Mega Man Unlimited Now on Mac; Easy Mode in the Works (Updated)

For the Mac owners out there, you can now directly run Mega Man Unlimited in OS X thanks to the generous porting efforts of OneWeakness. Now you too can enjoy the bliss of dying over and over again!

Yeah, MMU can be pretty hard. Which brings us to another tidbit of news: MegaPhilX is currently working on a brand new Easy mode that will appear in a future balance update. Taking a page from Mega Man 10, this new mode will add safety blocks over some pits and spikes, add extra checkpoints in the castle Stages, and adjust the speed of certain obstacles (like those crazy lasers Rainbow Man's stage). For those who like the difficulty as is, the update will also bring a new challenge in the form of a one-hit death mode. Ooh la la!

Update: The easy mode update has arrived. That was fast, no? Grab it here!

  1. I'm glad they bothered to do this; as a Mac user I often feel left out of these things... Thanks for the heads-up!

  2. I'm a super excited Mac user, but I think the downloads are either SUPER slow, or not working. :(

  3. It doesn't seem to work for me, though... It boots, but I get no screen, nothing. So, what gives?

    1. I'm having that problem, too.

  4. Eh, I've gotten pretty used to the game over the past two (going on three) weeks since it was released, so I have no need for an easy mode. Not to demean all the work that's being put into this, but I wouldn't play the game on easy mode even if I still found it challenging.

Speaking of updates, know what would be an awesome addition to this game? Proto Man and Bass as playable characters. Yeah, I know what you're thinking... That probably wouldn't work out for story-related reasons, but not if a few adjustments were made. I, for one, think it would be hilarious to see Bass take on the "final boss" and not be able to damage him, since he had previously scoffed at him in one of the other games.

  5. "Easy mode" seems kind of insulting. Though to be fair, Mega Man Zero did the exact same thing the exact same way if you got a bad enough ranking. But it was a lot more subtle about it... (It just put the safety blocks over the spikes, not on top. >_>;)

    1. Somehow, I was reminded of this from a few years back, before Mega Man 10's release.

  6. Instant death mode? Considering the difficulty this already has, it sounds more like Impossible mode to me. But I'm actually glad in a way that it's getting a balance update. After watching gameplay on youtube, the game seemed way too difficult for me to even attempt.

  7. This game needs a Normal Mode, so we can feel some accomplishment of not being it on the easiest difficulty.

    1. I agree with you. We need a Normal mode, so it can give some experience for a challenge. If you play the game with the hard mode, it won't give you that experience because the obstacles and others can be much difficult to clear all the stages.

  8. Just realize easy mode is normal mode and that regular mode is broken mode.
