MM10 Bass Official Artwork, Screens

Japanese gaming site Famitsu has gone and done a report on Mega Man 10's forthcoming third playable character, Bass. The article features two pieces of art and a couple screens of the Blue Bomber's arch rival in action. Check them out below:

According to the article, Bass can angle his shots in seven directions and perform a speedy "dash" maneuver. No double jump this time around! He'll will be made available to download on April 5th for a cool 200 Nintendo Points.

  1. Bass looks badass, i love his artwork really old school.

  2. Sadly I thought I'd be more excited when Forte was announced a while back.
    And I'm not.
I just can't find any love for 8-bit. I'm sorry, but even Mario Bros for the Wii had nostalgia shoved up the pooper and still managed to not be NES freakin' graphics. Fine, MM9 came and went (and to me was a huge waste of $10 to the point I'd return it if it wasn't DLC), but they could have done something special other than copy/paste the same engine and "ROM hack" it? e_e You couldn't pull Rockman and Forte style? or something that wasn't so painful to look at? So far all I've managed to see out of the series is making the nostalgia fanboys happy. I've never heard of one person who came into the series late, like me, who's even been remotely interested in it.. unless someone here can say otherwise.

  3. Well, my brother, for one, absolutely hates MM7 and 8 to the point where he says they don't exist. He wasn't really into the series until 9 came out.

  4. This is the first time Bass has been drawn in the Mega Man 4-6 style. His artwork no longer looks out of place with the rest of the characters.

With that being said though, his sprite appears to be little more than a Mega Man Palette swap. They could've at least tried to make him look a little different from Mega Man. Proto Man's similarity to Mega Man is excusable, because he is a prototype, after all. Not very impressive, in my opinion.

Aside from all of this, Bass being a playable character in an 8-bit styled game is still a great addition.

  5. Awesome artwork for Bass. Finally he gets some Pre-MM7 style artwork. Like Ninjadog said; old school. :D

People who hate or dislike MegaMan 7 or 8 have nothing but closed minds. MegaMan 7 and MegaMan 8 gloriously took MegaMan to each succeeded platform and adapted the capabilities well. I personally am still waiting for a MegaMan sequel which does something complete new again, a next level. Sadly, I will probably never get that because there are silly people that still consider MegaMan to be best in 8-Bit. That is just not true. As Tcat said above, Mario progressed in many different styles and still kept things fresh and even nostalgic at the same time. Simply put, MegaMan 9 and 10 did nothing more than recycle the same formula. In my opinion, MM10 is worth $10...maybe not even that. Which is why I got mine through "other means". I want to buy a new age MegaMan title and feel the same rush and satisfaction of money well spent, not money spent on more of the same. I repeat: MM9 was fine, but MM10 pushed the 8-Bit factor too far. If MegaMan 11 or whatever becomes 8-Bit, it will be an official sign that Capcom/Inafune is insane.

Ahhh but thats the magic phrase... "Late into the series" We are used to the prettier graphics of the PSX megaman era. (thats what i came into Megaman to)
and I agree, that there are many ways to make something nostalgic without rehashing Megaman 2 over and over again. But about Bass.
What do you expect? its not like they can make his sprite any more different when its only 8 bits, and he is mostly black.

I wish they would try something NEW with classic Megaman.

  8. I love how a lot of people were baffled at how Bass looked. I mean, Mega Man 9 ending anyone? >_>

Anyway, he looks great. Glad to see him finally get the 8-bit treatment. Now we wait for Duo to be "DLC" in MM11. :D

@Tcat: I came into the series at Mega Man 8. I love that game I love NES Mega Man as well. LOVE LOVE LOVE IT. :D Come to think of it, the only Classic MM game I've played, but didn't fully enjoy was Mega Man and Bass.

I got into the classic series through Mega Man 7, and I still found myself thoroughly enjoying the 8-bit titles (with Mega Man 3 being my personal favorite out of the six NES games).

    >a huge waste of 10 dollars

Excuse me, but who remembers when a cartridge game of this length was $65 dollars, in the mid-80's? It's laughable that anyone could possibly whine about the price of a $10 dollar game - what would you rather spend that 10 bucks on? A pack of socks?

As for coming late into the series, my first Megaman game was Megaman Legends. My first Megaman "classic" game, was Megaman 8. I love the 8-bit style. It's not about nostalgia, it's about gameplay and replay factor instead of making something look pretty.

Not two days later and people are whining about the price. get a job

Well, actually, Bass' similarity to Mega Man can be excusable, too, as Bass was always supposed to be an evil version of Mega Man. He even has Treble, an evil version of Rush. He is to Mega Man what Wario is to Mario or Shadow is (or at least used to be) to Sonic.

  13. @Tcat: To disprove your initial statement, I started the series with Mega Man X as a kid. However, the reason I can enjoy the 8-bit titles is because I often consider how much effort was put into the game. Something like X6 and X7 definitely shows how the formula could go wrong without the proper care. Unlike most people, though, I can really appreciate MM7 and MM8 because of how much thought was put into both titles. Similarly, although the 8-bit titles are in no way nostalgic to me, they're still fun because I can see how much work they actually put into the game.

I guess you can say I'm just optimistic towards the games (I'm not a blind fanboy, though, because I can pick out the flaws as well). But initial impressions tend to affect people's judgment and amount of enjoyment from a game. A thought to consider...

I will agree, though, that we need to move on from this 8-bit phase. I enjoyed it while it lasted, but it's time to move on.

  14. I hope that the 3 Mega Man Killer bosses of the Special Stages get new artwork too. And of Ballade's second form too, that would be the best.

  15. I personally like the 8-bit Bass sprite from Rockman 7 FC (the fan made, 8-bit remake of Mega Man 7) more than the one here.

This one looks too much like Mega Man's sprite (mostly in the body), I think Bass should look a little more sleeker. It's still good though, just a personal preference.

What I really don't like is his colours for robot master weapons. It's the same as Mega Man (2 colour change) and some weapons just make him look weird (triple blade is the worst imo). Should have stuck with how it was done in MM&B.

  16. @Tcat: Quit assuming that the love of these new games is only fueled by nostalgia. I got into the series around Battle Network 3. Yes, that means that Mega Man 1-8, Mega Man and Bass, the majority of the X series, and several Zero games were out by the time I joined the fun. Also, the first game systems that I personally owned were a GBA and a GameCube, so I had no bias towards the 8-bit generation.

Guess what? I was introduced to the classic series by Anniversary Collection and while I love MM7 to pieces, the 8-bit saga will always be my favorite. I just found them to be well-designed with simple but charming graphics, finely-tuned gameplay, and kickass bleeps and bloops. Even after playing pretty much every main game in the entire franchise over the course of about five years, the 8-bit games have always been my favorite.

Find me a job that will hire me and I'd gladly take it. In the meantime I live in the middle of no where and jobs here are scarce. I'm also squeaking by on pennies right now and I may lose my house. Personally a pack of socks would get me farther than MM9 had. I've NEVER spent $65 on a game save for one or two in my life and those have recently come out on 360. I don't always jump on new releases, even when I had a job and even then I generally buy used because I can afford it.. I simply took a chance on 9 and regretted it, nothing more than that.
As for everyone else.. thank you for at least being civil in your answers. I only have one friend who grew up with the classic 8-bit who's nuts on it. Everyone else would rather play R&F or the X series.. like me.

  18. I don't know but Megaman 10 feels the nostalgic of Megaman 2 I think because of the music and Bass looks ok to me I guess...

  19. Bass 8-bit graphic is simple I think they made it that way so everyone can feel 8bit classic if they made it more better design of it its gonna be different from Mega and Proto....

  20. Like I've said in other articles here.

It's pretty sad that all Rockman fans have looking forward to, at the current time:

-Two GBA ports (EXE OSS and Zero Collection)
    -An NES game/ROM Hack of RM9 (RM10)
-A shitty cell phone shooter (Rush Marine)

And honestly, it IS the fans' fault for it. If you all didn't bitch so much about SSR and ZX, they wouldn't have died so quickly. Notice how anything Capcom does with Rockman now is just rehashes of the older things. >_>

  21. @Saito:

If those series weren't garbage, then people wouldn't have any reason to complain about them. Also, if you had read the comments on the Rush Marine news post, you would have seen that no one was impressed by what they saw. Most likely, if anyone had any plans of buying that, then they've officially gone down the drain.

Lastly, did you forget that people are looking forward to these games, too?

    -Mega Man X9
    -Mega Man Legends 3
    -Mega Man: Powered Up 2
    -Maverick Hunter X
-Mega Man Mania (Assuming that they had any plans whatsoever of releasing it.)

    ReplyDelete
  22. ...Whoops, I meant "Maverick Hunter X2". My mistake.

  23. @ Krazy Monkey

Not that I agree with Saito's mentality, but I sort of understand what he's saying about ZX and Star Force.

I've seen that these two series, along with what Legends was like about a decade ago, probably have the most amount of undeserved hate among the entire Rockman francise.

Undeserved being that the large majority of the hate appears to be from people who immediately judged the series to be bad, without having played any of the games in the first place.

Pfft, do you seriously think they're ever gonna come out?

They're not coming, all of their prequels sold like shit, and that's the only thing that Capcom cares about.

Notice how RM10 came out not even a year after RM9, only because of "success," which is just another word for sales.

Now all these other games above? Their predecessors sold terribly, especially the PSP ones. And honestly, there's no way in hell they're gonna make a Rockman DASH 3. People just have to suck it up and accept it already. >_>

If you're so poor and hard on cash, what are you doing buying video games? It's a want, not a need. lmao

  26. &Saito:

Alright, I'll admit. You DO have a valid point, but I seem to remember Inafune saying before that he does plan to eventually make X9. Also, during Mega Man's 22nd Anniversary back in December, he said that Mega Man: Powered Up 2 has a strong chance of happening, despite the low sales.

I bought my 360 when I had a job. I haven't bought a game in over a year because I can't afford it right now. I budget and scrimp and save otherwise.

  28. I think the reson capcom doesn't want to change the graphics is because they worrys that how megaman will look will dived the fan base.

You're saying the fanbase isn't already divided? >_>

Rockman fans go like this, it seems from my observation.

-The ones that only like the 8-bit games/2D platformer games.
-Ones that like all of them and find something to like for any Rock game.
-Ones that got into Rockman thanks to EXE, but will commit suicide before they ever touch an SSR game.

  30. Personally, Im 15 and just got into the series. Beat 1-10 (And megaman and bass). All very good games, and as long as the game play is fun graphics dont matter. The ui of the game is easy tovaigate, plenty o' weapons, and good 8 bit music. The only fault I find is that its to easy on normal. Although megaman 9 was redicuosly hard.
