Another Look At 100,000 Strong's Rocket (Updated)

Consider this a friendly reminder: two weeks from today, the folks behind 100,000 Strong for Mega Man Legends 3 will show their support for the game by launching a model rocket replica based on the design of the rocket in Mega Man Legends 3.

UPDATE: Originally planned to launch on December 8, I just received word that there might be a small delay. According to Skybane, the date might change to January 12, 2013. We aren't certain of the change just yet, but I'll be keeping an ear out. For now, though, the event is still going to take place at the Hearne Municipal Airport in Hearne, Texas. You'll get to meet fellow fans, shake hands with Hopie-chan, and have an all-round good time. For those who can't make the trip, the event will be recorded and broadcasted online later. More details here.

If you can make it, good for you. Should be fun. If not, well, you and I can enjoy it from afar when it hits the web. We'll be there in spirit!

  7. I thought this song would be appropriate:

    In the not-too-distant future,
    next Sunday A.D.,
there was a was a guy named Joel,
not too different from you or me.
    He worked at Gizmonic Institute,
Just another face in a red jumpsuit.
He did a good job cleaning up the place,
But his bosses didn't like him
So they shot him into space.

    We'll send him cheesy movies,
The worst we can find (la-la-la).
He'll have to sit and watch them all,
And we'll monitor his mind (la-la-la).
Now keep in mind Joel can't control
Where the movies begin or end (la-la-la)
Because he used those special parts
    To make his robot friends.

Robot Roll Call: (All right, let's go!)
    Cambot! (Pan left!)
    Gypsy! (Hi, girl!)
Tom Servo! (What a cool guy!)
    Croooow! (He's a wisecracker.)

If you're wondering how he eats and breathes
and other science facts (la la la),
Then repeat to yourself, "It's just a show,
    I should really just relax
    For Mystery Science Theater 3000!"

  8. I swear to God, that doesn't look like it's remotely worth $1500+...

In material making and all that other stuff, it's $30 at maximum.

I hope the supporters like that they're getting scammed and trolled by 100k Strong.

  9. @ last Anon:

Way to show your ignorance about model building, let alone model rocketry. Firstly, that's definitely more than $30 in materials. Likely $30 in paint alone. Secondly, this isn't just building a "neat looking" model. Just because something looks cool doesn't have any bearing on whether it will fly proper or at all. They have large model that not only looks great, but was built by an expert builder who knows how to build stuff that actually flies proper. Expertise cost money and enough fans were willing to chip in to do it right.

As a fan of model rocketry and Rockman, I look forward to a great launch! :D

A hyperbolic statement from a ignorant and misinformed anon. If you think that a five foot tall, 25 pound custom made rocket cost 30 dollars to make then you are truly delusional. You can't buy this rocket anywhere else and it had to undergo wind tunnel testing to help ensure its flight. 100k isn't making a profit and hasn't done anything deserve this kind of slander.

  11. @ anon with comment "Dammit Hearne?? The Rocket Club is from Houston so why not Houston?? I wanna meet Hopie D:

Yeah that threw us for a loop too. We were all like but you name is Tripoli Houston why are the launches all the way out there in Hearne. They said that FAA regulations is on of the main reasons. I know that it is far but I hope to see there. Hopie has been tweaking her cosplay for the launch.

  12. @Butthurt blind sheep:

    Oh, I'm sorry.

My mistake, it costed $80 to make the rocket, because you added some fishtank rocks to make it heavier (for no reason) and spent more money than you needed on higher quality paint.

  13. @ last Anon if anybody is a Butthurt blind sheep then it is you . You have proven yet again that you don't know what you are talking about. the weight is to help stable and it is not filled with rocks. Go ahead and find someone that is will to spend 80+ hours building a model rocket for 80 bucks. I dont know what beef you have 100k but they didn't do anything to deserve your seething of mouth trollish slander.

  14. Dude c'mon, he's obviously trolling you. Just ignore him. He's clearly taking out of his ass.

You'd think people will stop taking troll bait by now.
