Bass's Absence In MM9 Officially Explained *SPOILERS*

The lack of Bass in Mega Man 9 certainly ticked quite a few people off.  Where was he? How could a character of his caliber be completely absent?

According to developer commentary in the Arrange Album booklet, Bass was apparently undergoing "adjustments" during the events of MM9. Not only does this explain why he's absent, but also as to why he appears on Dr. Wily's monitor in the final moments of the game. So, presumably, Wily was working on Bass. Why? Who knows; it's up for speculation.

Many thanks to Vixy and marshmellowman for the find!

  2. So..let me get this straight..they "needed" a whole game for him to undergo some sort of an upgrade when the series have been gone for 10 years?! besides, light said megaman had not been fighting for some time. couldent he had undergo those upgrades during that time?! what bull! capcom just made that up becouse the noticed how upset people were when he was not in the game but one blinking sprite!

  4. Well, if they use that as the excuse, Bass/Forte should be back in MM10.

  5. To those of you damning Capcom for more or less leaving him out of the game, keep in mind: the game didn't need Bass to be awesome as hell.

I was curious about his absence, but honestly, with all the Bass hype in the MM fandom...Were he playable or fightable against, people would nitpick him to hell. Dude can't win.

  6. Spoilers: Mega Man's plot isn't complex like starwars or anything. They could say he returned to his home planet (krypton) and it would still fucking fit.

  7. I'd be willing to bet this came from the same moron who was responsible for the Big Four's half-***ed retconned deaths.

    Idiot.

  9. I hope Capcom wasn't lying about Bass's absence for a reason...

    ...do they?

  10. They really have no reason to "lie."

  11. Spoilers: It's a game with a flimsy as hell plot.

We've had space robots, robots who bend space, spring robots, mermaid robots, robots who suck, robots who blow, robots who blow bubbles, and even robots who shoot black goo.

Just admit it, Mega Man isn't some brilliant work of science fiction, it's barely even science fantasy. With all the other crap in the series, you care about a finned robot who acts like a rebellious teen?

Go watch anime. You deserve it and anime deserves fans like you.

  13. Personal opinion -

Capcom did similar to what they did with Powered Up...
"We'll work on Bass AFTER the game has sold well."

Mega Man Powered Up bombed, so we got no Bass for the Powered Up series. Hell, Capcom even added half the Powered Up unlocks as DLC for MM9, so they can't deny it.

  14. I think they should bring him back in megaman 10 as playable character cause he is awesome and badass and megaman and bass was an amazing game.

  15. Uh... the only logical explanation for Bass absence in MM9 is that they couldn't figure out how he'd look in 8-Bit, since his first appearance was in a 16-bit game.

  16. 8-bit Bass does appear in MM9, so that is not the case.

  17. Why so much anger over Bass not being playable in 9? Or saying its just a cop-out for capcom to say he was under construction?

Think about it, Wily has been defeated, Megaman wins, but wait, on the screen flashes the ominous image of a foe yet to come. Clearly its FORESHADOWING the next game which will feature Bass. You guys aught to be excited about Bass making an appearance to foreshadow his arrival rather than upset that he was only in the game for a short scene.
