Mega Man 11 is Playable on Steam Deck, MMX Legacy Collection 2 Isn't

With Valve's Steam Deck around the corner, the number of "Verified" games has naturally increased. And out of the many Mega Man games from the Steam Library, Mega Man 11 is the first to be Verified. In other words, it's fully compatible with the device.

Conversely, only one other Mega Man game has been deemed incompatible: Mega Man X Legacy Collection 2. Valve's Deck Testing indicates that the game may not function properly, if at all. It remains to be seen if this is a temporary setback or something that can be amended in the future. But for this initial launch period, X Legacy Collection 2 is a no-go.

As we wait to hear back from the remaining Mega Man games, you can keep tabs on other Deck-supported software via SteamDB

  1. Eh, no hate on X5-X8, but I'd take X-X4 over them any day.

  2. Steam is cool. Thought about buying the Zero collection on Steam, even though I already have it, just to do a music mod to use the Remastered tracks. I always loved them.

I'd like them to put Wily Wars on Steam. Just got the physical copy. I don't have a Sega, and I want to keep that think MIB I think cause it's too nice. That would let me play it.

Capcom has a bunch of music on Steam too, if you want soundtracks to Mega Man, Resident Evil, Breath of Fire and so on.

    1. Since you already own the physical copy of Wily Wars, I don't see why it would be wrong to emulate it since you legally own it, if you desire to play it of course.

    2. I wanna specifically play the version just released, as it is. I dont know whats different.

Emulation isnt my thing. I wanna pay for my goods. But I wanna pay for something with actual value. Thats important.

    3. I emulate it whether own it or not. Especially with older games, I doubt anyone cares, and I certainly don't feel a bit bad about it. Since Rockman and Forte SNES version is not on steam, I just put it on an emulator and downloaded the translation patch. Used to own the GBA version in 2003 though and a proper translation patch file can be tricky to find. In some ways, the SNES version only released in Japan is better.

    4. I bought the Zero collection just to be able to mod the high quality music in and it was absolutely worth it. Makes the games SO much better and I'm still annoyed Capcom doesn't have it in as an option by default.

  3. After played the Improved (romhacking) versions of X3 X4 X5 X6 it is impossible for me to return to the originals
Also X8 PC original PC version is much better than the collection one

I know what you mean, my ideal head cannon version of X6 is and forever will be the romhack. Everything, from the imrproved gameplay, to the much better dialogue just makes it feel like this is the fully “realized” version to an otherwise awfully rushed game. Massive kudos to the people who worked on it, they made the impossible possible - lol

i personally prefer the original heavily, aside from the dialogue since the original US translation was horrible, but i do see why you prefer the hack. agreed on the kudos to the people who worked on it - the amount of possible tweaking and options in the hack is outstanding, even compared to behemoths like Sonic 3 Complete.

Fair enough! I personally have no issues with X8 mysefl, aside from dynasty (even if DID finally get the hang of it without dying on on first try lol). I LOVE sonic 3 but never bothered to check any romhacks - I’ll give it a look!

And yes, the dialogue definitely makes the story not only make better sense but just…reads better obviously. Though I wish they rewrote the scene of Zero’s arrival more closer to the Japanese version, where he had idea how he was revived. Instead, they just wrote a fancier version of “I hid myself while I repaired myself”. But still so well done regardless.

  4. it probably has to do with whatever type of emulation megaman x7/x8 is running

    1. They should have included the original PC versions, are much better, supports 4k and 16:9 and have HD assets, ahh and it is multilanguage

  5. that's a shame, i like X5-6, and X7 LC2 is the only normal way to play the game unless you play the PS2 version, since the Korean PC port is a broken mess, even if possibly way more flexible in terms of modding and resolution. though, as others have pointed out, X8's 2004 PC release is way better than the LC2 ver.

    1. X7 LC2 runs at a higher resolution than X7 PS2 and functions similarly to the PS2 ver while the Korean PC port has quite a few bugs, only runs on Korean versions of Windows without tweaks and is also a pain to get running on a modern PC. X8 PC has support for multiple languages to be used (LC2 also has that, though) and all the textures in the game are higher resolution than PS2 or LC2, which is why if you force X8 PC to run on a high resolution, the Jakob Elevator's space background will look pretty good, while X8 LC2's will look odd, since what looked fine on a PS2 will look like a few pixels on X8 LC2. plus, both X7 and X8 PC can work in true widescreen, showing more of the level on screen than any other version can. X8 PC also included some wallpapers and a few X8-themed clock programs.

    2. The LC2 X7 one felt about the same as the PS2, at least. Also I don't know if PS2 version lets you, but you can switch it to Japanese voice actors in the collection, so the voices sound better. I did have too much slowdown in X1-X4 collections, but read that I can modify the config file in steam of that game through notepad and make it read only, like telling it to use less cores or the number of frames, etc, and that seemed to fix it. Use borders and no stretch so the sprites look better than otherwise, but the bilinear filters kind of look like crap, so just keep the pixels.
