First Look at Street Fighter X Tekken's Roll

Mega Man's prologue from Street Fighter X Tekken has been revealed, chronicling the beginnings of the old man's journey to acquire Pandora. Roll makes an appearance, too. She's a bit, uh, different from what we're used to. Watch and see for yourself.

You gotta love the physical contrast between the two: one's tired and stubby, the other is beaming with youth and glamor. An interesting design choice, to say the least. I certainly wasn't expecting that.

Also, might I add, the cutscene has a few allusions to Mega Man Legends mythology. Mega Man's character bio hinted there would be some nods and it looks like they followed through. "Treasure hunting" and an "ancient man-made satellite" harkens back to two dominant plot elements from the series. Even Roll's personality seems to borrow some elements from her Legends incarnation... you know, the whole assertive thing.

But I'm not complaining. Not in the slightest.

EDIT: English version added. Enjoy!

Of course you're not complaining, you're not allowed to complain. And if you do, you're apparently not a "real" Mega Man fan.

haha! love that over the top acting <3

You know, at first I was raging like the rest of you nerds but now I don't even care anymore. This version of Mega Man is kind of amusing.

I like the remixes, that's the only positive thing I can say.

...That's just wrong.

I don't care what anyone says. That is absolutely hilarious! XD

@WGAS
It's a remix of Gutsman's theme, followed by a remix of the "Game Over" theme at the end, both from the first classic series game.

Nonsense. Ugh. What's wrong with Capcom ? Oh man!

Haha, is it sad that I like this Roll more than the regular one? :P

leave it to capcom to screw up big time...robots don't age so their whole "their older" excuse really isn't valid. I can live with rolls design but megamans is just terrible, come on capcom at least make him actually look like megaman. they could have just used the original megaman design and just gave him muscles like the 95 cartoon megaman if they absolutely had to add muscles to him.

I missed the part where robots started aging...

I hope BBA Megaman is brutally murdered by M. Bison at the end of his story :)

I suppose this would be the 1st appearence of bad box art Roll...

Capcom keeps trollin' n trollin'

Still, the over the top voice acting at least fits with their images well so it makes it pretty funny in the end. Good job on that, at least

I think its funny how the have to constantly capitalize the word "MEGA MAN" just to make sure we don't forget that the fatass is the blue and yellow spandex is Megaman.

God DAMMIT, Capcom.

Roll looks pretty, but her voice makes me miss ZX Advent's Aile. And that is saying a LOT...

Music was the best part, naturally.

*sighs* Still not happy with them teasing two games that were cancelled. I know they have the best of intentions, but really, any basic understanding of context would have told anybody that some alterations should have been made. Even if it was the 9/10 BBA Mega Man, or something.

Hey, I think it's funny. Since things are so bad for Megaman right now, all we can do is laugh, as the only alternative is to cry, which will get us nowhere.

His voice...
Mega Man's voice sounds familiar.

Somehow, overweight, down-on-his-luck Bad Box Art Mega Man has become a slightly endearing character for me because of this cutscene.

I don't understand why. o_o

Calling it. Pandora's Box will be used as a box cover for Mega Man.

woohoo thanks joseph

Anyone who is raging, or has ever raged from this is a straight up legends crybaby.

Prove me wrong.

@Cry baby anon.
No need bro.You just proved yourself to be an absolute idiot with a pathetic attempt of "come at me bro".You sir are loser of the day.

O.T. Why the hell is Roll's ribbon yellow?

wow I don't understand how can someone could be excited by this stupid joke

again f*ck capcom

I think for the boxart, they forgot he was a "robot". But then again, the Japanese one wasn't very convincing either. Therefore, that explanation was unexpected and fairly amusing.

I quite like this opening, BBA Megaman's voice makes me smile every time I hear it. And I don't think original Megaman would really fit in this game. X, maybe, but not original.

Copyman said...

Protodude I'm concerned. You seem to be confusing Legend Roll's character with Tron's character assassination of her.

did everyone read megaman official backstory?

all my facepalms to capcom

lolwut? This is funny.

What about Prometheus' Box?

@Dhylec: You mean "Good Box Art Roll"? XD

@mcwhalen
Aw, how cute, you're trying to act big towards an anonymous user.

Doesn't change the fact that people raged over this solely for the fact that they didn't get their precious game.

Joseph Collins said...

You know, the more I read the backlash of posts from this character, the more I realize something.

@Everyone that hates him
You are all taking this character way too seriously. He's supposed to be the Dan Hibiki of this game... but, you know, back when Dan Hibiki was Capcom's way of poking fun at SNK, rather than the developed character he is today. MEGA MAN isn't supposed to be either Rockman or Rock Volnutt. He's never supposed to have been either of them. He's always supposed to have been "the guy in the game box of Mega Man"; a funky amalgamation of mixed continuities and other silliness. Yes, it's a damn shame neither Mega Man Universe or Rockman Dash 3 are ever going to be released, but seriously... Get over it already. Pissing and moaning every time Capcom "uses Mega Man's name in vain" won't bring back the lost titles.

RADIX said...

@Joseph Collins: Sorry, but not everyone interprets things the same way.

And "get over MMU and MML3"? BBAMM promotes both of them, so we're reminded of both of them. Also, I don't remember anyone bringing either title up in this comments section before that one asshole showed up.

Anonymous said...

Wow. That's an amazingly bad analogy Joe. Assuming you really are trying to illustrate BBA as a self deprecation piece in good humor.

Dan Hibiki was posthumously invented in probably a semilegally motivated follow up to an aggravated SF2 staffer's drawing. Which was published as a promotional image at some stage of SF2's release. Clearly depicting Sagat murdering Robert Garcia wearing Ryo Sakazaki's clothes.

Dan's invention was less "poking fun", more of broadcasting enmity.

I can see why some of you guys hate this, but I still can't stop laughing. The voice acting is amazingly ridiculous, and Roll is definitely an exaggerated of Roll in Legend (just listen to her say, "Good luck, MEGAMAN!"). I mean, this might not be quite what we meant when we asked for Megaman in a game, but it doesn't mean we can't enjoy it. Maybe I'm just not taking things seriously enough, but loosen up, you guys.

megaman looks like crap in this game but the voice acting is hilarious and roll looks pretty hot in the cut scene.
