Inafune Answers Your Questions (Part II)

Inafune's back with another batch of answers to your questions. Topics this time around include Powered Up 2, Mega Man animation, fan works, the franchise's future, and a whole lot more. Check them out after the break!

6) Snppls asks:
What is your stance on fan made material? Like fanart, sprite comics, remixes, fangames or the Rockman movie currently in production in the US. Do you like it that fans are so into your creation or does it bother you that they are using copyrighted material? Do you watch it sometimes or sometimes even get ideas from it?

Inafune:
I totally welcome all sorts of Mega Man-inspired-art created by the fans. I really would like to create a game with the fans. I have had the desire since the Robot Master Contest, and the fans’ Mega Man art come from the same inspiration. In reality, there are copyright issues and that puts me on a tough position as a member of a company, but I truly believe that Mega Man has come this far with warm supports from the passionate fans and their creative art work.

7) Samuel asks:
Will there be a new megaman anime series from the Starforce side, Battlenetwork side, or the megaman operate starforce? (Please answer I've been waiting for some new megaman animated goodness)

Inafune: I am ready to witness exciting Mega Man action in the animation, too. I would love to try it out when I have a chance, and in fact, I have been thinking about specific ideas on this, too. I will do my best to make this happen and hope to surprise you with the news. We will definitely need your support to make this happen!

8) ibehv asks:
Why is zero's appearance in megaman zero different from his appearance in megaman x?

Inafune: Zero is one of the most important characters for me. Initially, Zero was created for the Mega Man X fans as well as for fans new to the series. But rather than making a game with Zero as a main character in the established storyline, we wanted to create a brand new storyline for him with a completely new game design. Thus, Zero you all know now was born. The story of the Mega Man Zero game also tells you the secret behind the Zero’s appearance change. So if you haven’t played the game yet, please try it out!

9) The Blue Badger asks:
What direction would you like to see the Mega Man franchise go in the future?

Inafune: I’ve never stopped thinking about the future of Mega Man series! I want more people to get to know Mega Man and fall in love with it. And I am always thinking about the best way to attract more people to play the game. But instead of us guiding you the direction where we go, I would collaborate with the fans and decide where we go. It would be fantastic if you and we can together create a new direction for Mega Man.

10) Monochrome Twist asks:
What are the chances of us seeing a Mega Man Powered Up 2?

Inafune: Many people have asked us about that. I too feel very passionate about making it happen. But as a reality, there are so many things I want to do and Mega Man Powered Up 2 is one of the projects that is still patiently waiting for its turn…

11) Zepper asks:
It's been 1 year since the release of Mega Man 9, but until then, we're inside an endless quest for something "extra". Even with a lot of recorded gameplays, tricks and so on, it's said there's still an undiscovered secret or a little surprise. Could you point us to a certain direction?

Inafune: Well, let me think… I am guessing that most of the tricks and secrets have been discovered by now as there are so many good players out there and they have revealed their great Mega Man 9 skills. So I would rather love to see you try it out and surprise me with your cool techniques and hidden elements! Very looking forward to seeing that!

That's it for round two. Congrats to those who got an answer!

The third and final part features answer from Rockman Megamix's Hitoshi Ariga. Stay tuned!

  2. Hmm. Pretty much another bunch of non-answers. Oh well, it's still nice to hear from Inafune.

    @Anon -

Don't count on it. Money and sales talk, and Powered Up neither made much money nor sold many copies, especially in Japan. Blame it on the PSP's meager popularity at the time (which is only slightly less meager now, making a Powered Up 2 remain a risky prospect and a tough sell to this day). I know what Inafune said, but he's also not going to come right out and say "well, sorry. Powered Up sold terribly, so I don't think the company would ever greenlight Powered Up 2." That just isn't very good PR.

I'd love to see Powered Up 2 as much as anyone, but common sense says it's just not gonna happen. I'd love to be wrong, though.

  4. I think he got his college degree in Circumlocution.

  5. I think it isn't very fair for people to judge him for not answering a question fully. I mean, look at the position he's in.

He's one of the heads of a major, major company. He can't just go out and splurt out every single little detail he wants and/or is doing. It's very unprofessional to do so. Besides, it's not like us fans are making it easy for him.

Half of us are begging for a new X game, and the other half are crying for a Legends. While some, for some reason, are wanting new EXE or StarForce games, and new in the Zero series. As well as others wanting new Classic games! If I was Inafune, I would be pretty confused on what to do first!

All we really need to know is that Inafune enjoys his fans more then anything, as well as hearing their suggestions. ^_^ We just need to give him time to blow our minds again!

  6. I guess I can't complain. He kinda answered my question, well, 2 out of 3 anyway which is pretty good.
Him apreciating fan created content is pretty much what I needed to know.

  7. The funny thing about answer 8 is that even the "real" Zero's design changed. Apparently Inti wanted players to have a mirrored-fight, but personally, I would have loved to fight the old, bulky Maverick Hunter Zero.

Would be really cool if they made that a reality in Zero Collection, but that would never happen...

Why wouldn't fans want more Battle Network and/or Star Force games? They're great series.

The only reason I wouldn't want more Battle Network is so the story (which is finished) wouldn't be ruined. But if more Star Force is planned beyond SF 3, I say bring it on. But if the story is concluded (and it seems like it is), let it stay done.

  9. @MaverickHuntrAsh,

You a little faith. It will happen.

  10. Sorry, I never liked the EXE or StarForce series. ^^;

Don't get me wrong, they are really fun to play.. But I'm not a huge fan of the series. Just felt like it took away from the main series of Mega Man, as it was in an different dimension. But!

I do commend Inafune for creating the series, as it was a huge switch over from what Mega Man is. The main thing that the series is to me, is a sign that Inafune is full of all sorts of cool ideas. ^_^

((Besides, I'm hoping for Legends above any other Mega Man. As we have had that cliff hanger for nearly a decade. D: ))

  11. Battle Network and Starforce will definately continue. This is because Zero, Classic, Legends, X, and anything else I might have accidently missed is in one Megaman universe. Battle Network and Starforce are in another Megaman universe. Both are Megaman, only in different Megaman universes. To stop making games for the Starforce/Battle Network series or any new series that will be added to this Megaman timeline will be like destroying one of the Megaman univereses. In other words, they would have technically destroyed "part" of Megaman. Course this means that they also have to add to the other Megaman universe too. Its just hard to explain.

  13. I say we get some pitchforks, put Inafune-san on our shoulders, and march to Capcom corporate headquarters, where we siege the building until they agree to fund MML3.

And then we stick around to make sure they do it. And mooch their food.

They have food in Japan, right?

  14. Release Powered up or Maverick Hunter X on DS and I may care. As it stands they're the only things I'd want on PSP and I'm not buying another system.. not to mention buying a system just for TWO games.

    Chant with me!!!

    -X SERIES ANIME-!!

You KNOW it needs to be done! This is the series that BEGS for it the most!

    ...X SERIES ANIME...

  16. When will they stop wasting these opportunities with "Any chance for a sequel to this?" The answer, if not a resounding "no," is always the same. I would gladly trade all these answers away for just the answer to what's going on when Zero's head gem lights up in X4's flashback scene.

  17. Oh man, I completely forgot about Megaman 9's little "secret". So, did anybody find that out, or was it just bullshit to spread interest in the game?

  19. *Chants with previous Anon* Rockman X anime, Rockman Zero anime, Rockman ZX anime, Rockman DASH anime, ...!

Mega Man Powered Up 2 should be released for other console. PSP isn't much popular.

I hope Seth doesn't say "I know a secret about Mega Man 10 that no one know", at least not before revealing the MM9 one (If it exists)

  20. Megaman Megamix anime! And a Rockman Zero anime based on the Zero manga!

    ReplyDelete
  21. The EXE and Star Force anime didn't really have much to do with the games at all. The only similarities were the basic universe background and (most of) the characters.

Hell, even the background of the anime Rockman.EXE was completely different from his game counterpart. The whole 'Rockman.EXE is Saito' thing is never mentioned in the anime, meaning that there he's basically just an upgraded NormalNavi that Dr. Hikari suddenly creates from out of nowhere.

And Cross Fusion... *shudders* Whoever thought it was a good idea to turn the anime into somewhat of a Power Rangers rip-off needs to get shot. Thankfully the games wouldn't touch this even with a 1 mile pole.

I'm not sure why you guys would want a full-blown X anime in the first place after this, unless you guys are already willing to acccept that the anime is very likely to be vastly different (usually in really bad ways) from the actual games.

  22. Why did'nt someone ask whos the 3rd character in Mega/Rockman 10, I hope someone would ask it and may be the answer will be a clue or some thing....:)

  23. "I'm not sure why you guys would want a full-blown X anime in the first place after this, unless you guys are already willing to acccept that the anime is very likely to be vastly different (usually in really bad ways) from the actual games."

As long as it's well done and fleshes things out in an interesting way, I am ABSOLUTELY down with that.

The setting itself makes a good setup for a sort of cop drama, ala all the GOOD X series fanfiction out there.

  24. The X manga makes for good source material, too.

  25. "Why did'nt someone ask whos the 3rd character in Mega/Rockman 10, I hope someone would ask it and may be the answer will be a clue or some thing....:)"

I'm glad questions like that didn't get chosen. Why? Because they never get answered anyway. It's just like asking when he's going to make ... game. They're a business above all and they'll never reveal their plans or make any anouncements without running it through the marketing department. He never answers those with concrete facts.

  26. I hope they asked if theres gonna be a RZ5 and I hope they make it soon heres hoping....

  27. What i want to know, is that why no one had ever ask him, to make the figure series of all Megaman series. not a bunch of toys for kids, but figure with details, articulations, and other aspects like the S.I.C. series.

  28. Im not sure but in Megaman 9 at the wily stage 3 the stage look is like Base stage in SNES did anyone ask if Base is a hidden Boss there or something....
