Mega Man In Smash Bros. 4? It's Possible

Alright, maybe not Mega Man specifically, but Super Smash Bros. designer Masahiro Sakurai says the inclusion of Capcom characters in the next installment of the series isn't out of the question. The mere utterance of the word "Capcom" from Sakurai's mouth is all we need for hopes of Mega Man's appearance to rise:

"I can't say that it's entirely out of the realm of possibility that some Capcom character could appear in the next Smash Bros. The big problem, though, comes from the idea of trying to get characters from a completely different universe to fit with the style that has been dictated by Nintendo's characters in a fighting game." - Masahiro Sakurai

Mega Man's style, from any series, definitely adheres closely to the Nintendo mythology in terms of design and character. I won't say classic Mega Man specifically, but it was easy to mistake him for a first party Nintendo character back in the day. Classic Mega Man is pretty darn synonymous with Nintendo, if you ask me.

Sure, other Capcom characters could work in Smash 4, but, really, could you see Leon S. Kennedy or Jill Valentine going at it with Mario and Kirby? Er, maybe... but Mega Man certainly seems like a better, more appropriate fit amidst the already famous SSB roster.

  1. Rock and the others from his series are the only ones I would want from Capcom.

We absolutely cannot let Ryu (or as I like to call him Ryused) be in another fighting game.

Also Snake can get in but Capcom characters would conflict with Nintendo's? Sounds like bad excuses to me.

  2. I am never interesting in Smash Bros series at all. I think capcom should focus on new Megaman HD for WiiU. Its possible. :)

  3. Why do people keep thinking Megaman is a good fighting game character?

I'd rather see Zero or Gene.

I'm rootin' for ya, Classic Mega Man!

If you could shoehorn Solid Snake into SSBB, then you can easily turn a character as iconic from the NES days as Mega Man into a Smash Bros. fighter. Easily.

I could see both Mega Man and Ryu being Capcom representatives in SSB4.

    CHANCE.

Classic would be epic, X would kick ass, Zero would be cool, but I already have him with Dante and Deadpool in MvC, so MEH. EXE would be beast, Starforce would never happen; ditto ZX. Trigger might have a chance though, with all the Legends hype...

  7. Especially since most Mega Man games can be found on Nintendo console's, it would only make sense for him to appear. It's not like it's only been one or two, it's been A LOT.

    ReplyDelete
  8. He said basically the same thing for Brawl and look how that turned out. It's just empty PR promises.

Besides Capcom would make them put in Zero instead, you know it to be true.

  9. Um...
Add Frank West from Dead Rising!
    (This is a joke,if you can't tell)

Anyway,I've got high hopes about the said character being a Megaman character.Probably BN or SF since they have a variety of attacks and are on Nintendo consoles.

  10. Are you saying Leon and Jill wouldn't fit in with Mario and Kirby, but Samus, Snake, and Captain Falcon somehow do?

Give me Rock Volnutt, but throw in Zero and classic Rockman to please the masses. Frank West or Chuck Greene would be awesome too, as would Nathan "Radd" Spencer and Phoenix Wright.

And, Nintendo, I've been saying this since before Brawl: Mike Jones! MIKE JONES!

  11. Personally, I honestly expect that it'll end up being Ryu instead, since it is Capcom's choice, and that Ryu pretty much defines fighting games for them.

But yes, I do hope for MM too, but I just expect Ryu.

  12. mega man wasnt in mvc3 so why would he be in smash bros? capcom only cares about sf and re. they left mega man fall way behind from other greats like mario

  14. There's no way it won't happen this time.

Characters like Star Fox and Link can shoot, so it could work.

Smash Bros is the only fighting game I like.

  15. They can put Snake in Smash, they can put any incarnation of Rockman into Smash as well.

    ReplyDelete
  16. He better be in it. >:(

  17. Capcom only cares about SF and RE. MM seems to be trying to tag along these days. Not it's fault, but Capcom's own fault

    inb4Ryu/Dante/Leon-Chris/Zero.

Can we come outside now and teach the newbies how overrated Zero is?

  18. MegaMan or X are perfect for SSB because the main games of their series was released on Nintendo's consoles and other Capcom (exept for Ryu ) characters would not fit in ssb

  19. As awesome as it'd be to see Megaman in the game, in all honesty, I'd rather play as one of the Robot Masters. :B

  20. 1) After Snake got into Brawl, I don't really believe Nintendo has a serious intention of ensuring that characters from other companies fit alongside the Smash Bros cast.

    2) There are actually some other Capcom characters that might be considered suitable fits, like Viewtiful Joe.

So who knows. It would be great though. I'd personally love to see EXE.

  21. Now, while I was somewhat happy to see Zero get into the Capcom vs. Series (Because, let's face it, Zero seems more suited to fighting games.), I'd like Mega Man to fit somewhere into Smash 4.

Because, after all, Smash Bros is no ordinary fighting game. It's essentially a glorified Kirby engine with violence. So, I say "why not?"

    ReplyDelete
  22. Well, all I know is that I'm not getting my hopes up for anything. This new Super Smash Brothers game might end up being disappointing as far as the character roster is concerned. Up to this day, I still don't think there was any excuse whatsoever for leaving King K. Rool out of Brawl, despite making all these blatant references to him.

If they won't even add an character from one of their key franchises, then I highly doubt we'll see any Mega Man characters.

    ReplyDelete
  23. More likely than not, Viewtiful Joe is going to be put in before Megaman.

  24. Classic Mega Man has shown up in a number of fighter games already. I'd like to see X take the "Smash Bros." stage.

  25. The original Mega Man is the best candidate for a Smash Bros. title, imo. He's been there since the NES days, and has a LOT of history with the company. And since, at least to me, Smash Bros. is all about the retro goodness and rich Nintendo history (Ice Climbers, R.O.B., Pit, and not to mention all the trophies), he'd be best.

Now if only the Konami rep would be Simon Belmont instead of Snake (or maybe even alongside Snake), I'd be able to have the N-Team! Simon, Mega Man, and Pit! That would be awesome.

I, too, am not holding my breath on this, but I do think it's worth mentioning that when an interviewer asked Yoshihiro Ono about the possibility of Ryu ever appearing in Street Figther, Ono actually turned it around and said he thought that Mega Man would be a better fit. So there is SOME hope, at least.

  26. guys the chances are very very high imo, sonic wont be back for ssb4 obviously so they need some character as famous as sonic, megaman is the best option!! i would like to see X, more than zero or classic megaman, but the first megaman fits perfectly in ssb universe

    ReplyDelete
  27. "sonic wont be back for ssb4"

One of the best thing about the Megaman community is you meet so many people with inside info.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Er, I meant Smash Bros. not Street Fighter. Sorry. >.<

  29. Ok, so putting Snake and Kirby together in a game is fine but apparently it's a big problem fitting a Mega Man character in there. Jeez Sakurai, why is this such an issue for you?

It needs to be, no, it MUST be classic Mega Man. I will not accept any other incarnation.

    ReplyDelete
  30. X. He needs some love people!!!! :D

    ReplyDelete
  31. It would make the game more epic if they added Zero from the X series!!!

    ReplyDelete
  32. @Recoil: Indeed, the original Mega Man just makes the most sense. As for Sakurai, to give him the benefit of the doubt, he doesn't explicitly mention Mega Man, so who knows if he meant to say that he wouldn't fit in. It's possible he wasn't thinking of Mega Man (as sad as that sounds). But, again, Ono is pulling for Mega Man, so hey, that's something!

Man, I find it so ironic that Ono would be pulling for Mega Man. Ono, the guy that works on Street Fighter games, is pulling for Mega Man, yet Niitsuma was so adamant about keeping Mega Man out of MvC3.

  33. And afterwards:
    Nintendo vs. Capcom (mamma mia!)
Sega vs. Capcom (blue hedgehog vs. blue bomber, and material for a Archie crossover.)
Sega vs. Nintendo (not a sport this time)
Konami vs. Capcom (Jill and Hiryu vs. Dracula and Goemon?)
    Capcom's Video Game Clash!
The World vs. Capcom! (in 21XX)

  34. @Krazy Monkey

The reason King K. Rool never made Brawl is because Nintendo does not own the rights to his character, he is Rare's and that is the primary reason why he wasn't the villain in Donkey Kong Country Returns.

Rare parted ways with Nintendo a few years before Brawls release, and quite frankly if they never get back together we will never see KKR ever again in any game.

    ReplyDelete
  35. @JinzoNingenX:

...What? There are STILL people who believe this? Give me a break. Yes, Rare was brought out by Microsoft, but despite that, Nintendo still owns the rights to the Donkey Kong Country cast. If not, then King K. Rool, the Kremlings, and all the other characters wouldn't have appeared in the Konga series, King of Swing, Jungle Climber, or Barrel Blast. So, basically, that had nothing to do with why he wasn't in Brawl or Donkey Kong Country Returns. What it all came down to, is that the developers simply didn't want to include him. That was proven in an interview with one of the Retro Studios employees, where the guy said, and I quote, "Does K. Rool HAVE to come back?"

    ReplyDelete
  36. I didn't know that. huh. Well I always assumed lol. Well maybe the character just isn't popular enough, maybe we should have a petition to get him in the next, I mean every other character besides samus has a villain in the game. And I don't count ripley because you can't play as it.

    ReplyDelete
  37. i'm glad king k didn't make it in brawl and i hope he doesn't get in any other smash game. i fucking hate that guy

    ReplyDelete
  38. king k rule owned by rare? why was he in mario super sluggers then?

  39. DOCTOR LIGHT FOR SSB4!

  40. After all the false hopes we had for MvC3 after the votes and X (and several other variations of Mega Man) came out in the lead, I'm not really blowing too much hope into this one. It would be awesome and, I hope given both the Japanese and US MvC3 votes, Capcom is now fully aware of the general population's demand for X, I can really only see them ignoring him, again, for either classic or Zero. I think this is just corperate fooey to shut us up now that Nintendo announced the newest SSB is coming.

In light of this.. If, for whatever reason, X makes it in THIS one? Consider me poor. I will then require a WiiU and a 3DS... *sigh*

I for one think mega man would be an excellent addition for Ssb4 considering that he made his debut on the nintendo consoles first before any other platform, after all he is an iconic video game legend like mario link, samus and pit ect. So far as characters like ryu being in the series, I don't think that's likely to happen as ryu has been in enough fighting crossovers already. Besides he would be Waaay too overpowered and broken to the point where he's almost unbeatable making him an unfair advantage in the game altogether. The only "ryu" I would rather see make the ssb4 cut is none other than ryu hyabusa from ninja gaiden series since it first originated on Nes/Snes back in the 80s and 90s, that and ninja gaiden dragon sword was made on nintendo Ds, and let's not forget his upcoming Wii U/3ds title ninja gaiden: Razors edge. Also team ninja were the ones who helped nintendo develop metroid other M for Wii, I think hyabusa is a better suggestion than street fighter ryu don't you think? Other character additions that would be awesome in ssb4 are geno from SMRPG (He HAS TO BE IN IT)king K rool, krystal, zero. I think lucario will be replaced by zoroarc since she's 5th gen.

  42. nintendo plz put megaman x in the game he would make a really fricken amazing addition to the roster, megaman is awesome so many people even mod the charcters in fighting games just so megaman could be in it, you could work with him, he would be easy to give moves and a final smash to, his costumes could be based on his armors or his attacks could be some of his armors, nova strike from ultimate armor could be his final smash, he has alot of advantages that you guys can work with

    ReplyDelete
  43. I honestly think Mega Man Classic or X would be Capcom's most likely candidates.

Consider first the fact that MMC has moves that can fit into the Smash format: Shooting, uppercut, sliding - moves that have been used by other existing characters. Give him a few special weapons from MM1 or MM2, and his moveset is done. X wouldn't be too difficult either.

Also, IMO, MMC was dropped form the latest MvC roster because the designers probably had a hard time creating a high-powered moveset for him. This means that he should be able to be on par with the Smash roster. X is a DLC skin for Zero, but that doesn't really count with many people (myself included).

It should be Classic or X, as other incarnations (MMZero, SF, ZX, EXE) wouldn't really be as popular by most gamers. Legends would be up in the air.

As for any other Capcom character - Ryu, the other most popular, probably wouldn't work because he would have to be 'nerfed' in order to be balance with Mario and the other Smashers.

  44. i think viewtiful joe would mkae a great character for this type of gaming.

  45. I would like both megaman and zero (preferabley zero from the gba series)megaman moveset maybe similar to samus or something like that and than instead of just different colored megamans y shoul be like diferenten skins ( classic, x, volnutt, Exe.,star force , model x )and zero uses different weapons like z saber , buster shot , shield boomerang ,chain rod , recoil rod and zero knuckle. he could have skins to like classic zero , zero exe. model z and model zx and the alredy use gba zero or modern zero i don'n really know whats the proper name sorry :(

    ReplyDelete
  46. I would definitely love to see Megaman X be put into this. Another big thing would be to remove the trip. Whoever came up with the idea for the trip is a bloody moron and all who agreed with that idea are fools. X has a huge list of moves, so there is no reason why he couldn't make it in as far as that reason goes. I also love Sonic, so I hope they put him back in, and remove at least SOME of the ridiculous lag he has on his moves. DDD has moves (tilts) that put Sonic to shame. How on earth does that make sense?

    ReplyDelete
  47. Classic megaman 8 and Protoman would be great two candidates. I hope Ssb4 have team specials with Two characters.
