Mighty No. 9 Gets Challenge Mode (Thanks, PayPal Funding!)

Thanks to an additional $17,000 in PayPal funding, the Mighty No. 9 Kickstarter has rocketed to $2.4 million, allowing Challenge Mode to be achieved! This mode is said to be taking a page from New Super Mario Bros. U, wherein parts of existing levels will be remixed to create dozens of mini-missions. It's certainly bound to up the game's replay value quite a bit.

So, what's next? If we can hit $2.55 million, we'll unlock an extra stage and final boss. Once that goal is achieved, the MightyCast says we'll also see more details on those mystery goals (???). Keep at it, folks!

    1. It's going on Wii U. Technically that is Next Gen!

    2. 99% chance it isn't going next gen. Considering the huge money boost that we thought would happen if current gen got funded never appeared, it's safe to assume that at this point, the money pool has pretty much dried up. It also doesn't help that kickstarter is going nuts with good games this month.

    3. WiiU is not next gen, is not about the year of release of a console, it's about the capacity of it, and the WiiU is only slightly better/powerfl than PS360, a machine that can't run the latest Frosbite engine like PS4 and XONE is not a next gen console.

    4. I'm sure next gen ports will happen eventually even if it doesn't get funded, it'll just have to wait until they have enough sales from the other versions to cover the costs.

    5. @TekkZero:

Console generations are not defined by horsepower. It is hardware released in a given market in a given set of years.

Next gen, the 8th gen, includes 3DS, Vita, PS4, XOne and yes, Wii U.

"WiiU is not next gen, is not about the year of release of a console"

Umm...it is *completely* about the year of the console. It followed the Wii, therefore it is part next generation of Nintendo consoles along with the 3DS.

    7. I sure hope you guys still believe a WiiU is a Next Gen console once 2015 comes and all of the big multiplataform games coming out for PC, PS4 and Xbox One are impossible to run on it.

    8. You really are set on that aren't you? It's next gen, deal with it. Thinking in terms of power and graphics is backwards and is one of the things causing so many problems in this industry. Now get off your high horse.

  4. If I'm honest, I don't really care about Call co-op or next gen consoles. If this reaches the extra stage and boss, the game is pretty much complete for me.

  5. With only 9 days left, I don't really think it's going to reach the other stretch goals, or what else that's left to be unveiled. Unless it still can get backers after that, I don't really know how Kickstarter works exactly.

    1. Yeah it's rather obvious you don't know how Kickstarter works, the last few days tend to have a rush of final donations.

Sometimes goals that weren't even close to being funded will end up getting funded in just the last few hours. Skullgirls meeting it's final stretches and Armikrog getting funded at all are some recent examples.

  6. I do have to voice one concern with the current stretch goals.

By the time the game is out in 2015 (according to estimations), will the PS3 and X360 downloadable markets still be going, or will the plug have been pulled by Sony and Microsoft to get developers to focus more on their (in 2015) current machines?

That said, it's always awesome to see this project do well in terms of funding, but I think that may be a potential snag.

    1. Sony won't. Remember the PS2 lived a long ass time, and Sony says the PS3 will go through the same thing. Wouldn't be surprised if Xbox does though.

  7. S-seventeen thousand??? On a $2mil KS?

Geez. No wonder WayForward is reluctant to implement PayPal in its Shantae KS.

  8. So if I donate on Paypal would that mean I get the regular reward (art book etc)?

    1. Pretty sure you can get the rewards that aren't limited is what the site means.

Which is to say you can't get any of the rewards above 500 dollars.
