Exact Time Of Next Mega Man Legends 3 Updates Revealed

Capcom has stated on numerous occasions the newest batch of Mega Man Legends 3 announcements would be made during this weekend's Comic Con in New York. What time exactly can we expect things to surface?

According to the game's art director, Yuji Ishihara, the MML3 updates will trickle out a little bit past noon on Sunday, October 10, likely coinciding with Capcom's panel at 12:15. He wasn't specific on what kind of content will be exhibited, but did note he expects the game's visuals to not be shown at this particular event. Here's his statement in full, courtesy of Andriasang:

"We're maintaining the important points like the bright and light atmosphere of the series, aiming for quality that matches the current era, and fighting with the new 3DS hardware and the schedule. We probably won't be able to show the visuals for a bit, but we're working to meet expectations!"

Despite a no-show for the visuals, I'll be posting every morsel of info that comes out of this event. Sunday's going to be a big day so stay tuned!

No Plans For Mega Man Universe Co-Op; GB MM On 3DS Virtual Console?

Couple interesting tidbits of note coming from the pre-Comic Con Capcom event in Brooklyn, New York today. The first concerns the possibility of cooperative multiplayer in Mega Man Universe. This coming from a tweet from Rockman Perfect Memories' Protoman Blues, on the scene at today's Q&A panel:

"So far, MMU has no plans for co-op as of yet. This could change."

When asked for more details, PB had this to say:
"My friend Lou asked if there was any co-op planned and they told us "not at this time, but it's something that can be brought up" so it doesn't look like they were planning it."

With an undetermined 2011 release, there's still a bit of development time should Capcom decide to implement multiplayer. I'm sure if there's enough demand, by both the fans and the press, they'll consider it.

Also, during the panel, PB inquired about the likelihood of the Game Boy Mega Man games (Rockman World) being released for the Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console:

"I did ask if there was any chance they'd put the Mega Man World GB games as downloadable games for the 3DS's DSiWare thingy, and he told me while he doesn't know any plans, he can't think of a reason why Capcom wouldn't put them on there. LoL, a SHRED of hope at least."

Custom 'Mega Arm' Model Is All Kinds Of Awesome

It was only a matter of time before fans began customizing the newly released Kotobukiya Rockman model to their liking. Case in point, this ridiculously awesome "Mega Arm" (aka Rock Arm) modification by romlus:

Additional parts intended for a Mazinger Z model were used to create this clever custom, a nod to the weapon of the same name from Game Boy Mega Man V (Rockman World 5) that, when charged, turns Mega Man's fist into a makeshift projectile.

It goes without saying, this is just pure win. Can't wait to see what other kind of zany mods await us!

No, This Isn't A Promo Item For Ghouls N' Ghosts...

...it's for Mega Man Universe!

Inflatabe Mega Man Universe branded Arthur lances are but one of many Capcom items awaiting you at the New York City Comic-Con later this week. Much like the foam Mega Buster and MMU headbands from San Diego, these four foot long lances are sure to go fast. Hop on over to the Capcom booth a grab one, ASAP!

In other Comic-Con news, Mega Man Universe will be playable, and Keiji Inafune will be on-site ready to sign those autographs (no mention of Akiko Ito, however)! As for the presence of Mega Man Legends 3, the game will be at the show in some shape or form according to not only Keiji Inafune but director Masakazu Eguchi, as well. We're supposed to be learning more about the game by the end of this week, likely during Capcom's panel on October 10 at 12:15PM. I'll keep you updated!

Another Look At Kotobukiya Roll, Blues Models

These two galleries managed to bypass my radar the other day, so forgive the late posting. Amiami's blog has posted a plethora of photos of the Kotobukiya Blues model, while Moeyo has an up close (and somewhat revealing) look at the Roll model in her 'classic' attire. I've compiled a few select images from both galleries below.

Blues (Proto Man) - January 2011 release

Roll - late December release

More Roll images available here. Beware, there's a few "up skirt shots" in addition to other NSFW content throughout the site.

Thanks for the tip, Protoman!

Are More MML Ports In Our Future?

If Mega Man Legends 3 were to pick up right after the events of its prequel, how will Capcom get players, specifically, series newcomers, up to speed?

The original PlayStation games are fairly difficult to obtain in this day and age (especially if you live outside of Japan,) and the fact that there's yet to be any digital re-releases doesn't help, either. This is an issue many have pondered even long before MML3 officially came to be and is certainly something Capcom is thinking about.

Capcom's Christian Svensson recently responded to a similar inquiry posted on the Ask Capcom forums regarding the possibility of porting the original Legends games to modern-day consoles in an effort to get the original games back in the public eye:

"No news to report at the moment but I agree it would make sense to if there's a way we can get people back up to speed on the franchise. I'll see what we can do."

Sven has been pushing hard to get Legends on PSN for quite site time, but his efforts have yet to come to fruition. Still, would PSN re-releases really be the best way to reach this new Legends 3 audience?  The gamers who've taken an interest in the title but haven't experienced its prequels?

A popular suggestion among fans is bundle Legends 1 and Legends 2 together on a single cartridge for the Nintendo 3DS. Capcom would take the Ocarina of Time 3D approach, clean up the graphics a bit, and throw in some 3D/touch screen functionality. The theory is it would be convenient to have all three main Legends series entries on the same console, something that I definitely agree with.

Regardless, it does sound like Capcom is working on some way of getting people caught up with the series. What do you think? Should Capcom offer up more MML ports? If so, in what form should they take?

Masakazu Eguchi Talks Mega Man Legends 3

To tide you over until the big MML3 announcements later this week, Masakazu Eguchi, director of Mega Man Legends 3, dropped a rather insightful message about the project at the game's development blog. The most noteworthy, reassuring tidbit discussed is confirmation that most of the original MML team are returning for Legends 3! The rest of his message below (and continued after the break):

----

"Let me start by thanking you all for your flood of comments. The sheer number of comments was unbelievable! But of course, it isn’t just about the numbers. The thought and feeling you put into each post was amazing, and we felt that! Thank you!

The staff here who also follow this blog everyday are excited as well. Even Inafune, joined in the conversation a bit, responding, “You betcha,” to a poster who asked, “Are you really Keiji Inafune?” He’s just cool like that.(I may jump on a thread or two now and then myself.)
From now on I’ll be using this blog to give you detailed updates, so please chime in with your feedback!"

Eguchi's complete message after the break!...

Kotobukiya Blues Revealed

Capcom Japan's official Rockman homepage and Rockman Unity blog updated this morning with the first images of the 1/10 scale Blues model from Kotobukiya.

According to the sites, Blues will release in January 2011 with a suggested retail price of 3,150 Yen, or roughly $37.80. Much like the Rockman and Roll models, he comes with his own set of accessories including a removable shield and three interchangable faceplates. No mention of what those will look like, but I'm willing to bet one of those includes a Break Man mask!

I anticipate we'll be seeing a flurry of photos of the model in due time as Kotobukiya are known to exhibit their models publicly at retail.

Will Legends 3 Utilize MT Framework?

Mega Man Legends is often cited as the source of inspiration for Capcom's MT Framework game engine, built for not only the then upcoming Dead Rising and Lost Planet, but also a hypothetical Mega Man Legends 3 (this was back in '07, remember). However, with the third entry of the series now a reality and landing on the portable Nintendo 3DS, will the game still run on MT Framework? The very engine designed with MML in mind?

According to reports from a couple weeks back, Capcom is indeed adapting the MT Framework technology for the Nintendo 3DS. Resident Evil Revelations and Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition will be making full use of the engine, dubbed "MT Frmework Mobile."  MTF Mobile is said to be based around the more recent MT framework 2.0 engine, while the graphics will be specially tuned for the 3DS. The mobile version's capabilities were recently demonstrated in a series of RE Revelations screenshots, showing off the engine's numerous graphical capabilities such as depth of field and dynamic HDR lighting. It's all quite impressive tech, to say the least.

In short, Mega Man Legends 3 could very much be making use of MT Framework, at long last, despite the game being developed on a portable console. MT Framework or not, I'm very curious to see what MML3 actually looks like. Hopefully, next week's Comic Con will deliver!

Rockman Online Plot Details Surface

Overshadowed by the big Mega Man Legends 3 unveiling, NeoWiz opened up an official blog for Rockman Online. Scant on gameplay specifics or release date info, the page did however reveal some interesting info about playable character classes with a handful of new artwork thrown into the mix, too. You can read up on all of that here but today we're taking a quick look at the game's plot.

----
According to the blog (with a translation and summary provided by reader KidWillow), Rockman Online takes place in the far future. Rockman X, Zero, and the rest of the X series cast have long died off; so too, has the looming threat of the Sigma Virus and its product, the Irregulars (Mavericks).

Believing the threat of Irregulars are gone for good, society is taken by surprise one day when a large number of Irregulars began to wreak havoc out of the blue. In response, the UCA (The United Continent Association), initiates the production of copies of X, Zero and Duo, among other heroes, to combat the rampant Irregulars. The UCA went so far as to embed the DNA Souls of the original heroes onto a chip housed within the copy bodies to further enhance their abilities in an effort to make them as legitimate as possible.

The Irregulars associated with Rockman Online are actually rebuilt and heavily customized versions of Robot Masters and Irregulars from the past, produced in a similar manner to the X, Zero and Duo copies. Coupling the above info with the other day's report, we can assume these Irregulars will go on to form the basis of the URA organization (The Ultimate Reploid Association). The URA is at constant war with the UCA with battles waging on the small to large, global scale.

What isn't known at this point is just how Dr. Light and Dr. Wily returned. Artwork on the game's blog depicts the characters associated with the UCA/URA respectively, leading to the assumption that each doctor spearhead's their respective organization. Their depiction could also be looked upon as a sort of visual representation of "good vs. evil" but we don't know for sure.

Nevertheless, it's a fairly interesting plot. I doubt it's canon but hey, I'm not Capcom.

More RMO details are expected to come from the blog so check back every now and then.
