Street Fighter X Mega Man Now Available (For Free)

It's official: Street Fighter X Mega Man is now available for download from Capcom Unity's Mega Man hub. As stated before, the game is entirely free to play. It's PC exclusive for the time being, so if you're a Mac user now might be the time to invest in BootCamp or something along those lines.

Remember: Capcom are watching that download ticker closely. The more support Street Fighter X Mega Man has, the better. It's free, people. You've got nothing lose! Download it now!

  1. DL speed is so sloooooooooooow.

I guess everyone downloading it and once really bogged their servers.

  2. It's epic, thanks capcom....!

  3. No saving I can understand, that makes extra files.

    But not even passwords?

Also you can't slide through boss doors. Shameful.

  4. 2GHz, 1GB, DX9? Was this programmed with a potato?

  5. I tried 2 servers. Well, I can't say that my internet connection is perfect but when speed dropped from 7 to 0 KBps, it's difficult to preserve the wish not to download somewhere else. Maybe they should have considered to add torrent download?

  6. It is a slow download, but it'll be worth it.

p.s. - going after Dhalsim first. I refuse to be bowed by who they call the hardest of the initial eight.

  7. Download was fast for me. The game is very Mega Man 1-ish, cept you get charge shot, quick weapon change and E-tanks. No password or save feature is very bad though. I wonder when Capcom will be doing those "announcements"

  8. GAWD! The seconds countdown is killing me...!1!1!1

    ...

    DONE XD

  9. The game crashes for me on Win7 x64 upon entering any boss fight. Level design is flat. Very flat. Practically every enemy can be dispatched with just one charged shot. No save system or control config. This is pretty bad. I didn't want to nitpick, but this game has problems.

  10. Massive slowdown, may not detect usb controllers, may not detect any key press other than Enter, no sound, game crashes upon entering a boss room.

    It's crap.

  11. Password and saving will be paid DLC.

  13. Wow, their site is getting HAMMERED right now....hope this sends a message about the desire for more Megaman games.

  14. So, exactly how do you customize the controls in this game? There's absolutely no way I'm using letter keys over the arrow keys to make the stage select cursor and Mega Man move.

  15. Oh, okay.. I'll download it. Might as well try it out and see if it is worth the hype. :)

  16. If you hit F2 in game you can customize the controls to use and key, or buttons on a controller you want. :)

  17. Just beat it. I enjoyed it. You can tell it's a fan game though and lacks a certain level of polish I would expect from a Mega Man game. Still fun though.

Toughest parts were probably the mini-jumps over the pits in Blanka's stage and the Boss Rush because I didn't figure out until about 20 minutes into it that you could shoot the orbs by the statue for health inbetween boss fights. Final boss is really easy though so no worries there.

Best part was the 1st stage after you beat all 8 bosses initially

My only big gripe is that when using a USB controller you can't map anything to the D-Pad. It only uses the control stick. Took awhile to get used to it, but I managed.

  18. @ All those who want to change controls:

When you start a stage, pause it (enter) and hit F2. That will let you set custom controls. I was able to use a gamecontroller with that too.

However, the lack of save/passwords really stinks...

Upgrade to a 2GHz CPU and get a video card that doesn't use PCI.

  20. Played two levels. So far, I like it, but I feel that the charge shot makes things too easy. If you want to enjoy the game a little more, avoid using charge shot.

Also, from what I can tell, the optimization for this game is...well, not good. If I don't have a gamepad (read: my arcade stick) plugged in when I fire up the game, it runs really slow. Dey need to fix the kinks for this game, 'cause not being able to play the game SUCKS.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Press enter then press F2 to map keys, people.
I have absolutely no problems with the games and I'm actually pretty satisfied.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Ouch!! That was a bad starting for a fanmade game sponsored by cashcom, hey people! try using internet download manager to download it. I'll try it using ubuntu.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Welp, final boss glitched and killed himself. The credits rolled and now there's no password or savefile to actually go back and fight (spoilers)...

    ReplyDelete
  24. @Krazy Monkey: Pause the game and push F3

    ReplyDelete
  25. To change the controls you need to Pause (Enter) then press F2. If you wait a little more on the Pause Screen, others options will be showed. After you press F2 just configure the controls the way you want.
The download speed is low because there's a lot of people downloading the game at the same time. Just be patient and do somethint else while the game download. Its worth it. Really.

  27. Game is pretty good! I feel that there are too many E-tanks in the stages and it makes the game too easy. But, there are some surprises! I deliberately didn't look at the videos of it so I could be surprised and I"m loving it! C. Viper's stage had an awesome surprise! First time in years I've felt like I had to move my arse! LOL

  28. Plays like a free game. Such a disappointment with poor level design and no passwords. This game truly reflects how Crapcom feels about the Megaman franchise.

These fan games play better than what Capcom made:

  29. Ok, so I've gotten a chance to play this thing.

    Pros:
-I like the music. Mixing classic Mega Man tunes with SF tunes is awesome. I also laughed my ass off when I heard Ryu's 8-bit versions of "Hadouken" and "Shoryuken"... -It's HARD. Like, traditionally hard like a good classic game should be.
-It honestly brought a smile to my face and it's been a while since anything Mega Man related has brought a smile to my 1face at all.

    Cons:
-Ok, obviously we had a few glaring glitches that Capcom's QA did not catch whatsoever. For me, it did freeze for a second when I got to Ryu. Getting to Rolento was fine but Ryu made my computer want to puke.
-I tapped off the screen to check my email in Firefox, and the game's screen went black.. I figured it would come back when I came back to the game as my active window... it did not. I had to force Windows to close the game, thus losing my progress.
-This above point is especially infuriating when I just beat my first boss and there are no save points or passwords.

-Also kind of disappointed that there was NO celebration whatsoever in Japan aside an exclusive X battle Memory for XOver (IMHO Over-1 is merely an X clone anyway) and all we get is XOver, MM1-6 are coming to eShop and we've got a fairly glitchy fan-game with Capcom of America's slapped on seal of approval.

Poor Mega Man deserves better than this... Mega Man 2 was the MM series' 'break-away' hit, that was 1988. SF2 was Street Fighter's break-away hit, and that wasn't until 1991. Mega Man gave Capcom the lifeforce and recognition they needed to even make Street Fighter a household name. Period. Mega Man deserves much more respect than this, but Capcom of Japan is in a pissing contest with Inafune, so any RM/MM related anything is gonna get shat down the toilet in a hurry.

..alrighty, fandom, time to save our blue boys. Let's go.

  32. Mega Man (Dec. 17, 1987 - Dec. 17, 2012)

Mega Man (a hero to many) sadly passed away this morning due to download complications. His latest entry Street Fighter x Mega Man went live late Thursday night and was met with a resounding audience, so much so in fact that the stress caused the download link to go down.

Unfortunately, Capcom was unable to re-establish a proper link before a "fan" decided to link the file to Mediafire, an off-site download host. This caused a significant loss of track-able data on Capcom's end, thus making it seem that people didn't really care for the title and thus all future Mega Man title development was ceased. He was 25 years old and survived by his social counterpart Over-1.

"Rest, Mega Man, in everlasting peace."

So... I wanted to congratulate the man by saying that he rock, but when I arrived, the mega party was already xover.
(I wonder... Did a party even happened here? Or was it cancelled?)

  35. Having played through it, I feel the boss fights (save one) are extremely well-done, and were clearly the very focus of the whole thing. They are some of the most fun I've ever had in a Mega Man game, save one. I think anyone who's played it in full knows who I am referring to.

What little platforming was there in comparison was still well-done, but yeah, I agree there could have been a bit more of it in the late game. Some of the first eight stages are actually really inspired and good! (Dhalsim's and Urien's are both some of my favorites.)

Given it's a free game, I'm OK with most of the little quibbles. The material is handled very respectfully.

I would rather the lead designer do boss fight AI designs if Capcom ever tapped their shoulder to help with another classic game, because he clearly knows how to make them interesting, fair, and challenging (except for, again, that one boss).

    ReplyDelete
  36. Having just played it, I can't believe Capcom actually supported this. If this is what they're actually offering for a 25th anniversary then Megaman is truly dead. I can only imagine the pain the guys at Inticreates must be feeling right now.

As a fangame it's ok but is in no way better than some other existing fangames out there. As an officially endorsed Capcom Megaman game it's garbage.

    Pros:
    - The music is actually pretty nice, the remixes between classic Megaman tracks and the Street Fighter themes work surprisingly well.
    - The boss fights are pretty epic, each Street Fighter's signature moves feel just right and the ultra mechanism works well.

    Cons:
    - The level design: this is unspeakably bad. The background and foreground colors are often very alike, it's not at all clear which tiles are walls and which tiles are part of the background. The levels just look bland. The Chun-Li looks like someone ate all the worst looking colors of the RGB spectrum and puked em up on the screen. Rose's stage actually hurts the eyes.
    - The level layouts: some stages are complete mazes while others are extremely linear. In Chun-Li's stage you barely have to do anything, you can just run forward, get hit a few times and reach the end without any challenge.
    - The enemy design: they just look so bland and dull. Megaman enemies are supposed to have big eyes to give them somewhat of a personality and a recognizable silhouette.
    - The enemies in general: some enemies don't pose a single challenge but are just there to annoy you. The laser flowers in the Blanka stage for example don't pose any threat but they take ages to kill. Other enemies just appear on random locations giving you barely any chance of dodging them.
    - GameMaker game: seriously Capcom, as one of the larger and more succesful game development studios in the world you endorse a GameMaker game? Are you kidding me? It's non-compatible with any other platform but PCs, it's barely expandable and very limited. This is just sad.

I like fangames, I hope many more get made and there is no way I'd be this harsh about it if it was just a fangame. But when a professional game development studio puts its label on something you expect quality and this game isn't even up to indie standards.

  37. I'd say the game design is actually pretty good (no passwords aside), the major problems here are terrible stage design, some sounds not being recorded in the same way and either being too soft or too loud, and those ugly stage select portraits.

Would be great to get a way to mod this..

  41. So, I've taken the above posters' advice on how to customize the controls, and I have to say, I didn't find myself enjoying this game in the least. Now, don't get me wrong; it was an excellent concept and everything, but the laggy and unresponsive controls just ruined this game for me completely.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Meh this game is just mediocre that's really all it comes down to. All the effort was clearly put into the boss fights and those each last only a few seconds so you'll spend most of the game wandering around bland uninspired stages.

    Here's a couple secrets though,

On the stage select screen select Ryu and hold shoot then press, left right right right... or maybe it's right left left left. Regardless if you do it Mega Man will go helmetless.

In a stage, pause, hold jump and press up down down down if you do it right... well you'll know when you've done it right.

  43. To be honest I'm not impressed. Hey I love Classic 8-bit Mega Man as much as the next guy or gal but this game is average at best.

    Pros:
    -Good soundtrack
    -Bosses are fun
    -It's free

    Cons:
-Level design is lacking in creativity
-Bosses look similar to Mega Man
    -No save feature
    -Really short
    -Downright easy

    Overall I would give it a 6/10
Hopefully we'll see an actual Mega Man game in the near future, whether it be Classic, X, or Battle Network I just want a new Mega Man game.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Cons:

Street Fighter characters are human being and they all look like Megaman's version. Also, Megaman is a robot. It doesn't make a sense. They should make a Street Fighter characters in clone-robots that Dr. Wily created for Megaman and there you go. A new title should be called Street Fighter Robots X Megaman. :)

  45. Played it, I enjoyed the game. Some of the most interesting boss battles I've seen in a megaman game, and can only be expected from fangames, willing to take it a step further for the fans.

I started with C.Viper first, since the buster seems so much easier to use than her weakness.

One glitch I found, there's a "Blaster Master" glitch you can do when fighting Urien. Use the Mine Sweeper from Rolento's stage, and when you pause right when he gets hit with it. (If on the pause menu, his lifebar starts going up ans down, you've done it.) unpause, and boom! he's down.
