Mighty No. 5 Blasts Onto the Scene!

The Mighty No. 9 Kickstarter has pulled the wraps off of a previously unseen boss: Mighty No. 5. Number 5 (not to be confused with this guy) sports a military motif utilizing heavy artillery. He's big, heavy, and means business. Just look at all those guns!

Additionally, director Koji Imaeda brings a behind-the-scenes look at Number 5's development. You can read all about it right here. There's plenty of concept art to see, so do give it a look at your earliest convenience.

Also of note, Comcept promises new boss reveals every Monday. Number 5 was meant to be shown earlier this week, but with the holiday and excitement surrounding the campaign hitting its initial goal, they thought it would be better to hold the big guy back.

Head over here for all the details!

  1. Looks like something out of battle network.

  3. Design's a bit too busy for my tastes; the Inti-Creates concept art looked a lot better, but I can see why they didn't go with that.

  4. Man it's like if Napalm Man just didn't know when to stop, in a good way.

  5. I kind of have to agree that they divert away from more humanoid designs. At first I wasn't too keen about it when I saw No. 2, but I can see why now. It wouldn't be good if the designs were too reminiscent of MM boss designs. And some difference is good.

Although I do hope that the bosses are given some other names, even just as a secondary codename or something. I don't think it would be easy to memorize them by number alone.

  6. I prefer the creepy green guy, but this one is fine too. I kinda like the idea of trying to get a bit away from the humanoid designs. Well as long as it doesn't get TOO fancy

  7. You should have said Mighty No. 5 is alive!

I like the design, and the id numbers for the characters (such as Beck being 9) It's reminiscent of the old MM IDs, but seemingly more important.

  8. Wow, what in the world is this?

    This is ridiculous!

Then again, to appeal to kids who mostly want shooters and smartphone games, hell, this might be what you have to do!

    1. Oh come on. MM had its far share of crazy Robot Master designs.

    2. And I'm not saying some of them weren't silly. Hardman, Brightman, Needleman, but at least they were kinda endearing.

This robot just looks slopped together. And not well. Especially in contrast to the ninth sibling which is identifiably humanoid and coherent.

    3. Except what if Beck is the only one humanoid for a reason? Neither of the other number models we've seen so far look very humanoid either. We're told that they're industrial robots created to serve certain practical purposes. In that case, why should the majority of these models bare a humanoid resemblance when baring such a resemblance would have no real use to their purpose? No. 5, or 'Gatling Man' as I will call him for simplicity sake, appears to have been designed with the purpose of a war machine. No. 6 to serve as a sentiment helicopter, and No. 2 to... IDK, provide water and ice? There's no reason then for them to have a humanoid appearance. Beck is the only one who does, and maybe it was because his original industrial purpose did require a humanoid face for people to relate to. IDK, maybe he works as one of those talking robots that greet people in Japanese air ports. Ha ha, jokes aside. But in all seriousness, Beck is probably the only one because you get to play as him, and having a humanoid face is vital for the player to relate to. And of course the robot girl Call, since I assume she helps you in the game, more than what Roll has ever done for us.

But I'm just saying. Yes Mighty Number 9 is clearly based and inspired by MM in all aspects, but that still doesn't make it *A* MM game. Meaning it shouldn't have to be the same as MM. It's time to move on essentially, and to leave the typical MM expectations out of this. It's heavily based on MM, but it is not MM.

Also the designs frankly remind me of Battle Network's artistic design, and I don't see anyone complaining about those.

  9. How do you make this picture bigger and higher quality ? I tried those pics that came with .jpg (I like png but they used .jpg) and when I enlarge them and I got blurry pics ? :(
