Review: Threezero MDLX Mega Man X (Rising Fire Ver.)

Somehow, Rising Fire has become one of X's most-used alternate color schemes. From toy lines to spin-off games, it's really been making the rounds in recent years. Now, Threezero is throwing their hat into the ring of fire.

That's right, the latest release in the company's MDLX line is Mega Man X (Rising Fire Ver.)Is this our best Rising Fire X yet, or does it get snuffed out? Let’s find out after the break!

For those new to the MDLX line, these are very sturdy and extremely posable figures. These aren't model kits, so you can get to posing this guy straight out of the box, and this guy is super poseable. The figure can be posed into anything you can think of and beyond, with the added benefit of not having a chance to fall apart.

If you remember our review on MDLX X, there was an issue with one of the shoulder armors popping off occasionally. Rising Fire X doesn't seem to have this flaw, at least mine doesn't, so it's good that that issue seems to have been cleared up. The colors on X really pop, showing the deep red that Rising Fire is known for along with a cool grey to balance it out. X's red armor is very shiny so it really sticks out on the shelf.

"Don't mess with me or my son ever again."

As mentioned above, this is just the latest in the sea of Rising Fire lately. When compared to the Kotobukiya Rising Fire kit, you can really notice just how rich the colors are. As much as I love Kotobukiya's offering, these deep colors on the MDLX figure are hard to beat.

YOU GOT
RISING FIRE

Rising Fire X includes a new face for X, a yelling face. This one seems to follow the trend of Threezero's faces being a bit off. But this time, that comes with a caveat...

"Help!"

The face looks pretty awkward, but only from certain angles. The photo above on the far right actually makes it look pretty nice, same with having it out of focus in the background (see below). If you decide to use this face, keep in mind the viewing angle.

Sideways Fire!

As for the namesake accessory, it looks really nice! I was originally going to say that the sculpt was completely new, but on further inspection, it seems to be a recolor of the charge shot from the standard X figure. However, that doesn't change the face that this accessory looks really good. The bright orange and red really make this one pop, and the slight translucence really helps to sell the idea of it being fire.

Hot stuff!

The Rising Fire accessory has two different "tail" pieces. One makes it look like the shot is still connected to the Buster while the other is a small tail showing the motion of the blast. Switching them out is easy enough, just watch for pointy bits.

Accessorize!

The accessory list matches the amount from previous releases. We get two faces, neutral and shouting. We also get two sets of hands, fists and open hands and an optional Buster. The Rising Fire accessory includes a stand that is very easy to assemble. I've saved my favorite accessory for last, the flaming hand. All the color pros from the Rising Fire piece apply here; this thing really stands out!

"Someone get me off of this crazy thing!"

Like the previous figures in the MDLX Mega Man lines, the legs are very heavy and magnetic. If you want, X can do a wall-cling pose with ease.

"I'm heading back to base."

If you happen to have the Event Exclusive version of MDLX X, I'm happy to report that the bonus shine effect for the helmet is fully compatible, so use that sense & skill to show X at his best!

P1 & P2

And that sums up Threezero's MDLX Rising Fire X. While this guy has a few cons here and there, like the weird shouting face, I'd say the pros really outweigh those. The vibrant colors alone almost make it worth the purchase.

What other special weapons would you like to see in the MDLX line? I'll be rooting for Shotgun Ice and Sonic Slicer, myself.
