Four PS1 Rockman Games Are Being Removed From the Japanese PlayStation Store

Some not-so-great news coming out from Japan this evening. According to Rockman Unity, Four PSOne Classic titles – Rockman 8, Rockman X4, Rockman X5 and Tron Ni Kobun (better known as The Misadventures of Tron Bonne in the west) are being discontinued from the Japanese PlayStation Store in a matter of weeks. All four titles will leave the service on December 13th, 2019.

Capcom Japan did not disclose why these titles are being removed. Further, there seems to be no word if these titles will be removed from other regions either.  Fans can still download three of four games from other sources on the PlayStation Store, however: Rockman 8 in Rockman Classics Collection 2, Rockman X4 in Rockman X Anniversary Collection 1, and Rockman X5 in Rockman X Anniversary Collection 2. Those collections are very much here to stay.

Tron Ni Kobun is, sadly, the odd one out. There is *no* other official method to purchase and download the game in Japan. The Japanese version of the game is also the only way to play the PocketStation Kobun mini-games legitimately, too. I suppose this truly furthers the need for a hypothetical Rockman DASH/Mega Man Legends Collection.

We'll let you know if more news develops on this front. For now, keep your fingers crossed that Tron Bonne STAYS on the US and PAL PlayStation Stores!

  1. If I recall wasn't it a bit of a hassle for Capcom to even get any of the Mega Man/Rockman games onto PSN in the first place? They came onto the store rather late into the PS3's life cycle.

    1. While details weren't given, it is rumored to be due to one or more voice actors and/or Opening/Ending themes. Mega Man Legends 1 also had the Oronamin C and YAG tie-ins.

  2. I need to know if they are gonna do the same for the us as well. Cause, I never bought the legends series on ps3 cause, I didn't think they would ever take it off.

  3. When it comes to digital download games, NEVER assume their will be available forever. So if you have any interest, get them asap.

  4. The commonsense side of this game is that it has a free form accessible mod games on the off chance that you first need to attempt it before really purchasing.

  5. If that's the case then it's a pity for those who are playing these games
