Capcom Updates Mega Man: Dual Override Site with More Details

Capcom has updated the official Mega Man: Dual Override website with some new details, screenshots and art. Among the updates are a few hints about Proto Man's playstyle, a glimpse of Mega Man in his casual attire, and some preliminary details on the new Custom Chip System.

First up, a few small details on Proto Man. Capcom's press release confirms that "alongside the Blue Bomber, Proto Man is returning as a playable character. The wandering warrior possesses his own unique abilities, giving players more choice in how to tackle challenges with two distinct playstyles."

The official site goes a little further, suggesting that Proto Man will be able to use his shield for a variety of attacks. Interestingly, though, the shield is nowhere to be seen in his official artwork.

We also get a glimpse of Mega Man in his casual attire, possibly from a cutscene. The accompanying story synopsis is the same one released earlier today, with no additional details.

Next up are some additional details on the Custom Chip System, which, alongside Override, appears to be replacing Mega Man 11's Double Gear System.

Capcom's official press release offers a little more insight: "Install Custom Chips with a brand-new personalization system! Players can enhance Mega Man and Proto Man with additional abilities to freely tailor their playstyles. Equip power-ups like rapid-fire, a protective shield bubble, hover, and more. Experiment with new chip combinations and discover strategies that are uniquely your own."

We also get an additional screenshot of Mega Man facing off against Twinkle Girl. The site also includes a small character bio: "An apprentice entertainer robot. Her desire to perform on the main stage has sparked out of control, and now she's on a fireworks rampage!"

Finally, Capcom is very clearly teasing the return of more past Robot Masters beyond Astro Man. Its press release states: "In the trailer, a Robot Master longtime fans may recognize as Astro Man from Mega Man 8 flew into frame! Will other classic Robot Masters return for this adventure? Stay tuned for more details!"

Between that wording and Astro Man's return, it certainly sounds like he won't be the only familiar face coming back.

That about does it for now. More Dual Override updates coming this week!

  4. Also chips reminds me of MMX armor upgrades. More aspects that seem to build up to the MMX tech or MMX story elements. MM8 hinting at an aspect of the virus (energy-based and evil and spreads in a physical sense), MM&B with the idea of a robot wanting a world only for robots and AI getting a true mind of its own (King), MM9 letting us know why we don't see classic robots anymore (expiration dates), MM10 showing yet another aspect of the virus (maybe the computer virus aspect), MM11 with increased speed and power (probably a standard on high performance reploids), and this may hint of the origin of armor upgrades for X and some other reploids and could be more virus-related stuff (robots going haywire at the museum).

    1. chips remind me more of MM&B upgrade parts. pretty much the same things from what I'm seeing besides X4 boot jets. you got the beat shield, rapid fire buster. but you can have more than one buster upgrade equipped this time

    2. Though it did instantly remind me that in X3, it was called a chip. Seems some similarities to some X moves though. Of course the Zero series had chips for sure.

    3. I'll have to refresh my memory and play MM&B again one day. I actually downloaded the SNES version then a translation patch in 2018 and played it again then, though I did used to own the GBA version, but that has worse sound quality.

  5. Ooh, Mega Man's got Rush Coil equipped in that image of the fight with Twinkle Girl. Wonder if other Rush modes will be making a return, or perhaps even new ones?

  6. pleeeeease Capcom, call him Rock instead of “Mega” when not in the suit

  7. It all looks interesting, however I though the "Dual" in the title would have something to do with the Double Gear and not only 2 playable characters. I really wanted to think that Bass and Roll would become playable again (THOUGH what seems to be the character select GUI looks like it's designed to fit more than two characters...).
Also, wouldn't Proto Man using override affect the whole core thing? Considering how advanced MM11 masters were it seems that we are closer to the Classic and X time bridge, and it'd be a pity to see Proto get killed off (extremely unlikely from a business standpoint though, killing him off after re-introducing him since 10 wouldn't be a wise idea)

  8. I'm lowkey hoping Robot Masters like Top Man and Snake Man return. They're two of my favorites, so I'd love to see them make an appearance in a modern entry!
