"We'll Find Dr. Wowie."

Voice acting seems like a pretty straight forward job -- you read the lines (with effort) and get paid. Simple!  Well, not exactly.  As evident below, Mega Man 8 is a prime example of how not to do voice work.  Behold, Cripsy Gamer's "Greatest Moments In Voice Acting: Mega Man 8":

  1. I love this video, Protoman, and it's so accurate. I loved the animation used in Mega Man 8, but the voice acting in the English version of the game was downright pitiful. I'm not sure why they thought that Dr. Light needed to sound like Elmer Fudd, and, like you said, what was so hard about getting his lines right. What's even sadder is that the cut that we got in the game was the "best cut" they could do, so obviously Light's actor just sucked.

  3. Pfft, I love the intro. MM8's had its voice acting torn apart several times, but this one did a pretty good job of framing it in a different light.

  5. You know. Recently, I've just discovered that Ruth Shiraishi, the voice actress for Mega Man in 8 and X in X4, is now a realtor (or something) advertising lease terms in Japan. Click on my username for a video of her showing some parts of Japan. Listen to her, and you'll notice that she REALLY sounds like Mega Man!

No. Its not a Rick Roll video, I swear.

  7. @Protodude.

    No prob.

Also, if I'm not mistaken, she also sounds "eerily" like Rebecca Chambers from the very first Resident Evil game. At least to me.

Wow, really great find. I had to leave a comment, lol.

At least they didnt bash X7's voice acting like so many people clamor to do. Dr. Lights was pretty sad, but I think Ruth did a good job, despite giving Mega a girly sound. Duo and the rest were also good. I especially loved Wily. Really suiting.

  9. The one thing I will say about MM8's English voice acting is that Ruth's voice was a good choice for Rock. I mean, he is supposed to have the AI of a 10-year-old, so he'd certainly sound childish.
