"Cryodrone" App Features a Shameless Mega Man.EXE Rip-Off

"Cryodrone: The Flying Jet Robot" is a free game currently available on the iOS App Store and Android Market. As you can see from the above images, it features characters bearing more than a passing resemblance to Mega Man.EXE. The game itself shares nothing in common with Battle Network -- but jiminy crickets, it sure is rubbish.

Ugly sprites, looping music, in-game ads... this one has it all. The real kicker is the option to play as other "characters", which are nothing more than recolors of the same guy. Naturally, they cost real money to use. Yeah, no thanks.

Shady titles are all but common on digital store fronts. Until some actual quality control is set in place, all we can do is blow the whistle and try to get this stuff out of sight.

  1. They used the only publicly available 3D model of Rockman.EXE I've been able to find. Not even that good.

  2. At least it's better than Xov-*Shot*

Yeah, that's a piece of crap right there.

  3. Could be worse... the other day a game was discovered where the devs used a legitimate Yoshi model and left it untouched. And when they were called out, they claimed they didn't know it was Yoshi.

  4. A rip-off of a rip-off... Makes sense in a "Disney steals from Dreamworks" kinda way.

Let's keep our rage and frustration aimed at Capcom, shall we?

  5. Megaman.EXE is a ripoff? Of what? Pokemon? Because that argument never held water.

  6. Oh my God, my fucking eyes hurt...

Maybe it's just the chili pepper that I accidentally scratched into my eyes, but I wouldn't put much of a bet on that.

  7. @9:31 PM: Don't worry the Anon above you is just a mindless fanboy that plagues this fanbase. If you were to ask em how BN ripped-off Pokemon he'd be like 'herp derp uhmmmmm they both have two versions of the same game, oh and you collect things'. Or ask the same for Tron-the other leading comparison, 'ermmm they both use computers and avatars.

Then say Pokemon is a blatant rip-off of Dragon Quest V, except with the three things that would break a traditional turn-base RPG. Trading and competing to get things early that you shouldn't, lack of a substantial story, and massive amounts of grinding. You'd get a 'your crazy' reply 'Pokemon was "inspired" by DQ' they are very different.

  8. It's a rip-off of a rip-off of a rip-off. No, I'm just joking. XD I have never played BN so I wouldn't know, but from what I've seen it doesn't look like a rip-off of anything I know of. O.o

This game, however, looks like trash. :| I can understand being inspired, but this is just full-blown unoriginal. And those graphics! What the hell?

  9. I've once applied for a job at an iOS game company called Present Creative in San Francisco. Upon coming to their interview room, I saw this "mascot" character on their door:

Seems like the iOS world isn't too kind to Mega Man.
