Bass Mode, Special Stage 1 DLC On Wii Today

For your downloading pleasure, the first batch of Mega Man 10 DLC hits Wiis this morning with Bass Mode and Special Stage 1. Bass Mode, as the title suggests, let's you play through the games as Bass, complete with his own unqiue set of abilities (200 WiiPoints) and Special Stage 1 is playing host to the return of Mega Man Killer Enker of Dr. Wily's Revenge fame (100 WiiPoints).

The 360 and PS3 versions will be getting both DLC a bit later this week: April 7 for the 360 (160 MS Points for Bass, 80 MS for special stage 1) and April 8 for PS3 ($1.99 for Bass, $0.99 for special stage 1).

Enjoy!

  1. I've downloaded them both about an hour ago, and they're both pretty neat. Bass is definitely NOT "overpowered" like some people have said he is. Playing as Bass is definitely a lot harder than it looks, since his Buster shots are considerably weaker than both Mega Man's and Proto Man's. For example, any enemy that would take one hit for the two of them to kill, it takes two for Bass to be able to destroy them. Any enemy that takes two hits to kill with them, takes four hits with Bass, and so on.

As for the Special Stage, dear, GOD is it hard. People used to say that Fake Man's stage in Mega Man 9 was hard, but it's NOTHING compared to Enker's. Enker's Special Stage makes Fake Man's seem like a walk in the park, from what I've played. I've only managed to get to Enker twice so far, and both times, I've failed to beat him. I'll get him next time, though...

  2. YES! Special Stage 1 is a remake of MM1GB's fortress stage! Some changes here and there, but it is essencially the same :D

  5. In about two more tries after my earlier comment, I've finally managed to defeat Enker. In fact, I've done it at least twice so far, which is entirely contrary to my earlier comment. The Mirror Buster is a pretty awesome weapon. Due to the fact that I've never gotten very far in Dr. Wily's Revenge, I've never actually fought Enker and obtained that weapon, so I thought that it was going to be your average shield weapon that would simply reflect enemy projectiles (much like the Proto-Shield), but it actually did more than that. It actually works similar to King's shield from Mega Man & Bass, where it absorbs projectiles, and sends back a powerful laser beam of some sort. Again, that's a pretty awesome weapon.

  6. The stage and Enker both actually struck me as easy. The block puzzle was what gave me some trouble, really, and a fall later on where theres two Count Bombs, a small platform, and a bed of spikes. But one of the dots in the wall in the screen before the latter helped me figure out where to fall and I got the blocks down through rote memorization. Enker's problem is that he's predictable, but then of course I didn't figure that out until after a couple deaths myself! But I think I could beat him consistently now.

Also, have to agree, Forte isn't as overpowering as most people might think he is. At least not to me. Maybe I need to use him more.

  7. My thoughts:

Enker's stage isn't hard (though it is very fun), but Enker himself definitely is. He's been upgraded. He does a lot more damage now and he's QUICK. Very hard to react to how he's going to cross the screen each time. I've found that a pretty safe move no matter what he does, though, is to jump over him in the middle of the screen. That way he passes under you if he dashes, and you just barely clear him if he jumps across the screen. If he stays in the middle of the screen and attacks, though, well...

The Mirror Buster is just as powerful and awesome as I remember it being in Mega Man: Dr. Wily's Revenge, and I'm very happy that only Mega Man gets it. Makes him a little more unique and powerful than the others (which, IMO, is as it should be).

I LOVE that Enker's stage is a remake of his stage from Dr. Wily's Revenge with some Mega Man 10 elements thrown in. Great, fun stage, and easy to run through once you've seen it a couple times.

I'm also very happy to see that Bass is not as overpowered as it initially appeared he would be. In fact, I think he's harder to play as than Mega Man. His buster is weaker than you think it is, and the rapid-fire doesn't always make up for that. Treble Boost is also really weak, surprisingly. His dash would be great, but I have to say I think Capcom really dropped the ball by not making it also activate via double-tap. Having it assigned to down+jump is just far too unwieldy to use often. I really wish they'd patch that, but they won't. In any case, Bass' taking half damage really helps, as you'll be taking a lot of it since you can't move while shooting. :P That said, Bass does make some minibosses and bosses pitifully easy (while he makes others harder). The Crab Puncher and Wily Machine 10 were ridiculously easy with just the Bass Buster.

Bass' story is, as expected, disappointing. I guess the best we fans can surmise is that he went rogue for good after Mega Man & Bass, tiring of Wily after he betrayed him with King (not to mention how he'd feel about Zero after seeing his blueprints). I guess enough was enough for Bass. Explains his absence in Mega Man 9 as well. Doesn't really explain his not trying to fight Mega Man even once, though. Doesn't he still want to be the strongest?

  12. Does anyone know if Enker has a weakness? I'm having some trouble taking him out this time around with just the buster.

Nope, the Mega Buster is the only weapon that's effective against Enker. Punk and Ballade, on the other hand, might have other weaknesses, like they did in the Game Boy games.
