Korean sites Beta News and Mediot have brought forth some new details pertaining to Rockman Online. In addition to providing a few new official illustrations focusing in on Rockman X and Zero (below), both sites have confirmed the game as a 2D side scrolling action RPG with 3D graphics (comparable to that of Mega Man X8 and Maverick Hunter X).
More details and screenshots of Online are expected to be released in the very near future. For now, please do enjoy the new official artwork!

I'm really curious as to what the gameplay will be like, since it's a sidescroller. Also, do players play as originally made characters or already existing characters?

Yep, but the only ones that come to mind are Maple Story and La Tale. And DFO, but that isn't a platformer.
That play like most normal platformers, instead it's one big world instead of levels, and more focus on fighting than actaul platforming. And Grinding

There have been tons and I mean TONS of 2DMMORPGs, but I'm not so sure about a platforming one where you die falling into pits and stuff. This seems like it's got a lot of potential, though. Multiplayer MMX. Didn't everybody want that at some point?

This... is... unexpected to say the least. It really IS X related, after all, color me surprised. They really should make the title "RockMan X Online" then... Being a side-scrolling RPG, it'll probably be something similar to Maple Story. I wonder if there will be character creation? Now that would be interesting (or perhaps it's directly implied anyway, so there's no need to actually say "hey, there character creation!").

I can’t decide how to feel. Do I love that they’re using the X series because X gets no love any more, or do I hate that they’re using the X series since it means it’s being wasted on an MMO?
The character art makes me so happy… and then I remember it’s for a damn Mega Man X MMO. How completely depressing. Total fail. :/
This would be so, so amazing if it was the first-ever art revealed for Mega Man X9. So, so, so amazing. Alas.
Oh, and Mega Man X8’s character designs were awesome. X has never looked better IMO.
Also… no Axl (yet), Sigma’s back, and the art looks like it’s done more in the style of Maverick Hunter X. Could this be an interquel? I guess it’s just as well that it doesn’t continue the story after X8; MMOs have awful/nonexistent stories anyway, so it’d be wasted potential.

Korean? Not Japanese? I don't like the sounds of this...it's essentially a fan-game, it seems, and I don't think anything in it can be taken as canon.

I see where you're coming from, but think of it this way: What if it still turns out to be something extraordinarily good, despite being an MMO? For example, I'm not a huge fan of the RPG genre in general, and yet I thorougly enjoyed all the Mario RPGs that have ever been released. There's a chance that Capcom may end up doing something that'll blow people out of the water, even those who don't like MMOs.

X fanbase. Previously somewhat united, now almost completely split apart by this game for various reasons.

A Korean MMO? I can't help but imagine Gunbound and Maplestory having a little blue lovechild.
It'll be interesting if the signup process is easy or 2ch gets their hands on this. Either way we'll be seeing screenshots and niconico videos probably the day of release.
Wish it wasn't an mmo though, I don't have time for grindan with my job these days.
Just what I expected, the X game that is not X9 that Inafune Mentioned, perhaps it will be announced at the Hobby Fair.. or not....
The hobby fair game is more than likely to be a new hobby style rockman, nothing to do with X.
Also, I forgot to mention Monster Hunter is techinally a mmorpg (Frontier noted) and it is far from grindy in the sense of level caps. If MMO is platform heavy, I think it will be more skill emphasised then anything else. I just can't imagine shooting a boss for a hour striaght. But, that's just me.
Too bad it isn't for the Battle Network/EXE series, now that's something I really want to play as an MMO.
They have to release this in Japan and/or the West. A whole lot of way more obscure Korean MMOs have been getting Japanese and Western releases lately. They'd be crazy not to release this one abroad, given the huge potential of a well-established property such as Mega Man. I'd be willing to bet that this is the "Mega Man Universe" we've heard about.
As for the general concept of a Mega Man MMO, I'm just going to keep an open mind. It's too early to talk doom and gloom yet, since we know next to nothing about the actual gameplay. Who knows, maybe Capcom will make more MMX games if this one really takes off.

I really am not sure how this one will play out, but I'm imagining I'll be making an original character somehow and doing missions, yet X and Zero are obviously main characters? Color me stumped on that one. Do you make an OC and do missions WITH a compy-controlled X and Zero? Or do they just berate me for dying against a boss? Give out missions? etc? What?

I find it funny how everyone is mentioning MapleStory. From the text that mentions 3D, why has no one commented Grand Chase yet?
My only beef is ... why does the artwork look like that especially after the pretty epic one they posted before these? Hope they get better artists, that Zero is pretty bad.
@MegaMac: I think Maple Story is the first thing that pops into people's heads when they think "sidescrolling MMORPG". Grand Chase does sound like a better comparison, though.

It may or may not be worth mentioning that the standalone art greatly resembles the style the EXE artists used, esoecially around the eyes.
