  1. It’s like dragon ball, let’s retell the story again: and then another robot showed up………

    1. Also like Dragon Ball Super anime, it went on a hiatus starting in 2018. Also oddly enough, MM12 is announced, now the Moro arc of the DBS animation has been announced. Strange timing for both MM and DB, two things I like a lot.

  3. I can't enjoy these comics cuz it's a predictable retelling of the first game, the writer clearly has no respect for the lore, the writing is terrible and just one-liners, and the art isn't that great. Archie had more respect and effort put into the X series despite being brief side stories.

    1. Lol, what "lore"? There's barely any dialogue in most MM games prior to the PS1 era. Adding in some cheeky one-liners or aspects to the Mavericks that aren't explained in the games (if you read these comics you'll know what I mean) isn't a big deal.

Also, I find it funny that you prefer Archie, because when those comics were being released I remember some in the fanbase roasting Ian Flynn for his writing. Which just goes to show that you can't please everyone.

    2. @Mature I was thinking the same thing with regard to the snarky one-liners and annoying references to older series. His writing issues leaked into the way he wrote Sonic, too.

    3. Just because the lore wasn’t on the physical cartridges doesn’t mean it wasn’t always there.

Even just having read the FCBD issue, there were things that seemed careless (Cold Man is an environmentalist concerned about penguins because…? He’s laidback, dim-witted, and made to store dinosaur DNA. I imagine him being more like a sycophantic lab assistant that does whatever he’s told. And that’s actually in his debut game!).

    4. @Mature. If you think there's no lore, that's a you problem, and says you lack basic reading comprehension. I'll take Ian Flynn's writing over Dan Arsenault's any day. Especially after the whole VAVA was my slave name fiasco.

    5. @Nico, Woah, they said that? That's pretty distasteful.

    6. "Fiasco", AKA a handful of overly-sensitive people on Reddit making something a bigger deal than it actually is. Which is pretty typical for our fanbase I guess. I also know Udon will always have its detractors because I guess the top guy has expressed some anti-DEI sentiment or whatever. Personally I don't care.

You can prefer whichever written adaptation of MM you want. Ariga's manga, Archie, this comic line, etc. The main point I'm trying to make is when you're creating entire comic lines based off videogames with very little dialogue, you have no choice but to inject some of your own takes on the characters. Their history, personalities, likes, etc.

But unless the writers are introducing things that blatantly contradict the foundational stuff from the games, I don't consider it "disrespecting the lore". It's filler material in order to deliver a story.

    7. @MM of course you don't care, cuz it doesn't affect you. Typical out of touch response. Also, it's not being "overly sensitive". It's having basic human decency and respect. If you can't think critically and understand that, that's a you problem.

    8. It’s the same story over and over… and one of the lamest stories, we get it, robots, yawn, jerk jerk, robots, yawn

    9. jerk jerk, you say? >:3

    10. @Almost Oil Story, More seriously though, what would you like the stories to be about?

    11. So you just plain don't like them.

  4. Joke’s on you, I don’t like any adaptation!

Well, Megamix is alright I guess. I like what he did with Skull Man, giving an appearance to a lot of people’s headcanons.

    1. I like what Ariga did with Skull Man, and it's entirely based off the notion that his move-set doesn't begin until you start moving, which is pretty cool.

Like I said, everyone has the right to like/dislike any adaptation. I like them all because they have their unique art style and writing, and why am I going to look a gift horse in the mouth when there usually isn't anything coming out these days? Fully Charged would be the only exception to my rule because it was so out there I feel like while it didn't really hurt things, it also did nothing to build brand awareness either.

  5. honestly, i do think this comic is getting better as time goes on. timelines issue 1 was pretty standard leaning towards boring, issue 0 had some artwork i really enjoyed but i felt like vile's "vava is my slave name moment" eered too edgy for my liking, i saw a thread saying the author wasn't sure about it but capcom approved it and i think it's some sort of reference to some movie (don't quote me on that.) but when we got around to issue 1 i think that's the point where i felt like i hopped on.

that issue builds off the context of the last two and him trying to save storm eagle was great to see, in all of the games you see X fight against swarms of mavericks and he's always trying to reason with them, but here you see him reject what he did to chill penguin and try to find another way, its a great moment and even though storm eagle sacrifices himself it does make me feel like these comics are going to get better with time.

i think the one thing that would help is just having more space in an issue to write a story, thats sort of what i thought made ian flynn's megaman work fun to read is that he could make a full 22-page story work very well. say what you will about how frequent references are made, those comics had great reception and it was called "one of the smartest comic books on the shelves." for arcs like the emerald spears and it into the darker pit of megaman stuff! i could see something like that really working for the X comics, i would love to see original stories in X, humans showing up, hell even mini-arcs similar to absolute batman's pacing with different mavericks might be great!

hoping that things only go up from here and that the writing improves and has more chances to shine.

    1. I'd rather they not waste time ripping into other Mega Man series - especially when the criticism doesn't make sense, like the "animeriffic" short circuit.

    2. Wait, did he literally say “VAVA was my slave name?”

That’s… kinda ballsy, especially in a world where no one is allowed to say the name of Boba Fett’s ship. And honestly, I can appreciate the Archie-esque attempt to reconcile the Japanese and English names, even if VAVA doesn't really make sense as a name for pre-Maverick Vile.
