High Quality Mega Man X7 PC English Sound Patch Released


An English sound patch for the Korean-only Mega Man X7 PC port has been out for quite some time. Unfortunately the sounds are incomplete, voices are off-pitch and CG cutscenes aren't spoken in English. It was an admirable effort but not quite up to snuff. Thanks to Gnite Productions, though, this patch is now pretty much perfect (or as perfect as X7's dub can be).



The patch includes ALL English voices and resolves previous pitch issues. You can hear it in action below:

    1. Indeed, it ran well on my PC just fine and with a widescreen hack too.

      Though playing it again made me realize why I sold my PS2 copy years ago.

    1. Mainly because the 3D sections weren't implemented well, and they added the bad lock on system to the 2D sections as well... Which made gameplay more frustrating than needed.

      It's too bad they didn't try to make it more like Legends in the 3D sections, since those played fairly decently.

    2. I agree with you 100 %, I always wondered why capcom didn't use the MML game engine since those videogames came before this ......one. On a side note, I'm still waiting fot a third MML installemnt :(

    3. Uh, Mega Man Legends and 2's gameplay would suck when placed in a heavily action platforming style game like MMX.

      I'm not even sure MML's 3D gameplay is even good for its own series (it certainly works better for it than MMX though), MML3 project seemed to have been making huge leaps to making Legends more action platformer friendly and fixing a lot of the quirks of the first 2 games but I don't know for sure since all I know about it is from videos.

      But I do know a MML or MML2 style engine would not work for a 3D MMX that was trying to be MMX, and would have probably been more badly received than the 3D gameplay we did get for X7.

    4. If it was literally MML gameplay untouched, of course it wouldn't feel like MMX. But obviously they would change the physics to give the MMX feel instead. I doubt that would be worse than X7.

      If it was MML only touched to change the physics to make it feel like MMX, you might as well make a brand new engine, since you'd have to overhaul the living heck out of MML's physics to make it feel like MMX. Not only that but you'd have to overhaul the mechanics too, something like slowly turning the player character's whole body just to shift the angle where you want to move forward would destroy a MMX style game. No way in hell that would be better received in X7 than what X7 has along with many other incompatible MML mechanics.

      I just simply do not see how in any way MML's established engine would lend itself to a highly action platforming (especially one built around stage selection and generally linear stage progression) style 3D game like MMX in 3D. Only way MML's engine would work for MMX is if MMX was specifically trying to make a MML style game, and if that game was titled MMX7 I don't even need to tell you how much of a divide and controversy that would cause. MML being a sub separate series was rejected by the general MM fandom and only till about 2004 the general MM community started to accept it, imagine if it tried to encroach on a at the time highly beloved series with only one real notable bad entry.

  5. Great! Now if only there were a patch that made the Korean port actually run consistently and properly on non-Korean operating systems...

    1. I manage to get it started up and running fine pretty much every time - I've got Windows 7 64 bit - but you have to run the game in compatibility mode (I set compatibility to Windows 95) and run the game as an administrator. That seems to keep it happy...

  6. I’ve tried using the patch and everything seems to work but the opening video is still in Japanese with what looks like Korean subtitles– is this deliberate?

    1. The sound patch only replaces sounds during in game cut scenes and gameplay. The opening movies are not modified, however I'm going to release a movie patch (hopefully in a few days) with converted clips that contain English audio, then I just have to work on the text.
