"Mighty Gunvolt" Announced (Mighty No. 9 x Gunvolt x Gal Gun)

UPDATE: Mighty Gunvolt is indeed a thing. It will be available in Japan this Winter, free for those that purchase Azure Striker Gunvolt from now until November 19th. Additional images can be seen at the game's official homepage and Game Watch. No word yet on availability outside of Japan.

Original post: According to early leaks from Weekly Famitsu, Inti Creates announced a new Nintendo 3DS title dubbed Mighty Gunvolt. The game is a crossover with Comcept's Mighty No. 9, Inti Creates' Mega Man Zero/ZX spiritual-successor Azure Strike Gunvolt, and bishojo shooter Gal Gun. Yes, Gal Gun.

While details are scant, we can confirm the game is a downloadable title featuring three playable characters: Mighty No. 9's Beck, Gunvolt's titular Gunvolt, and Gal Gun's Ekoro, the apprentice angel. The Gunvolt content will reportedly feature an "'80s style graphic design."

That's all that can be said at the moment. More details and images are expected to surface soon. We'll keep you posted.

  1. "What's more, the Gunvolt content will feature a '80's style graphic design.'"

So, in other words, it's going to be in 8-bit?

  4. I really hope that is leak is fake or at least a misinterpretation. GalGun?! Really?

  5. Wasn't sure what Gal Gun was until I looked it up on Youtube.... & now I'm wondering WTF am I looking at?!

  6. Talk about fake it 'til you make it...

  7. I should be happy that mighty #9 is like a successor of megaman, but why is beck been used so many times!? Like i feel im getting tired of him already! Theres no game yet but a 3d cartoon is a work in process, a costume in ninja gaiden z, and now what!? This cross over... Jeeezz... Inafune should calm down making this kind of decisions

  8. What I just saw cannot possibly be GalGun, WTF was that? I'm asking you Japan, I want an answer! And why are you mixing it up with Mn9 of all things?

Although I wish I had a GalGun to use like that... But still.

  9. Really? More whining about Gal Gun? You know, that game was the springboard for Game Exchange. Perhaps instead of being so judgmental that you have to amalgamate EVERY SINGLE COUNTRY in the world to the U.S., maybe you should actually LEAVE and visit somewhere besides your own back yard. If you even partly understood Japans cultural life cycle, games like Gal Gun becoming popular would make sense. But God forbid we try to understand other cultures, and just judge everyone by our own standards.

Oh yeah, this game? I'm down for it.

    1. I think the reason for the complaints here, in particular, makes a lot of sense. When contrasted with games and the general audience that would be attracted to MegaMan, and by extension Mighty No. 9, Gal Gun is a bit more shocking. This isn't all that unlike someone who heavily favors action movies looking down at romantic comedies. They're just not that into them. Granted, it's a bit unfair to completely deny a genre of having any value just because you're not interested in it.

It should be an interesting crossover to say the least. I'm really curious how they'll mix the games considering how the world of Gal Gun doesn't seem to be action oriented at all. If it were something like Yumeria that would make a lot of sense because the characters still have fighting abilities... But Gal Gun seems to be fairly harmless. At least at first glance. Maybe it'll play up the comedic aspect? Hm, I guess I could also see Ekoro getting enemies to fight for them by making them fall in love.

    2. ."If you even partly understood Japans cultural life cycle"

You mean perversion, and sexual attraction to anime characters? I'd rather not understand that part.

    3. I really like you Gaijin Goomba, and don't take this the wrong way, but come on, man. There is no interesting cultural aspect or nuance to justify Gal Gun as anything but a fanservice game and you know it. I'm not a backwards hick for believing that.

And yeah there is room in the industry for those types of games, and I'm not gonna knock their fans... but I'm still embarrassed...

Do you have an episode on the subject to tell me otherwise? I am very open to hear your side of the argument, but a quick google search didn't find one.

Lol, pretty much. Just because the ecchi/hentai industry of Japan is ridiculously huge doesn't excuse Gal Gun. It is what it is, and trying to defend it just because it's "Japanese" shows how biased you are.

Also, props for generalizing all the previous users as being from the U.S., as if Canadians, Europeans, or heck, even Japanese couldn't or wouldn't be disgusted about it either.

  10. Just Googled Gal Gun, now I wish I hadn't. Yuck.

As for this news, it's really weird. I have never seen a game character appear in so many media spin-offs without being released in his own game first. Has this ever happend before?

  11. Man. Judging from the reactions to Gal Gun it's a good thing nobody knows about Rosenkreuzstilette.

    1. There's a decent number of people who are aware of it. I think it's even featured on the Megaman Wiki.

    2. Rosenkreuzstilette is in no way near the level of "echiness" that GalGun had.

  12. I hope there's voices in it. o(^-^)o
I looked at the Japanese side of the wiki link for Gal Gun, and found out that Yui Horie (my favorite voice actress and singer) voices Ekoro, so this could be the closest I get to having her voice a character in a Rockman game...

    1. It's a shame. I've played the 360 version of it when it released. Apparently her seiyuu is in the later released PS3 edition.

  13. Just shoot me. Just freaking shoot me.

I just watched someone play about 10 minutes of this and after the utter shock of another 8-bit Mega Man-alike wore off, I stopped watching. Can we just... not do this anymore? Am I the only person getting extremely sick of this recycled garbage? It's a blantant Mega Man knock-off. And not a very good one. In fact, it reminds me pretty heavily of "Rocman X" or "Rockman DX3". Except this is straight from Inti Creates...

I just get the impression Comcept and Inti Creates are just screwing around at this point. I really, really do. And don't even get me started on the whole "license whoring" thing. Again.

    1. Knock off? Hardly. It's a tribute. A tribute to the genre that spawned MN0.9 and Gunvolt.

How are they screwing around? These are two companies that desperately want to work on a Mega Man game but can't. So they make their own.

    2. Tribute?! They steal fans' souls and make them their slaves!! #Kappa

And it's that level of desperation that makes me so infuriated. Give it a rest, Inafune and Inti. You're killing your new dreams before the old ones have even completely died.

    3. Surprise! Some people like 8-bit platformers and some people don't. Get over it.

    4. This is just a free minigame made for the lulz for those who buy Gunvolt, you're maybe getting a little too worked-up over almost nothing.

I'd understand you better if you were freaking-out about MMxSF, the only anniversary "game" that Capcom managed to put out for the real Megaman franchise, for free at least.

I loved Shovel Knight. But this is hardly a Shovel Knight. As I said, this reminds me of not one, but a couple pirate games.

I think those two statements are irrelevant to what I was saying. For one, Mighty Gunvolt isn't an "commercial fan game" like Street Fighter x Mega Man was. Both games are free, though this one requires a purchase. But no, my point is that this is a crappy, knock-off Mega Man clone that somehow surpasses the blatant fanboyishness of the two knock-offs involved.

Of course, that's just my opinion.

  14. Looks like I was right about it being 8-bit after all. I gotta say, this doesn't look half bad.
