL being paid millions, then this guy should get a second chance as well.

People make mistakes, even terrible ones. Either he can do his time and we treat him like any other person (well maybe not let him watch over your kids) or we should just lock him up forever and throw away the key. I see no reason he shouldn't be able to do the thing he's talented at any longer if he's paid his public dues.

  17. Also, I say she was Roll in the localization of Tatsunoko vs. Capcom which was actually a little over a year ago.

  18. I remember when Pokemon USA aired that Mirage episode as a 'testing ground' for new voice actors, who tried to 'mimic' the old voice actors' voices.

And they sucked worse than 4Kids could ever do.

That said, I'm not fond of people who try to mimic voices, unless they do it near perfectly and without flaw, but nothing is perfect in this world. I don't think anyone could do as good as a job as Rob did.

Children as young as 12 MONTHS, mind you.

Interesting to see the ethics of everyone at work here. I'm just saying... a little bit of my childhood died when I read up on him.

  20. @Kelly: You say she could be the Roll from the localized version of Tatsunoko vs Capcom, and yet I seem to recall that game kept the voices from the japanese version (supposedly) for budget reasons. At the moment, I can't find anything that will confirm or deny what you or I say to be true.
As for Legends 3, one thing is for sure: ALL bets for Hynden Walch or Laura Bailey are OFF.

  21. Regarding casting for this, it's pretty clear they're not gonna be using the original actors for this. New Generation Pictures seems to be Capcom's go-to recording studio now and they're located in LA, with a talent pool infinitely better than the original cast anyhow. If they're carrying over Tara as Tron and Kari as the Servbots from Marvel Vs. Capcom 3, I've got no problems with that. The people who work at NewGen can get actors that can do just as good, if not BETTER of a job than the voices of the previous games.
