Rockman X3 Prototype Dump is Coming Along

Hey, remember that Rockman X3 prototype (08/23/1995) that showed up not too long ago? Well we secured it. It's in the hands of a good pal of mine. Right now he's seeking out the hardware needed for a dump. Once everything is in place, we'll release it publicly. I'll be debuting the file right here on the blog.

In the interim please enjoy some more footage. This is an early version of Neon Tiger/Shining Tigerd's stage with a few graphical differences (the background, mostly). Tigerd's sprite is much different than what we ended up with, too. He actually looks intimidating!

I can't say when the dump will go public but it will be worth it. Other differences to look forward to include Byte/Mandareera's early sprite and a fully-intact unused gate in Blast Hornet's stage (previously seen on the back of X3's NTSC box). Stay tuned!

  3. Nice! Can't wait to test it out and see what differences there are. There could always be things hidden in the rom, too. I found a copyright notice from an X-Men game in the Rockman 7 sample way back when. It's like a treasure hunt!

  5. Boy X3's music is some of my least favorite in the whole X series. It all sounds so half-finished and super repetitive to me.

But this prototype is neat. I'd love to see what other changes there are from the finished product!

    1. Really? I personally dug X3's soundtrack since its wicked metal influenced. Blast Honet, Volt Catfish, & Gravity Beetle have some sweet tracks.

    2. The music in the early X games became much less complex and more repetitive once the Alph Lyla group stopped producing them after X1. After that it was just one composer doing the music, if I'm not mistaken: Yuki Iwai for X2, and Kinuyo Yamashita for X3. They're still preferable to me over the later soundtracks, give or take a handful of songs, but X1's soundtrack is the most robust.

    3. X3 and X6 have the best soundtrack in the X series hands down. X1 somehow I find to be the most boring and repetitive, along with the game and gameplay itself. (Lame upgrades, little replay value etc..)

  12. What was the point of announcing this even? It's ridiculous how you guys have just completely forgotten about this and provided no updates. I wish you hadn't even announced anything, at least we wouldn't have gotten our hopes up.

At the very least, post more footage on youtube of the game but you guys won't even do that. I've definitely lost some respect for this site for how you led us on.

    1. Because shit happens and we all have lives.

It's not been forgotten. We've hit several technical snags, namely, the Cx4 chip. The chip has made it difficult to dump it proper. We're consulting collectors and others well-versed in the SNES/SFC for help. Investments must be made to acquire specific (and expensive) hardware for the process.

There's been no updates on the blog because there's literally nothing new to update you on. That's it. The intent has always been "I can't say when the dump will go public but it will be worth it." When it's ready, it'll be ready and you'll know about it. Period.

It's disrespectful to all of us who've invested not only time but money into getting this out to you for *free*. Your assumption is one based on pre-convenived notions with little regard to my (and the proto's owner) character. We don't forget; we don't screw people over; we follow through with our due diligence. This you would know if you've been here long.

I'm sorry we haven't met your expectations. But again, unforeseen complications arose. Chill and wait, man.

    2. As for additional YouTube footage, that's not my jurisdiction. I'll pass it along but no promises.
