Rockman X DiVE Reaches 8 Million Downloads

Back in April 2020, Capcom Taiwan announced Rockman X DiVE surpassed the one million downloads milestone. Later on, at the beginning of 2021, it was Capcom Japan who reaffirmed that the game contributed heavily to their mobile division growth.

Now that the Steam version is out in North America, Capcom US wasted no time at all to put out a press release. It features an interesting nugget of info: the game has reached over 8 million downloads since 2020.

While number of downloads for a free-to-play game doesn't necessarily correlate with financial success, all the information we have available bodes well for Rockman X DiVE. The game will likely to stay operating for a few, if not more years to come.

Rockman X DiVE is on track to outlive its ill-fated predecessor, Rockman Xover. That game's service ran for around 2 years and 4 months. Rockman X DiVE will celebrate its 2 year anniversary this March.

Let's us know in the comments if you're currently playing the game!

  2. And hope for X9 dwindles with each download. (jk)

I played a bit of X Dive awhile back but quickly lost interest because of how grindy it was (which I suppose is the norm for these types of games).

    1. If anything, X DiVE would encourage higher sales of X9. Don't be so sure.

    2. Well, that particular comment was just meant to be an unfunny joke - parodying those who believe X Dive is preventing X9 from becoming a reality - but truthfully I can see both sides of this argument.

On one hand, Capcom sees there's interest in the series and may end up making an new mainline game as a result.
But on the other hand, they make so much money from X Dive as is so why even bother making a new one.

Guess only time knows for sure.

  3. Yep! Still playing X DiVE and enjoying it.

  4. I tried to play it on Steam, but noticed US wasn't a region option. When I picked "other", I the game restarted after telling me it's not available in my region. It is though, right?

    1. What??? X DiVE is absolutely not stopping a development of a future X9.

    2. you have a great point, but to be fair, X8 also could be described as a bad minigame collection with it having the worst levels in the franchise (Gigavolt is absolutely horrendous, for example, and so is Optic)

this makes me want to go back to 9, which may have been a bit too close to 2, but was a real new game through and through and had challenge. it didn't even cost that much!

      Delete
    3. Yea ride chaser stages are often no fun. Gigavolts was a dumpster fire...

good point, but i'd still say that X8 was the closest a platformer game in the series got to something like xdive before 2013 and onwards. not just the ride chasers, but also the enemy score stages like Optic and overly easy autoscrollers like Earthrock, while games like 9 (and 10 too) felt like they were fully focused on what they tried to be and were just fun games for a pretty cheap price. but yeah, X8 is definitely not as bad as xdive.

    6. I kinda liked x8s intermissions. Gave it some replay value. But it certainly isnt perfect.

    8. i personally disagree on X8 as i'd take X6 over X8 any day for many reasons, including controls, but you do have a point that most seemed to like it, especially since the game was sort of "modernized" visually. i've heard it sold really badly, which i find really weird, but hey, ZX sold badly too, and that was a DS megaman exploration game.

as for whether they'd leave sigma dead or not, no they wouldn't because it will still be defeated with X and Mother Elf and any other death before that is pointless due to Zero series canon. the entire reason why lumine was created is probably to replace sigma: think about it, is there any character difference between lumine and mhx sigma beyond one of them having a pseudo-biblical coat of paint? the reason sigma died is for another one to become the always returning villain... which failed.

    9. I'm not sure why other people liking something that you don't annoys you so much, but that definitely says more about you then the people enjoying X DiVE in peace lol. The old games never went anywhere, and X DiVE ain't a replacement for anything. Maybe you should just go back to playing those old games until X9 gets here so you can stop being so bitter about people's opinions? Idk that's what I would do.

Also, assuming that anyone who likes DiVE has never played an actual Rockman game is just annoying. You're not the most cultured guy in a room for not wanting to play a freaking video game, man. Maybe you could just learn how to see things from other people's perspectives instead of complaining about their tastes? Idk that's what I would do.

Do I even need to say it?

X DuMP is a valuable example of everything wrong in gaming. But you do you, dude, if you want more of it.

Someday very soon, folks are gonna learn the true value of money.

Currently playing harmony of dissonance with iX 2 next on my queue.

    17. Story and canon don't really hold much value. The gameplay itself is already more satisfying than X8, which did indeed feel like a collection of mini-games, specially with its pace-breaking loading rooms that added nothing to the game. They were a good opportunity to add fun enemy gauntlets, but they dropped the ball hard on that and is one thing X DiVE does miles better. And don't even get me started on X8's fetish for instant death, which only further ruins that game's pacing.

it's been 10 years since 10 and 5 years since 11 and there's still no sign of even the actual existence of any new game aside from a project name
      @Pants
for me they do. if i wanted a game with just gameplay, especially if the gameplay is just carried over from something else, why not hack/mod an already existing game with level design i myself would like? the instakill hazards are cool though, even if i hate x8's continue system.

    20. Gary,
I downloaded a demo of this COGEN game cause it has Gunvolt DLC. I'm gonna try that at some point.

I recommend Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth. That was a fun diversion.

      18 years since X8
      22 years since Legends 2

Let that sink in a bit.

    22. I did see that before and thought in some ways, looks like Castlevania: Symphony of the Night.

    23. Gary, its alot like SOTN, but shorter. Its a smaller game that acts as an epilogue to Lodoss War while bridging to a new book sequel that will never be in English. Its pretty fun though. And not too expensive.

8 year drought ended with an alright game that led to what is now a 5 year drought

you didn't think this through did you

    32. 11 was good but not great, factoring in the above. I liked it. The music was decent, the gear system was ok. The responsivity felt perfect at least to me. Bosses were interesting.

Points deducted for only two full end castle stages (the last two being real short) and wussing out on a masters name translation cause reasons. Having Blues and Forte present in some fasion would have been nice but not a huge deal.

      Still it was fun.

      Delete
    33. @Pants
i would argue against that, as at least 10 games from the original series are better, in my opinion, but ah well.

For me, I'd put MM5 at the bottom. It's always just been "there" versus the others which all seem to have a hallmark for me of some sort or another.
MM being the first game I owned and in the series
MM3 being the first I rented, played AND beat
MM4 being the first "sequel" I got to play and was excited for
MM6 being the first game I bought for myself
MM7 being the first SNES game
MM8 being the reason I bought a PlayStation
MM9 being the return to form, for what it is anyway
      MM10 having 3 playable characters
MM11 for being what it is

      MM5 always just existed.

    37. I know. R&f is a side story.
And sadly I still cant beat it... that 2nd king stage last boss gets me every time.

And mm2. Come on, its mm2.

      Delete
    38. "Anyways, maybe Mike should think how this could hurt most of us who want real MM and change the first part of his screen name too (calling himself idiot is odd). We have every right to complain, but my complaint was not targeting one person, his was intended to be personal."

You still haven't actually explained how this is hurting the series besides a borderline conspiracy theory about Capcom "getting lazy" and not making sequels if it gets too much positive reception. Even though the producer of Rockman 11 has said that the main reason an X9 hasn't happened is because money talks more then fandom with Capcom. So... wouldn't the success of X DiVE actually be a GOOD sign if what you actually want is an X9? I'm not even trying to be rude, your post just comes across is fear mongering over something that is actually going to probably benefit your cause in the long run? And that's even assuming Capcom treats X9 as a big deal to begin with, when for all we know they just see it as a quick buck.

All of that to say. Being the aggressive and vocal fan who's tired of waiting is literally just going to make you an extremely bitter person about the series in the long run. And I am speaking from experience about this, because I've been there multiple times. And it never benefitted me in a positive manner. Be frustrated that a new game didn't come out sooner, but don't let it dominate your headspace and constantly irritate you to the point that you have to make complaining about it something you do often. It doesn't grow the X fandom, it humiliates it. Just try to enjoy what X content we have and revel in that fandom with others, or find other things to fill the void.

Hence the whole, "those old games still exist" point I was making lol. Although I do apologize for being really aggressive before. It just kinda struck a nerve for me how you went onto a post specifically celebrating the game's success to complain about it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The sales data for recent collections and 11 (having sold over a million alone), Gacha isn't required to proceed.

    41. Right. X DiVE is simply a game to see how interested newcomers who bought the collections would be in a new game. With lots of fanservice for the hardcore enthusiasts.

It won't be the rebirth or death of X. We have to leave that up to 11 to decide. And I'm not sure if there's any official statements from Capcom about being pleased with 11's sales. But I'm not worried.

      Delete
    42. There absolutely are documents showing Capcom pleased with 11's sales. It's literally the second highest selling MM game. What's there not to be pleased?

  6. "While number of downloads for a free-to-play game doesn't necessarily correlate with financial success"

Not just financial success, it's also doesn't correlate with the game's success in general. More than 90% of the players drop a free mobile game after one hour or less.
And from the remaining gamers only a small portion of them actually pay for microtransactions
