The Rockman 11 soundtrack has been quite controversial among fans. Many fans didn't liked it and some only liked certain tracks. Where do you stand? Let us know in the comments!

  1. In my opinion, some tracks were really good but the vast majority were just ok, including the arranged versions. The thing is, that I don't remember tracks that are "ok" or "meh". Since I grade an OST based on the tracks that I remember, MM11's OST gets only an "ok" for me.

The OST winning an award is a surprise for me, but I won't complain, as it is more recognisement for the franchise :)

  2. I did like the soundtracks. Some were more catchy than others, but they are all good overall. Interesting that they used Spotify Plays to rank this, but it's still pretty cool.

  3. "some only liked certain tracks"

I stand here pretty much. An idea of my taste here is my rank of MMC soundtracks (I do prefer MMX and Zero osts overall though). 1. MM3 2. MM10 3. MM&B(SNES) 4. MM5 5. MM2 6.MM4 7.MM7 8. MM8(I don't care it's smooth and mellows me out) 9. MM6 10. MM9 11. MM11. That doesn't really give a good indication though cause I generally think MM soundtracks are fantastic, very few have a huge gap in quality difference, for example even though MM3 is listed as number 1 I don't think it's THAT much better than say what I have listed as number 6. But I do think there is more of a gap between say MM11 and MM6 for instance.

I put X6 and Zero3 over every Classic soundtrack though, actually outside of maaaaaaaybe X2 and 3 those two series have never imo produced an average soundtrack in terms of MM music standards, they are all cream of the crop.

    1. Your taste hit so surprisingly close to mine, it's nearly unsetting.

  4. The soundtrack to 11 was amazing! I was hesitant at first but listening to it outside of the game let me appreciate it. I hope Capcom continues to innovate with music in the Mega Man series.

  5. most of the soundtrack just wasn't Mega Man, wouldnt say bad but not Mega Man. Not the first game in the series where that was the case tho.

    1. Can't say I agree. Before Mega Man 11 was a thing, when I tried to imagine what a soundtrack for a modern-day Classic Mega Man game would be like, it pretty much sounded in my head like 11's style.

    2. Yeah, it feels like a Star force soundtrack.

A few songs are not bad, but it doesn't really work in a classic Megaman game.

    3. Yeah, it's like something straight out of a Star Force sequel.

Mega Man? Perhaps. But not classic Mega Man.

    4. @Anonymous 5:26PM @Azdrerios: MM11 sounds JACK **** like a Mega Man Star Force soundtrack. What are you people on?

I really hate the fact that Marika co-produced MMSF2 tracks under the helm of Yoshino Aoki, now people actually think she was responsible for the grand bulk of MMSF's sound direction to the point where you have people actually saying MM11 of all things sounds like MMSF just because that was her only past credential (yes I know you didn't say that but that's the only reason I can wrap my head around). Even though she had no compositions in 1 (nothing to do with it) and had absolutely nothing to do with 3 and even in 2 she barely did any tracks. Heck even the few tracks she did do in MMSF2 sound barely ANYTHING like MM11 tracks....

I'm sorry, I do not say this lightly or with any disrespect it's just the only way to describe my feelings on this situation, but anyone who thinks the general music direction of MM11 is akin to MMSF sounds fraudulent to me. I don't know what MM11 sounds like but it sure as heck isn't MMSF in general, not instrumentation, not composition, nothing.

    5. really? To me it really does'nt sounds like the kind of sounds in a Starforce games. Not the kind heard in previous classics games either, sure, but it was more like something new.

  6. I am mostly surprised by this decision, since megaman 11 soundtrack doesn't come close of any game preceeding it; It's specially bad if you take into account rockman 9 and 10 OST. But anyway it's good news. That award and the 1 million sales mark will definitely be important to Capcom on thinking about making a sequel.

  7. Loved the composition, but i think different (or at least more varied) kind of sounds could have been used. Overall i liked it, and i'm glad it won something.

  8. I liked it. It had so many good ones. All of the songs really fit the stages well and kept me moving fast. Also the stage select pumped me up to pick a boss. Very well done.

  9. I very much liked the majority of the soundtrack. The only song that really stood out to me as one I disliked was the title theme.

  10. I think MM 11's OST is awesome. If you listen to the OST, you'll notice that a lot of the music is made with environmental sounds related to the level's boss, such as "bubbling" in Acid man or "metal clanks" in Impact man. The OST has unique rearrangements on the second disc, and those are really cool remixes, which sometimes sound like completely new songs.

  11. I'm not complaining, if Rockman 11 gets more awards thats more potential curious people deciding to try it out.

But winning an award for the music? LMAO. Its prolly the worst soundtrack in mainline game. Maybe even the entire series.

  12. "Where do you stand? Let us know in the comments!"

    Worst MM soundtrack EVER.

And this is the series with Battle Network 4 and X7.

Even if the songs were ok, the music's genre was wrong...

Series is called ROCKman not generic TECHNOman.

    1. Worst? Not at all. Mega Man Zero 1's music has always been the most meh to me. Thankfully that got better as the franchise grew.
None of the classic series games have been the kind of rock I think people are referring to... Or at the VERY least a HUGE portion of those games soundtracks are not rock.

      Different strokes, I guess...

    2. Since when was classic Rockman known for actually being rock music in nature?

    3. @shrap

not the op and don't care about genres but I disagree with you. Zero 1's music is fantastic and one of my favorites.

Its morose, depressing and yet intense. It has a foreboding atmosphere that exerts a pressure and atmosphere of doom. It feels like its something out of Terminator.

There is no other MM soundtrack like it.

      Its nowhere near "meh"

In fact every single consective version of Crash became worse in the sequels.

In fact I'd go one step further and say the Zero games have the best music of the entire series.

    4. Yeah Zero 1 is very atmospheric without sacrificing composition and melody altogether. It's a great soundtrack in my opinion.

    5. MMBN4 I can agree with but MMX7's soundtrack was superb.

    6. @Mark Havoc:

Agreed. X7 was trash IMO, but the soundtrack was great and easily its sole redeeming quality.

      Delete
    7. X7's music isn't very good outside of 5 songs, two of which are Sigma battle themes.

Yet those 5 songs are SO GOOD they elevate it above the level of garbage.

BN4 and 11 are just bad.

    8. I disagree, X7's soundtrack is nearly entirely good imo, I like all the music, maybe Snipe Anteator's track needs to step it up a bit but overall I think it was a great ost. Ironically I think the Sigma battle themes are the ones I least return to or remember. I don't think I particularly like them but they are fine. Stage Select 2 is GODLIKE though.

  13. Was'nt particularly fond of it at first playthrough, but after listening to it i grew to like this soundtrack.

  14. I'm just trying to figure out what "Legend Sound Award" means? Like is it because its an old series, or that its kinda retro in style?

    ReplyDelete
  15. I think you pretty much nailed it with "some only liked certain tracks" because that's how most of the fanbase seems to feel about MM11's OST.

However! The thing that often seems to go unnoticed among fans is that the problem isn't necessarily in the compositions themselves, but rather the instruments used. In Youtube, there are A LOT of 8-bit remixes of MM11's songs and some of them are -insanely- Mega Man-esque.

Now I'm not saying MM11's soundtrack should've been 8-bit. Rather, the developers should have taken a bit more time to make sure the songs stood out more and felt more at home in the Mega Man classic series. It's as simple as that.

    1. ^ That's more or less exactly my opinion good compo, but the instruments made some tracks sonds more monotonous than they could have

      Delete
    2. No 8-bit remix can save the godawful song that is Bounce Man's theme

but other than that you're right, its the instrumentation that's off.

  16. I've noticed something this soundtrack loves to do, it's that swish build up exploding sound effect. Many segments of the melodies transition in this way especially with the swush sounds.

Anyway I like the OST it's fine, it's just very I don't know how to explain it, it just doesn't make me feel any kind of hype or emotion except a few tracks, which is usually the opposite of most MM soundtracks to me. Some tracks really grow on me though like Acid Man and Block Man and some I liked from the start like Fuse Man and Stage Select.

  17. Soundtrack is mediocre.

Its not the worst thing ever like some peeps said, but its not good either. Its simply background noise.

And yet, that's prolly the worst thing I could ever say about a mm game. Usually the music is the best part even in the "bad" games...

    ReplyDelete
  18. I'm not usually this blunt, but as Solid Snake once said… "… are you kidding me?!"

Like many people have pointed out, a lot of the Mega Man 11 soundtrack was just kind of… "there." There's a lot of decent themes, but personally, the only tracks that stuck with me were the title screen jingle and Wily Stage… except that I can't actually remember the latter. I just remember liking it. As for the former? I remember the NES-style arrangement someone made of that theme more than the original theme, itself. I legitimately don't remember any other track in the slightest… not even Fuseman's theme, which was the "promotional" theme* of the game, like with Nitroman from 10 and Tornadoman from 9. That, combined with the fact that the instrumentation of every song is, basically, exactly the same (not even "nostalgia for the NES/Famicom" can excuse that one) makes me wonder just how the game's soundtrack managed to win any awards. This all feels a bit like American Idol… but in Japan.

Sidenote: so many Capcom soundtracks, wow!

    * The "Extra Stage" theme was also used in the Launch Trailer, but that came later.
