These Variant 'Worlds Collide' Covers Are Made of Pixels

The folks at IGN have taken the wraps off of two very stylish variant covers for "Worlds Collide" parts 6 (Sonic the Hedgehog #249) and 7 (Mega Man #26). The covers boast full-on 16-bit tributes using actual sprites from Mega Man 7, Mega Man & Bass, Sonic Battle, and Sonic CD. Pretty neat wouldn't you say?

Both issues are due to hit newsstands on May 29 and June 12 respectively.

  1. Whoah, pretty cool cover!

By the way, on Sonic's side, its not Sonic Advance, its Sonic Battle. And for Tails, its Sonic 2.

  2. I wish that Megaman vs Astro boy would happen because it will make a sense. Sonic vs Megaman doesnt make sense to me at all since Sonic is a living organ creature.

  3. Oh my gaaaah-- *has an aneurysm*

    ..........

Sorry. I just... The hybridization and clash of sprite styles just... Hnnjahfs. It hurts so much.

  4. Joe, you need to chill.

I think this is pretty awesome of them to do. It is kinda strange that they used the MM8 arm cannon on MM7 Megaman, but it still looks awesome for what it is!

  5. Hurts so...good, Joseph? lol. I think it looks fine. After all, I'm sure we've all seen much worse! =P

I think the covers are a nice twist. It's been so long since I've purchased a Sonic comic, but the time comes again...

  6. For anyone who has spent a good amount of time playing sprite-based games it's more than a little eye-searing. Not to mention it calls to memory all kinds of bad webomics.

  7. I've seen better sprite work in frigging Bob and George this is terrible.

  8. Don't get me wrong. The covers are very nicely made. A bit of love went into these to be attractive and clever. But given the sprite Frankensteining and such, they're just not my thing...

    By the way:
Part 7 Cover sources: Sonic CD, Mega Man 2: The Power Fighters, Mega Man 8
Part 6 Cover sources: Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic Battle, Mega Man 7, Mega Man 8, Mega Man & Bass

  9. Yeah, these covers don't look that great to me. I get what they are trying to do and it is a nice touch, but I much prefer to see actual artwork on a cover and not a homage using pixel art I have already seen before. :(

  11. We have to look at the positive side! At least it's not a trace like some Sonic stuff, right? :P

  12. These dead pixels are usually best seen against a white background. They are usually caused by manufacturing defects and manufacturers have a clause to say a certain number of such pixels are permissible in a brand new laptop.ป๊อกเด้ง
