Arcade1Up Mega Man Collection Plug & Play Out Now + Video Reviews

Arcade1Up's brand-new Mega Man Collection HDMI plug & play console is seemingly now available in the U.S. Reports are coming in you can find it at Target, Walmart and... Office Depot, of all places.

And sure enough, we have a couple video reviews to check out, too. Is this bite-sized box a winner? Or is it a $39.99, mediocre novelty? Find out after the jump below!

So to sum it up, you're probably better off investing in Mega Man Legacy Collection 1 (and 2) or a Nintendo NES Classic Edition. But hey, if you do pick one up, it is relatively easy to turn it into a decent emulation box.

So yeah. Have at it, if you'd like!

  1. Reversing the controls is a deadly sin. Tha ks for the warning.

  2. Watching the first vid just to find that they did a Gamecube Anniversary goof by reversing jump and shoot kills it for me, especially when he pointed out it doesn't have any options to change it even for the games loaded on an SD card. Add in the usual cheap emulation issues of things sounding off, especially on that SD game showcase, and my previous hype is gone now.

Looks like I'll be buying my niece and nephews the Legacy Collections to introduce them to the series as Capcom intended this Christmas, and then hope they work fine on PS5.

    1. It will surely work extremely fine on the Switch Pro this spring ;)

    2. You could also pick up the legacy collection on switch and the retro classic nes controllers. That's about as close to Capcom intended as you can get short of original carts.

    3. I can't wait to get PS5 and transition my entire PS4 library especially my legacy Mega Man games. Hopefully Capcom goes big with a home console Mega Man game. Mega Man with the Power of SeriesX/S and PS5 done by visual gods like Level5(Legends/BN/SF) or ArcSys(Classic/X/Zero/ZX) is a dream of mine.

    4. Wait, a Mega Man game by ArcSys? You mean, like BlazBlue?
I would shit myself if a colab like that happened. That would be great.
BlazBlue is fantastic (if not confusing). A Capcom Vs ArcSys would be great. The music alone would be epic. And they won't skirt the story at all.

  3. I mean.... It's not bad..... So Probably is better off just getting Legacy Collection. But as I said once, if you're a TRUE MegaMan fan, probably only worth it as a collectors item. Considering it's just emulation anyway, and there's an SD card slot, I'm sure that's worth it to someone out there.

  4. I expected a lot more from Arcade1up. Who dropped the ball? Dollar Store-looking aesthetics with botched controls on a controller that's too big with unnecessary buttons? They don't release a Power Battle/Fighters Arcade Cabinet but opt for this instead? I really do hope one is down the pipeline...

  5. Oof... reversing the controls like that in a Mega Man-dedicated machine is a MASSIVE slip up.

  6. Yeah, no. Not buying this at all. For $40? Not with that sort of quality control. Usually I’ll let things slide, but there’s two things I can’t pass by with emulation... and this device has both of them!:

    1. Inaccurate sound emulation. Everything is lower than it should be, and I HATE this.

    2. Inaccurate button mapping. Sigh... I can’t believe this happened again with a collection of Mega Man games. No excuse. No one naturally played these games with jump/shoot reversed. From experience with the GameCube, it ruins the whole experience.

Thanks for saving me $40, Protodude.

  7. I think i'm just going to buy it because it's nice to have on a collection, but i'll play legacy collection instead.

  8. Worst part about this, any possible new fans that don’t know any better will think this is how the original game was. I knew it was going to be a flop from the beginning. Huge bummer

    1. Maybe. On the flip side though, newer fans have had several options to play the Classic 6. They are on the WiiU eshop, the 3DS eshop, the Legacy Collection on the 3DS and Switch and MM2 on the NES Classic.

    2. Let's just shill for Nintendo and act like the best and most easily accessible way to play does't exist (PC) and completely skimp the best selling console of the past decade (PS4).

    3. Couple things, man. One, PS4 has been been on the market far longer than Switch. And two, Switch is selling at a ridiculously fast past... far faster than PS4 in its third year. Switch is also the best selling console for the last 22 months consequtively.

    4. @6:36 PM: Was any of what I stated inaccurate, why are you coming at me with fastest selling and last 22 month stats?

Yes Switch is selling more compared to PS4's 3rd calendar year, Switch actually had a full first calendar year. They have comparable numbers time-frame wise otherwise. Even then Wii was faster selling than PS4 by the same metric, PS4 is now the second highest selling home console. PS4 by the way did this with no gimmicks, it did it by being a straight up traditional home console, a market Sony now completely dominates, forcing Nintendo to not even compete on those terms opting for directly reducing to the handheld market (which make no mistake is exactly what the Switch is, external audio/video output be damned, a feature linked back to the Nomad all the way through PSP) of which they've had a tight grip on since forever.

Forget all that tho, what are you even going on about? This isn't a biggest stick contest. My reply was to say there are 2 (actually 3) huge platforms "newer" fans can use to access the classic 6 Mega Man games, yet mentions only Nintendo products, why? You really telling me people are such Nintendo loyalists that they can follow MM game releases on every single Nintendo platform and completely turn a blind eye to gigantic 100 plus million install bases on other platforms? How is that even possible man? Are we Nintendo shills or Mega Man fans cause it often feels like the later takes a backseat to the former around here.

  9. Yeah, no. I'll stick with the Legacy Collection, thanks.

  10. As a collector, I might pick one up on a Black Friday sale or on clearance, but I would never pay $40 for such an inferior product. Pity.
