What Are the Chances of Mega Man 9 & 10 Going Retail?

Yesterday, Capcom announced the Xbox 360 exclusive Capcom Digital Collection, which bundles eight XBLA games on a single disc including 1942: Joint Strike and Super Street Fighter II, among others. Fantastic idea.... just one problem: no Mega Man.

Inexplicably omitted from the collection, the Blue Bomber's finest digital titles; Mega Man 9 and Mega Man 10. Naturally, the news has caused a bit of a knee-jerk reaction. You know, the usual "Capcom has abandoned Mega Man!!111" spiel.

But all is not entirely a lost cause. In a recent post at the Ask Capcom forums, Christian Svensson fielded a question on whether one could expect a disc-based Mega Man 9/10 bundle in the future. His reply:

"Just two games, probably not. We'll see how the first compilation does and if it hits expectations, maybe we'll take a stab at a 2nd one that could potentially include those others (and some other stuff too)."

It's not a stretch to imagine a hypothetical Capcom Digital Collection Volume 2. After all, the current collection is missing out on Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 and Bionic Commando: Rearmed. Throw Mega Man 9 and 10 in the mix, and you've got yourself a mighty fine product

So where do you sit with all of this? Would you like to see Mega Man 9/10 finally receive a disc release and fill that void on your Mega Man shelf? Sound off in the comments! More info on the Digital Collection can be found at Capcom Unity.

Thanks for the tip, Jimb0!

  1. I would much rather see some sort of definitive Mega Man collection that literally includes ALL the Mega Man games from the original series, even the rarer stuff, and have 9 and 10 thrown in as well. The collection to end all collections.

  3. Actually, I'd rather see Capcom release the games for the NES as a collector's item that still works with the NES.

I'd also like a million dollar flying pig. So, there you go.

  4. I'd like to see MM 1-10 on one disk all in 8-bit with the features of Mega Man 10's weapon switching, plus the original 7 & 8 and HD remixes of all ten titles. But, I know that's a dream. NAd like TTL said, Million dollar flying pig.

  5. I want an enhanced remake of Super Adventure Rockman for the Wii and/or PS3 with the possibility of multiple subs.

  6. since these "arcade" compilations are excluse to 360, and since most of the downloadable games Capcom has released (bar MM9, 10, and Bionic Commando reArmed) suck... not really.

  7. A compilation disk of downloadable titles sounds kind of interesting, but even if Mega Man 9 and Mega Man 10 were to be added, I wouldn't purchase it for those alone, since I already own them for WiiWare. It honestly doesn't matter to me whether or not those games become retail/physical copies.

  8. All I'm hearing is more "maybes" and empty promises to anything Mega Man related.

  9. If they do include MMs 9 and 10 in a future collection, I hope both games's DLC's also in there.

Wonder why those games (or at least one of them) weren't included? Getting some older titles out of the way first?

  10. You call it knee-jerk, but it does make a lot of sense. Mega Man used to be (if I'm not mistaken) Capcom's flagship franchise. Or at least one of the biggest ones. Not including him at all in a compilation?

    Laughable.

  11. Before everyone goes crazy remember that Mega Man 9 & 10 were developed by Inti Creates not Capcom

So there is likely some agreement between those companies about how the games are to be distributed.

Personally, I'd love to see an entire collection of MM classic and X available for download on XBL but that will probably never happen.

As another poster already stated: shut up and take my money!

I owned all of the games through NES, SNES and both Playstation(s), it would be REALLY NICE if I could just download them to my XBox 360 any time I wanted to pick up and play again.

  12. So another Mega Man snub. CAPCOM! Y U NO WANT MY MONEY?!

Then again, I still don't have an Xbox/PS3/Wii, so yeah, CAPCOM! I CAN'T GIVE YOU MONEY AT THE MOMENT 'CAUSE I'M SAVING FOR A CONSOLE! BUT WHEN I HAVE ONE, I WANNA SEE MORE MEGA MAN LOVE!!! Like Mega Man 9/10 on retail. Or better yet, a FULL collection, with all Mega Man classic games in the mix plus extras in/out of gameplay, or even better, an HD remake of every game!

But yeah. This all remain as dreams. *sigh*

Being developed by an outside company has nothing to do with inclusion. Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix was developed by Backbone Entertainment, Final Fight Double Impact was developed by Proper Games, Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 by Fatshark... Actually, pretty much none of these titles were developed by Capcom in-house, they were just produced, licensed or distributed by Capcom.

The reason MM9 and 10 aren't on this disk is because Capcom didn't want them on it. That might not be a bad thing, if Capcom still considers them profitable as stand-alone titles.

Never did I think I would hear someone say "Bionic Commando Rearmed" and "sucks" in the same sentence (unless there was a "2" after "Rearmed" maybe)! Easily the best or second-best video game remake of all time, maybe Metroid Zero Mission surpasses it but that's it.

Maybe they're saving MM for a future collection. Something to be released in his 25th anniversary year perhaps?

  15. Correction: You misspelled "Bionic Commando Rearmed".

Also, if Rockman 9 and 10 go retail, I'll get them if they're released for NES.

  16. I'd rather have this collection released for PS3 as well. As for Mega Man not being included? Well, not surprised. They could have been to make an even 10 ten, but nope. Not gonna happen. Now it would be silly to make a physical disc with just two little 8-Bit style games on it. Having that been said, afraid they missed the boat with this one. Or were denied admittance. Whatever you prefer to believe

  17. @turianx9 if you want an 8-bit 7 and 8, that's already been taken care of. google is your friend :)

    @ first anon

if it's going to include 8 again, it should be the sega saturn version, and NOT the PS1 version. the saturn version has cutman and woodman as hidden bosses.

  18. This is great news because the day will come when these games stop being distributed through Xbox live - if not because Capcom/MS chooses to put them down for whatever reason, then because Xbox Live will stop exising. And yes, that day will come, just that no one's thinking about it.

Hopefully we'll see the MM games there too. Hopefully other companies will do this also, so these downloadble-only games won't be lost to everyone after they stop being distributed - and they all will someday.

Also MvC2's re-release is part of a limited distribution deal they have with Marvel. Sven has gone said that distribution of the game will end someday, so I'm pretty sure that would prevent them from being able to put the game the actual game on a disc for "indefinite" distribution. The most they could do is sell a boxed "purchase code" for MvC2 like they did with Gamestop for the PS3 version.

  19. Anon 1 nailed it. I'd rather have a Megaman collection, rather than a capcom collection. I don't care about any of their other titles at all.

  20. See this is what makes no sense....

You call Megaman a leading brand for you, yet when the oppurtunity comes to spread his name or raise awareness, you don't do it. That's not how you f*cking get attention.

Putting more Megaman reps in UMvC3 to equal the amount of RE and SF reps is treating him as a key brand. Putting Megaman 9 and 10 on this collection would be treating him as a key brand.

What you are doing right now IS NOT showing it's a key brand.

If it's an issue with Inti Creates, then work out a new deal with them. It can't be that f*cking hard to do. Your essentially making raw profit off of this.

The point is that there may have been a deal specifically between Capcom and Inti Creates, from experience I can tell you that there's a very real possibility that things are tied up legally.

At any rate, I don't subscribe to the spite theory per se as there are a lot of other possibilities... perhaps Capcom is saving up its Mega Man titles for next year (y'know the big 25 year anniversary), perhaps we will finally get a new cross-platform collection. Maybe the team the could make the games disc ready are busy with other tasks. Maybe they tried but missed the deadline.

No one knows for sure, so we're left guessing. Of course with all the other bad Mega Man news this year it doesn't help Capcom's image.

  22. Sure...

Let's test the waters on these digital collections...

Sounds sickeningly like the time they were "testing MegaMan's Market Appeal" by releasing Powered Up and Maverick Hunter X exclusively on PSP, the LAST place they could possibly succeed.

They're gonna take shit from fans either way, Capcom should just man up and admit that they're deliberately avoiding all things MegaMan.

  23. I'd love a physical copy of megaman 1-10..... on a console I own .... which is everything but Xbox hahha

  24. To be fair, this compilation Capcom is offering is pretty terrible. And not because Mega Man 9 & 10 are missing.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I think this collection is pretty rad, just because of Super Street Fighter II and Puzzle Fighter. Those are excellent games. It's not just 9 and 10 that are absent though...there are plenty of other download games they could include, and again, maybe we'll see those in a "Volume 2."

If Bionic Commando Rearmed, Marvel vs. Capcom 2, Mega Man 9 and 10 alone got into a pack, I'd buy those just because it's awesome. Throwing in Street Fighter III Third Strike would be sweet too. Maybe the Phoenix Wright series too? They did release those games on WiiWare, and it would be awesome to have them in a collection disc on a console.
