Marvel vs. Capcom Origins Announced

Capcom has announced Marvel vs. Capcom Origins, a compilation of Marvel Super Heroes and the original Marvel vs. Capcom for Xbox Live and PlayStation Network.

Due in September, the game will feature graphical filters, GGPO net code online play, in-game achievements, 8-player lobbies, spectator mode, and replay saving. All this for $14.99 or 1200 Microsoft points.

If you're planning on attending EVO and/or the San Diego Comic-Con, you'll have the opportunity to play the game on the showroom floor. And if you can't attend, you'll be happy to hear Capcom Unity plans on streaming all the festivities live.

  1. Terribly unnecessary. Capcom needs to make new games, not HD ports.

  3. This isn't even an HD port, according to the article it just has filters. Plus, I didn't grow up with the first games, so I don't feel any sort of emotional bias towards them. It's also missing Marvel Super Heroes vs Street Fighter. This is more of a 5 for 10 dollar product.

  4. You guys are joking right?

MvC3 just came out last year. It's one of the several new games Capcom has released.

And these are far from unnecessary. Neither of these games are available to play in current home console hardware without having some sort of gimped version. The FBA emulator used for GGPO gives off some annoying graphical glitches and the replay and lobby features are very much welcomed. (GGPO spectating is stupid as it affects the gameplay and Supercade got rid of game specific lobbies). The best part is that these are updates to games that would normally never see a re-release due to the licensing issue.

Or are you guys just furious that it isn't a Mega Man game, like always.

  5. They're just angry because they suck at fighting games.

Even if Mega was in Marvel 3, they'd suck with him and dismiss the game or replace him with Wesker and Vergil, anyways.

  6. @Anon #3 and Amir: No, I think they're annoyed with Capcom putting out another pseudo-HD port (I don't think Okami HD is true HD, IIRC).

Myself, I'm indifferent towards this; I already have both games (though my copy of MvC2 is messed up; apparently, there's a way around that via burning ISOs?). I'm sure that many others will appreciate this, though.

  7. I don't know Cappy; the games have Mega Man in them, you SURE you don't want to cancel them?

  8. @Amir

No, they're mad at Capcom for treating MegaMan like dirt, not because they suck at fighting games.

Oh that's right, you're defending Capcom cause you think Capcom is the greatest video game company in the world. >_>

  9. Wait, MvC2 isn't part of this. D'OH.

As was brought up on TMMN, Capcom apparently blamed the poor sales of SFxT on fighting game over-saturation...yet they release more fighting games. Either they don't really believe the reason they gave, or they've learned nothing.

  10. For a second I thought "why wouldn't they include all of them?", specially since I loved the tightness and simplicity of the X-Men Vs Street Fighter roster, but then I realized, that would be horrible, it would segregate the userbase too much.

Either way, not interested! Already had my share of all-stars fighting games this generation, not gonna add on top of that more of the same thing but from past generations.

  11. Despite all the hate, that was a pretty good trailer. It got me pumped even though I can easily play both. And did anyone else appreciate the fact that, right after it said "Iconic characters", Mega Man appeared directly afterwards?

With that said, I can understand why a lot of people are angry, but it's not like this game is hurting Mega Man in any way. This is a port, so obviously CoJ is not using any of its dev power making this instead of a Mega Man game. Even though it is another sad sign that Capcom is releasing way too many fighting games, getting mad at an MvC rerelease is just being butthurt, IMO.

  12. lol fighting fans in a Mega Man news blog? trolling much?

Anyways...im not shocked about this nor angry...It just shows what's working with Capcom at the moment...fighting games both new and old...I wonder what will happen when they get in serious trouble and run out of ideas for fighting games...if they ever run out of them...

  14. [...] GGPO net code online play, [...] spectator mode, and replay saving [...]

... you have my full attention, Capcom. :D Though, you know what would be even better than that?

"X-Men and the Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter and Capcom: War of the New Age of Superheroes of the Atom". X3

No, seriously, Capcom. Make a "Hyper Street Fighter II" for the Marvel series. I'd love to be able to take the Silver Samurai against Tron Bonne, or put Colossus up against Ruby Heart. Huge bonus points if you manage to add the Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 roster in there, but of course, that would require new spritework. And we know how you guys are about making new sprites. ;3

  15. It's called Marvel vs. Capcom 2

  16. What the anon said Joseph, Marvel VS Capcom 2 is exactly that :P

  17. I wonder how much work it would take to make a DLC pack that reprograms MvC3 to emulate all the previous vs games.

  18. Origins?? Is this a joke, isn´t it? I think the proper title for this upcoming game should be "Marvel vs Capcom Remilked Edition".

No doubt Capcom is more evil than Microsoft.

  19. Seriously? People are complaining about this? Two great old fighters are getting a re-release and a slew of upgrades, for $15. Did it ever occur to anyone that: 1) No one is forcing you to purchase this. And I highly doubt it's diverting a high amount of resources from other projects. 2) Some people might find this convenient because they either don't own the original games or just don't want to play them on the original console. 3) The original games are expensive as hell. Unnecessary? Pfft. I reject the notion that any game is made for "necessity." Games are for fun. You shouldn't reject a port just because you don't want it. Someone else might, because they want to experience it again (or experience it for the first time).

They're both good games, they're paired together with the same good treatment that SFIII Third Strike Online Edition had.

"Needs to make new games?" Oh, I suppose Dragon's Dogma, which JUST CAME OUT, doesn't count as a new IP?

Just cut it out. This is absolutely ridiculous. I'm bummed by the lack of Mega Man announcements, but for crying out loud, stop acting like a bunch of martyrs.

I'm going back to reading my Mega Man comics.

Oh, and inb4 someone calls me out for "omg defending crapcom!!1"

  20. Personally, the only thing I find upsetting about this is that it doesn't include X-Men: Children of the Atom, X-Men vs. Street Fighter, and Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter. Otherwise... this is VERY relevant to my interests. Personally? I hate MvC2, but I looooove all the other games that came before it.

Also, I think I heard a remix of Captain America's theme in that trailer. Could it be that... these games will have an arranged soundtrack?! :D

It's possible, since I know SFIII had one. If so, that's more than enough reason for ME to be hyped!

  21. @MvC2-Anons
    ...

    It's missing U.S. Agent, Anita, Norimaro. 8D

Seriously though, you guys are right. Despite having played Marvel vs. Capcom 2, I somehow missed the fact that it has every single character from X-Men: Children of the Atom all the way to Marvel vs. Capcom. And since Capcom's already perfected that game with online play and such... I really can't complain. XD

  22. @July 6, 2012 2:32 AM: Just because we're not forced to buy it doesn't mean we can't be annoyed with the fact that Capcom's putting out another re-release.

I will concede that Dragon's Dogma recently came out...and point out that I think most of the commenters were referring specifically to Megaman games. Or at least "more original IPs than they seem to be releasing lately".

"No one is forcing you to purchase this."
So, as long as it doesn't involve me it doesn't matter how bad it is?

  24. In response to RADIX's comment over Capcom's 'experience' with SFxT...

This is a re-release, a re-release with new features yes, but a re-release all the same. It doesn't take a lot of time or money to do an improved re-release, so Capcom can allow themselves to be a little more risky with this. If the re-release blows, it won't have as much as an impact as SFxT's failure. I'm just stating the obvious though.

Or, like you said, they didn't learn.

    ReplyDelete
  25. @Dr. Jerk: OK, understood.

I'm still leaning towards "they didn't learn", but if they go awhile without releasing any fighting games, I'll retract that.

  26. It's unbelievable how you guys can complain about something like this, which is completely harmless to our fanbase. As one guy said, you'll just be angry at anything that isn't a MM game.

Personally, I won't be running to buy this. In reality, these games are pretty unbalanced. But I am happy to see them (also some Gambit). Oh, and MegaMan is pretty beastly in MvC1.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I dunno guys, I really like these games. I'd pay for an HD port of them. Better than firing up my buggy MAME emulator.
