Early Street Fighter X Mega Man Gameplay

Fun fact: development on Street Fighter X Mega Man began approximately three years ago. It's creator, Seow Zong Hui, uploaded gameplay to YouTube as early as 2009. It's unlikely any of this footage reflects the final product (stage design, music and what have you), but it's a nice sneak peek at what's to come.

More footage after the break!

  1. One nice thing about this being a primarily fan venture is that you'll get more unexpected characters like Rolento and Urien. If it were Capcom themselves doing it all you know they'd go the easy route with just the original World Warriors as the eight main bosses.

  2. I'm liking what I see of this early footage, a lot. The silliness with using the melons as springs (and how it's used as a gag at the end of the Dhalsim fight) is pretty good.

I do not like how you can keep Soul Satellite up while using other weapons, and I'm not sure I like the first few screens of Blanka's stage (or how his music sounds in Mega Man-ish 8-bit).

The boss fights all look extremely fun, though, and I see a few nifty new ideas even in the early development videos, so...

So, well, the release can't come soon enough, I say! Let's leave any ill feelings about Capcom's business decisions at the door for once.

  3. Man, that Rolento fight looks awesome (the SF4 theme helps). I wish he didn't have the stock Mega Man face, BUUUUUT that was fixed in the final product, so no complaints from me. :P

There's the possibility Soul Satellite isn't good offensively and is instead really just a get out of one hit free card, in which case switching to other weapons isn't that bad.

    Sort of like Schneekristal.

  5. Oh god, that GCCX music is fucking awful. They better have REAL 8-bit chiptune music for this.

The Press release the other day said they hired A_Rival a chiptune artist to do the music so you probably won't have to worry about that.

  7. Cashcom will publish this game for free download on December 17th, only for windows-pc.

  8. Am I the only one who is not impressed? Seriously, this just seems lazy to me. I guess it doesn't help that I'm comparing to full-fledged games like, oh, I don't know... MEGA MAN LEGENDS 3.

  9. It helps if you just think of it as a fan venture.

Yes Capcom published the game and chipped in here and there, but as you can see a lot of the core work was done before hand.

  10. Megaman can charge and slide again! THANK YOU GOD! I understand why they took these abilities away from him in 9 to make it more nostalgic (why capcom did I mean) but by 10 it stopped making sense. I mean what happened to his Mega Buster between 8 and 9 anyway? Did it break? Did he lose it? Did Roll sell it ( '_- )?

  12. Meh I prefered Mega Man not having a charged shot and i'm a relatively new fan of the series. I do however like him having slide.

  13. @Anon #5: Keep in mind that this is, for the most part, the work of one guy who's been working on this for roughly 3 years. Hard to call that lazy. >.>

  14. Wow, even the early gameplay vids look good. I do like how we'll be able to slide and charge in this game. Since MM9 released too many fan games seem to think that because of that game, having these abilities is a no-no.

  15. @Anon5: It also doesn't help that you're talking about an extremely early build from 3 years ago. Can we please stop saying "this sucks because it's not Legends 3" at everything? If Mega Man 11 or Mega Man X9 ever come out, and someone says that, I'll probably lose my shit.

    I don't see how this isn't a "full-fledged" game in any way. Is it only a "half-game"?

Tired of people who think that only commercial AAA ventures are "real" games.

  17. @Haters:
    Capcom USA ≠ Capcom Japan

By the way, excluding translations, when was the last time Capcom USA released a game?
Since the licensed "U.S. GOLD" game Strider? (oh my...)
