Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection Steam Update Breaks Online Play (Update)

Capcom has released an update for the Steam versions of both volumes of Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection, primarily addressing behind-the-scenes adjustments. Unfortunately, the update has unintentionally taken the game's online functionality offline. Multiplayer battles, online trades, and other online features—including the ability to earn a specific completion star in BN2— have been down since yesterday, with no word from Capcom on the issue so far.

Fortunately, there are a couple of things you can do while waiting for an official fix. First, if you haven’t updated the game yet, head to your Steam settings and turn off auto-updates. Second, if your copy has already been updated, you can use a quick workaround. Prof9 has shared the following tip:

  • Open the Steam Console by pressing Win+R and entering steam://open/console.
  • Run these commands:
    • Volume 1: download_depot 1798010 1798011 6583874429443952093

    • Volume 2: download_depot 1798020 1798021 7279312862268001028
  • Once the files are downloaded, copy them over the game’s local files.

This should get the online functionality back up and running. We’ll keep you posted as soon as Capcom provides an official fix.

UPDATE: Capcom has rolled back the online-breaking update. Allowing Steam to update the game will restore it to the previous working version.

Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection Tops 1.42 Million Units Sold

Three months ago, Capcom announced that Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection (Vol.1+Vol.2)  sold 1.32 million units as of June 30, 2023. In their latest financial report for the second quarter of fiscal year 2023, Capcom has now confirmed that the collection has achieved 1.42 million units in sales as of September 30, 2023.

While it's not too big of a jump from the previous report, it's worth noting that Capcom has only recently started to include the title in discount campaigns. This strategy is expected to lead to a steady and gradual growth in sales, similar to what was observed with Mega Man 11.

As of now, Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection still trails behind Mega Man 11 (1.80 million units) and Mega Man 2 (1.51 million units) in terms of sales, but it has rapidly secured the third best-selling selling Mega Man title, surpassing Mega Man Legacy Collection 1 (1.40 million units).

What's more? The Mega Man franchise as a whole jumped from 40 million units to 41 million units sold thanks to Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection's strong sales.

Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection Tops 1.32 Million Units Sold

In their consolidated financial results for the 1st Quarter of fiscal year 2023, Capcom announced that Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection (Vol.1+Vol.2) has sold 1.32 million units as of June 30, 2023.

On April 27, Capcom reported 1 million units sold within two weeks following the title's release. Today's update confirms that, from April 27 to June 30, the collection sold an additional 320k units.

As of now, Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection is the 5th best selling game in the franchise following Mega Man 11 (1.70 M), Mega Man 2 (1.51 M), Mega Man Legacy Collection (1.40 M) and Mega Man Battle Network 4 (1.35 M). At this pace, it is well on its way to the top.

Further, thanks in large part to Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection's outstanding performance, the Mega Man franchise as a whole jumped from 38 million units to 40 million units sold. A remarkable and well-deserved achievement at last.

Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection Japan Sales Report April 17-April 23

Due the stock shortage announced last week, the Japanese version of Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection didn't shine exactly as bright as it did during its debut. A natural drop was expected.

For the week between April 17th to April 23rd, Famitsu reports that the Nintendo Switch version sold 6,342 units charting at #5. This brings the physical Switch version in Japan to a total of 58,717 units without counting the download card version.

The PlayStation 4 version didn't enter the top 10 best selling games this week. It remains to be seen if the PS4 version will rank among the top 30 titles for the week when that data is released later.

If we combine the current data for the physical Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 versions, the Legacy Collection has sold 71,709 units in Japan.

As of a few days ago, the game is back in stock throughout Japan following a nation-wide sell-through. It will be interesting to see how sales progress next week. Stay tuned!

Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection Tops Japan Sales Charts (Updated)

Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection launched worldwide on April 14th. Roughly a week later, the first sales report has come out from Japan - and it's looking good.

For the week between April 10th to April 16th, Famitsu reports that the Nintendo Switch version has sold 52,375 units charting at #1 and the PlayStation 4 version charted at #5 selling 7,871 units. Basically, the collection sold approximately 60,246 units in three days, selling more than all Mega Man X Legacy Collection versions (1, 2 and 1+2 bundle) combined and Mega Man 11 in a similar period of time (in Japan).

This number only accounts for physical sales in Japan. Worldwide digital and physical sales have yet to be disclosed but this bodes well overall. MMBNLC could be on track to become the next million seller in the Mega Man franchise.

Stay tuned for updates.

UPDATE: Famitsu has released an expanded sales chart that covers the top 30 best selling games instead of top 10. Battle Network Legacy Collection has sold an additional 5,121 units thanks to the download cards released for Nintendo Switch of Vol.1 and 2. The download card that packs both volumes together didn't chart inside the top 30.

The final number for the first three days are 65,367 units sold.

Masakazu Eguchi Famitsu Interview - MMBN Legacy Collection and Franchise Future

It's been a long time since the Mega Man series graced the cover of a mainstream video game magazine. We have to go all the way back to 2018 when Mega Man 11 took the spotlight in Game Informer issue 297. However, now, with the release of Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection release, the series has captured the attention of Weekly Famitsu.

The magazine's latest issue features a spectacular cover story that includes a new piece of artwork, a 20-page feature and a special new interview with Battle Network Legacy Collection lead Masakazu Eguchi. In it, he looks back upon the series and the collection's development. He also briefly touches on the potential future.

You can check out the cover and read an English translation of the interview below! Many thanks to our friend Windii for the translation!

Capcom Cafe and Rockman EXE Collab Announced

From March 24 to April 27, Capcom Cafe in Ikebukuro and Umeda will be hosting a collaboration event with the Rockman EXE series featuring special themed menus and goods.

The main visual, which you can see above, was drawn by official Capcom Japan staff. Additional announcements regarding the kind of goods and menu items are forthcoming.

Judging by the products released in 2018 when Capcom Cafe collaborated with the Rockman series prior to the launch of Mega Man 11, we can probably expect clear files, coasters, stickers and other miscellaneous knick-nacks.

If you happen to be around Tokyo or Osaka during event, you can reserve your seat(s) at the Capcom Cafe by following the instructions here.

The album will be published by Capcom's music label, Suleputer, on April 19th for 2,750 yen. A few days after the game launches.

The soundtrack description reads: "Memorable songs from each title in the collection are brought back to life with new arrangements!"

e-Capcom has confirmed that the album will contain 22 tracks

Four of these arranged tracks were previously confirmed as pre-order bonuses for the collection itself. Pre-ordering Vol.1 will net you Hometown (Pop Rock Version), Shooting Enemy (Dance Version) and Vol. 2 Liberation Mission (Piano Version) and Central Town (Kawaii Future Bass Version). These tracks will be added to the in-game music player.

Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection Will Be at Tokyo Game Show 2022

Capcom have announced that they will showcase Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection next month at Tokyo Game Show 2022 (the first in-person TGS since the start of the pandemic!)

Capcom will air a pre-recorded stream on September 15 at 7:00 PDT/16:00 CEST as part of their TGS Online Experience. The stream is planned to run for around 50 minutes and will feature the latest news. If Capcom are preparing to reveal more details about the collection, you can expect it to happen here.

Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection will also be playable at Capcom's booth at the Makuhari Messe convention center from September 15 to 18. The media and general public will have the chance to play the game, so hopefully we'll get some impressions and extra footage.

After the relatively bare-bones announcement in June, fans are hopeful to learn about any extra game modes and - fingers crossed - a much needed online mode. We can probably expect a release date at the very least.

Time will tell if this is the right venue. Stay tuned to Rockman Corner for all the Battle Network Legacy Collection news during TGS!

Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection Development is 50% Complete

Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection's announcement in June was met with a lot of positivity... and several unanswered questions. Many fans were left concerned due to the apparent lack of features (online multiplayer?) and games modes.

Now, thanks to the latest issue of Famitsu, we can say with certainty that the game is exactly 50% completion. That would explain why Capcom set a very vague 2023 release, let alone few in-depth details about the collection's content.
