Mighty No. 9 PC Beta Launches Today

At this year's PAX, Keiji Inafune's panel played host to another look at Mighty No. 9. Audiences were treated to two new trailers: the first, a gameplay b-roll featuring new stages and transformations (Mighty No. 7), and the second focusing entirely on "Online Race Battle" mode.

What's more, Inafune and his team announced that a beta version of the game will be sent out to eligible backers (beta reward tier or higher) within 24 hours. Though the beta is only one stage, Inafune states additional stages will be made available at a later date. Feedback from fans will help influence the final game.

If you're not a backer, Inafune hopes to have the game up on Steam Early Access to share it with a broader audience. Nothing is set in stone yet, so keep those fingers crossed. For everyone, check your inboxes!

Lastly, Comcept is also holding on a special event called "Mighty Month,” where fans can celebrate the one-year anniversary of the Mighty No. 9 Kickstarter through contests, trivia, interviews, and more. For more details, hit up the official forums.

Azure Striker Gunvolt - Rockman Corner Review

Azure Striker Gunvolt for the Nintendo 3DS is a brand new game from Mega Man father-figure Keiji Inafune and Inti Creates. Given the powers involved, one could easily write this one off simply as a spiritual successor to Mega Man Zero and Mega Man ZX (both developed by Inti). But Gunvolt is more than that. The "guns ablaze" spirit of Inti Create's popular Mega Man offshoots is indeed alive and well here; but at its core, Gunvolt shines as something new entirely.

Get Your Mighty Gunvolt Download Codes Here (Update: All Gone!)

In addition to an advance copy of Azure Striker Gunvolt for review, 8-4 has graciously provided me with three download codes for Mighty Gunvolt. If you're lucky, you'll be able to play this fun 8-bit romp hours in advance! For everyone else, Mighty Gunvolt is free with the purchase of Gunvolt.

The codes will be posted below throughout the night. If you manage to use one, drop a note in the comments (so we know you’ve used it). For the sake of keeping this giveaway manageable, unrelated comments will not be published at this time. These codes are valid in North America only!

  • Code 1 of 3: A05JV7372ASM5FFE (GONE)
  • Code 2 of 3: A05JV7381P1HXC2R  (GONE)
  • Code 3 of 3: A05JV73935KW0C7V  (GONE)
.....

That's all of them. Thanks for participating!

Mega Man X3 Blasts Its Way to Wii U Virtual Console

Capping off the "Mega August" festivities, Mega Man X3 has launched on the Wii U Virtual Console. As always, this Super NES classic will run you $7.99. Unlike X1 and X2, X3 wasn't originally available on Wii, so there won't be an upgrade discount this time around. Just throwing that out there.

Looking ahead to future North America Virtual Console releases, we've got Mega Man 7, Battle Network 2 & 3, and Mega Man Zero 1 & 2. We'll be seeing a majority of those before the end of the year. More updates when they become available!

Sample the Mega Man 2 Medley from Super Smash Bros.

Crisp and clean, devoid of distracting sound effects. For your listening pleasure, here's Nintendo's official release of Mega Man's Super Smash Bros. 3DS/Wii U theme. Namco's Rio Hamamoto oversaw the arrangement. He is perhaps best known for his work on the Tekken franchise, among others.

Gotta say, listening to this non-stop brings back wonderful feelings of Mega Man's initial reveal. The first time that footage rolled... man, the hype was real. So good!

Inafune Discusses Mighty Gunvolt's Development, Confirms DLC

We're just a few days away from the North American launch of Azure Striker Gunvolt. As previously reported, everyone who picks up the game within the next three months gets a free copy of Mighty Gunvolt. This little 8-bit romp features no less than seven stages and three playable characters, including Mighty No. 9's Beck. Not a bad value, no? Well it gets better.

In a recent Inti Creates podcast, executive producer Keiji Inafune and producer Takuya Aizu confirmed the development of downloadable content for Mighty Gunvolt. While Mr. Aizu was hesitant to divulge the details, Inafune was more than willing to spill the beans (6:03). "I want to see more stages you can only clear as Beck," he says. "You're getting a first taste of Beck. I think fans would really like that. So, there you go, Inti. It's in your hands."

And there you have it: additional Beck stages. We'll have more details on the subject soon...

Here's Nearly an Hour's Worth of "Mighty Gunvolt" Gameplay

Mighty Gunvolt, Inti Creates' three-way collaboration between Mighty No. 9, Azure Strike Gunvolt and Gal Gun, has launched on Japan's Nintendo 3DS eShop (on the very day it was announced, no less). As we patiently wait to hear details on an English release (edit: here we go!), VixyNyan has recorded nearly an hour's worth of gameplay to tide you over.

As you'll see, the spirit of classic Mega Man gameplay is alive and well. See it after the jump!

"Mighty Gunvolt" Announced (Mighty No. 9 x Gunvolt x Gal Gun)

UPDATE: Mighty Gunvolt is indeed a thing. It will be available in Japan this Winter, free for those that purchase Azure Striker Gunvolt from now until November 19th. Additional images can be seen at the game's official homepage and Game Watch. No word yet on availability outside of Japan.

Original post: According to early leaks from Weekly Famitsu, Inti Creates announced a new Nintendo 3DS title dubbed Mighty Gunvolt. The game is a crossover with Comcept's Mighty No. 9, Inti Creates' Mega Man Zero/ZX spiritual-successor Azure Strike Gunvolt, and bishojo shooter Gal Gun. Yes, Gal Gun.

While details are scant, we can confirm the game is a downloadable title featuring three playable characters: Mighty No. 9's Beck, Gunvolt's titular Gunvolt, and Gal Gun's Ekoro, the apprentice angel. The Gunvolt content will reportedly feature an "'80s style graphic design."

That's all that can be said at the moment. More details and images are expected to surface soon. We'll keep you posted.

8-Bit Legends 3 Prototype Version Gameplay Trailer

In anticipation for its release on August 30th, the team behind the Mega Man Legends 3: Prototype Version 8-bit demake have rolled out a new gameplay trailer. It's the most in-depth look at the game yet, offering a peek at various missions. Once again the sprite work that's going on here looks great, Barrett's actions in particular being the icing on the cake. It's interesting to see how these moves bring a nice twist to the classic formula.

Check back on August 30th for the release... it's free!

Battle Chip Challenge Now Available on NA Virtual Console

The second week of "Mega August" is upon us and it brings Mega Man Battle Chip Challenge on Wii U. The midquel, which takes place between Battle Network 3 and Battle Network 4, will run you $6.99 from the Nintendo eShop.

Three games down, two to go. Will next week bring us Mega Man 6? Or Mega Man X3? Personally, I'm rooting for the later. Then again it couldn't hurt to have MM6 out of the way (thus completing the NES lineup). We'll just have to wait and see!

Super Smash Bros. - Sneak Peek at Mega Man's Custom Moves

Coming from the Super Smash Bros. Director's Room:

"Pic of the day. Here's Beat! And Plant Barrier!! These are some of Mega Man's custom special moves. You might also be able to use some signature boss-like moves from the Mega Man series, too."

As explained in an earlier update, "each fighter possesses four special attacks; standard special, side special, up special, and down special. Each of these can be customized, however, so there are three variations for each direction. This means there are two classifications for special attacks: basic and custom."

Question is, what other "signature boss-like moves" (or support characters) can we expect? Board the speculation train and sound off in the comments below!

And really, not much else to say than that!

Rockman Xover Gets Another New Boss This Week

Rockman Xover players, take note. The Battle Tower returns this week on August 12th with a new set of perils. If you can survive the ascent, you'll eventually come face to face with a new boss -- Verde R.

Verde R is the third member of Nero's inner circle. As the "heavenly beast" theme dictates, we're to assume he's themed after the vermilion bird. On the heels of Rosso M (fire) and Blu D (water), Verde's element is most likely wind/air. That would leave our inevitable thunder/electric type to the fourth and final Battle Tower boss.

An interesting note, speculation suggests all four bosses may even combine into one super killing machine (ala Godkarmachine O Inary). It's an exciting prospect for sure. We'll keep you posted, naturally.

Mega Man 5 Hits Wii U VC; StreetPass Puzzle Now Available

Capcom and Nintendo are kicking off "Mega August" with the Wii U Virtual Console debut of Mega Man 5. The NES classic will run you $4.99.

What's more, the Mega Man StreetPass puzzle is now available on Nintendo 3DS in both North America and Europe. Simply update your console to firmware version 8.1.0-19 and its yours. From there, go out those Miis for panels!

"Mega August" continues next week with a randomly selected Mega Man game. Again, those are Mega Man 6, Mega Man X3 and Mega Man Battle Chip Challenge.

Stay tuned!

Dr. Wily Trophy Confirmed for Super Smash Bros.

Coming from the official Super Smash Bros. Miiverse:

"Pic of the day. Here's the trophy gallery for the 3DS version. You can rotate the trophies by drawing circles on the bottom screen. Super Smash Bros. Brawl had tons of trophies, but rumor has it that the 3DS version alone may have more than Brawl. Looks like the Dr. Wily that we made from scratch for the 3DS version is on his knees in disbelief."

Sakurai adds it's also possible to purchase trophies with in-game currency; an option good for players having trouble obtaining certain trophies. And hey, they even go on sale sometimes too!

Mega Man Unlimited Upgraded to Version 1.2.0

Sixth months in the making, Philippe Poulin (aka MegaPhilX) and his team have released the latest update for Mega Man Unlimited. Version 1.2.0 adds a wealth of new features and fixes to the popular fan-game, including Endless Attack Mode and Endless Boss Attack Mode. These additions and more are highlighted in the above trailer.

As per usual, you can download the update from the game's official website here. If you're new to the Mega Man Unlimited scene, Destructoid has a great write-up explaining the ins and outs of the project. Definitely worth the read.

GE Animation Making Rush Plushie

Ready for more merchandise? If a leaked retail listing is to be believe, GE Animation is going to be releasing an officially licensed plush Rush. This will be out towards the end of August, priced at $29.99. A source close to GE Animation informs me it clocks in at 4"L x 10"W x 9"H. Decent cuddling size, in other words.

This won't be the last of the plush line, FYI. I've been told additional classic series characters are on the burner. With Mega Man and Proto Man plushies selling particularly well, the future is bright as ever for soft Mega Man goods.
