Inafune Visits Bungie

Keiji Inafune dropped by the house that made Halo, Bungie Studios, the other day. Apart from giving the latest game in the series a whirl, Inafune was also there to scope out potential business opportunities.

"I wanted to come down to Bungie in order to see just how well our philosophies on game design matched up. If things clicked, I know it would be interesting to collaborate together on a title in the future." He added, "(I) curious about how they made their games in hopes of being up to add some of the flavor into Capcom games." - Bungie.net interview w/Inafune

Can you imagine it? Bungie + Capcom= first person Mega Man? You never know.

  1. I may be shot for this, but I still consider Halo to be one of the most entertaining and exellently awesome FPS's ever. A megaman FPS from them? GIMME.

  2. Perhaps he wanted to understand the Western Market. I mean video games nowadays is dominated by the West. . .perhaps it is time for a change for the Japanese Market, but then again some people don't like change, so who knows?

  3. You know, that's an interesting piece of news. It would be interesting to see some sort of Rockman FPS, but I'm also inclined to think that Capcom might be thinking of working with Bungie to develop a game engine for other projects (not necessarily FPS games), like a Legends title. It all comes down to controls, game mechanics, graphics, and gameplay, and Bungie could work with them to make something pretty sweet.

  4. Oh hell yes. Legends or X in an extremely well-made, high-graphic FPS.

  5. Western games dominate the market? Uh, since when?

Anyway, I wonder if it's got something to do with Dead Rising. I wish it was for Legends 3, that would be a dream come true.

Funny note: I liked Legends, but not nearly as much as the classic games. But all this anticipation for Legends 3 seems like it's made me like the series all that much more. I wonder if this is their plan :)

  7. @HyperCoyote: I think he meant that the Western market is the biggest... which it is... undeniably. Western includes Europe.

    LOLNO.

You are one of the reasons the MM fanbase is so horrible. Not because you prefer Rockman over Megaman as a name, but because you probaly hate any of the english names(and games for that matter)because of that fact they're differnt from the Japanese one. BECAUSE JAPAN IS~~**~~ SO KAWAII~~**~~ XD.Guess what?

Rockman sounds like a name for a stupid ass comic book hero.

Megaman sounds like a robot version of Superman or something, and that's kickass.

All of this is my opinion. Besides Rockman being a stupid name when you think about it.

  13. Huh. Well...this is interesting. I don't think this necessarily means "more Megaman!", but this could lead to something good.

@Anon2: It's not the end 'til Capcom says so. RELAX.

  14. @Anon4: How Megaman sounds LESS like a generic comic book hero than Rockman is beyond me. If you pick on him because he likes the name you don't, you're exactly the same thing he is. It doesn't matter which one you like since neither Japan nor the Western markets are going to rename him.

    Yeesh.

  15. @Anon 4: You do realize Superman is a stupid ass comic book hero, right?

  16. Bungie didn't always create first person shooters, as far as I know.

If both Capcom and Bungie are indeed planning on working on something together, I would doubt that it'd be FPS-based if it is Rockman-based. I just don't see how it would work.

Either way, the idea of them working on something together is pretty damned awesome, whether you hate Halo in general or not.

  17. Megaman is not a serious name, Rockman is a name for the real fans, not the kikoolol. Thanks.

  18. As one of you guys also suggested, there is a very good chance that it could be a Resident Evil game as well (maybe they want to bring it to an even higher level or something?). Either way, this sounds like a good thing.

  19. Although I honestly hate FPS games, I'd give an FPS MM a try. Metroid Prime was fun, even though it's technically an FPA.

    @Hitomi Neko
Uhhh considering this is Inafune we're talking about, that is HIGHLY unlikely.

    *hinthint*Inafune hated Super Adventure Rockman.

  20. X series MMO FPS. Make your own Hunter like Warcraft or something. .. or Maverick. ... or whatever...

Capcom would own my soul, as would Bungie.

*needs to play Halo and get very GOOD at FPS games, very quickly..*

    Dude, ... just.. win.

  21. Way back when, near when there were first person shooters coming out almost every day, I had an amazing thought and concept of an Axl first person shooter. It basically was playing through his entire backstory up until about the time X7 begins. Perhaps it could be called something like "Axl: Origins" or some mess.

Due to a previous Anon, I also have to add my two cents about "MegaMan" and "Rockman" names. Using one or the other does not distinguish a "true MegaMan fan". I think Rockman isn't a serious name at all. It would be just like calling someone "Bobman" or "Johnman" or "Carlman". Taking their name and adding "man" to the end of it. Not a fitting heroic alias and not too powerful to me. MegaMan on the other hand has a certain kick to it and it flows off the tongue. ;)

  22. But dude, Rockman comes from Rock and Roll... how much more epic can you get? Megaman is the epitome of cheesiness and makes me think of Ultra Man and Super Man and a host of other cheesy comic book characters. It's an awful name.
