Robot Master Inspired 'Magicka' DLC Now Available

Good news for you Magicka players: the Robot Master inspired robes, which were previously discovered by Joseph Collins, are now available for download. You can grab the "Mega Villain Robe" pack on Steam or GamersGate for a mere $1.99.

In Magcika, players don robes instead of armor; you're a wizard, after all. And what better way to instill fear in your enemies than in the guise of either Ice Man, Fire Man or Elec Man? Pretty cool tribute, if I do say so myself. There's definitely a Mega Man fan or two at Arrowhead Studios.

Thanks to Joesph Collins and Niroth for the tip!

  2. Wonder what a Cutrobe or a Bombrobe or, dare I say it, a Gutsrobe would look like.

  4. @July 27, 2012 5:05 PM Anon: Classic made the series what it is, and it's Classic that is getting the most attention for the anniversary. Suck it up. It's not all about Legends you know.

  5. How about a Hivolt, Buckfire and Bifrost robe?

Could be worse. At least we didn't get something like "Rapido," "Buzzby," and "Cronola" robes. ;3

  7. That is pretty sweet! lol! Kinda makes me want to play Magicka just to get one of those robes. :D

Oh, and Anon2, the fact that this is something that has nothing to do with Capcom should really make you think before you speak. This is fan-inspired just like the previous events with Legends except it is within a MMORPG. Even if it wasn't, I think Anon3 sums it up pretty nicely. ^^

  8. @Anon2: Legends doesn't have very memorable characters, or bosses, for the majority of people to 'get'. The Classic series, and Robot Masters, is much more iconic and therefore works.

And like Leona said, these are just tributes. Who cares what series they're from then?

I'm gonna have to agree, though - I'm getting tired of all the Classic focus. The big four from zero were nearly as memorable, but... well, you don't see as much on them at all. I'd love to see a larger focus on the Zero/ZX era.

  10. @Dr. Jerk: I disagree, Legends has plenty of memorable and charismatic characters. If it's about recognition, I doubt that many normal people know these particular robot masters anyway.

That being said, I do think classic should be the one represented, and would've been happy with any kind of tribute

  11. @fantasy empress rolina: Classic deserves it more. Not only did it create the name for the series and established the basic principles, but it is responsible for one more thing.

Most of the robot masters served as inspiration for the BN navis, which became a huge success. And lets not forget, Fireman, Iceman, and Elecman were relatively or almost the same when converted to navis. This only reinfirces the point that Classic deserves more attention.

  12. I notice this from time to time, when people say that the original series gets too much focus... but the thing is, it's the original series! Why shouldn't it get so much focus? It's where the entire franchise started.

I mean, I can kinda understand where people are coming from when they say that Mega Man 2 gets more attention than any other game in the series, but I don't agree that the entire series as a whole deserves the attention it gets. Let's not forget that MvC3, stupid as it is for not including the blue bomber, also had no reps from the original series (only the X and Legends series), and although there's still a chance for this to change there's also the fact that Project X Zone so far only has X and Legends representation.

The other series don't get ignored, but you have to understand that the original series is what started it all. It's the "default", you could say.

  13. Why is it I get the feeling the bulk of the commentators here miss the point of this homage?

Magicka is about robed wizards making spell soups out of mixed magic ruins representing elements. So what we're seeing here is taking themes from Magicka common to another series and homaging that foreign series.

You can't expect the Arrowhead to throw random viruses, or X's elemental extrapolations of animals, or the Bonnes, or Mets, or the X Hunters, in as player skins and have it come out looking anywhere near like what Magicka did to begin with.

  14. @July 28, 2012 7:58 AM Anonymous: Besides Data doing The Monkey, the three Bonnes, and Barrell Caskett's face, there really wasn't that much memorable, or easily recognizable to the non-Legends fan, about Legends.

I listed those three because, before replaying Legends, those were the only things that I vaguely remembered from when I played the game as a child. Funny, I could have sworn that Teisel had a beard in my past memory... (No joke.)

  15. that's awesome yet strange at the same time, here's hoping they make another pack with robes based on the other 3 mm 1 robot masters. it would make sense to have all 6 at some point but it would be cool to also have robes based on megaman, protoman and bass.
