She's Still Got It! Kinuyo Yamashita Plays Blizzard Buffalo on Piano

The ever-talented Kinuyo Yamashita (Mega Man X3, Castlevania) has taken to YouTube to perform a piano arrangement of her famous Blizzard Buffalo theme (with Theme of Zero effortlessly sown in to sweeten the deal). It's pretty darn amazing, to say the least.

I've spoken with Yamashita on more than one occasion in the past. If you like what you hear, maybe I could ask if she's up for more X3 piano stuff. Yay or nay? My vote is yay.

  1. As much as I love the rock mixes, I've said in the past I wish there was an official Rockman album more akin to Final Fantasy's Piano Collections. Resonnant Vie was a good start, but I'd really enjoy more moving pieces like this. Totally gorgeous!

  2. Yes, very much please.
I'd love to hear the intro mixed with more of Zero's theme.

  3. I saw this earlier when she had just uploaded it; man I can't stop playing it. She really is a talented legend, and I almost let out some manly tears over this.

My vote is YAY, NO QUESTIONS ASKED.

  5. Oh God.

To me, Zero's theme has almost always been the ones I hear in the Zero series and the Sacrifice theme in MHX. Almost always.

Man, when she started playing with Zero's X3 theme... Wow.

And I second Rock Miyabi. We need a Rockman Piano Collections. That Zero theme just sealed that deal.

  13. That was really great. Also, this pretty much has me thinking that most of Mega Man X3's soundtrack sounding so off, was due to terrible instrumentation, and not composition, like most have said.

I'd like to hear her play the intro stage, and Volt Catfish on the piano, most of all. Maybe Vile's stage theme, and the first Doppler stage, as well.

  14. Now, I am by no means trying to come down on her musical genius or anything, since her piano playing was pretty good, and the score she composed for Mega Man X3 was one of my favorites in the series, but am I the only one who didn't notice even the slightest resemblance to that and Blizzard Buffalo's theme (or Zero's for that matter)?

  16. Krazy Monkey: Really? It's obviously not in the same pace, but both songs are clearly there

  17. @Krazy Monkey: What are you talking about? I noticed Blizzard Buffalo right from the get go, and didn't hear Zero's theme in the beginning the first time only because I had a bad ringing in my ear.
As for the piece itself, as EngineR2 said, it was great to hear it. I personally don't mind hearing the SNES & the Arranged versions of X3's soundtrack as I think they both have their merits. Listening to the piece again I could certainly get the hint of the arranged version coming through. While I need to listen to Resonnant Vie again, like Rock Miyabi I would enjoy listening to more of these on piano.

  20. I got chills listening to this! But they're the GOOD kind of chills! I loved it. It's as if that bit of Zero's theme was meant for this rendition of Blizzard Buffalo's theme! I enjoy how powerful the music grows at 1:47 into the video.

And it warms my heart that Kinuyo Yamashita has shared this with the world, and we Mega Man X fans certainly get more out of it, since it's one of the most memorable and mysterious tracks of Mega Man X3. Although, I think any video game fan should leave the video feeling enchanted by such a piece as this one.

And my vote? From a fellow female composer, it's a YAY! ^w^
