Mega Man X Dons First Armor in Extended Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite Gameplay

The reveal of Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite's Captain America and Morrigan brought an extra surprise: X's First Armor. Though not officially confirmed, it would appear X dons his X1 duds when engaging one of his Super moves. The move in question comes in at 0:32 in the clip above.

I know it's not the best video but it'll make do for now. I'll update this post when Capcom rolls out the official version. UPDATE: Got it!

    2. Thank you for saying his name right. Stupid Capcom of america, His name is X you idiots JUST X!

His name was never Rockman X, that is just the title of the series.

    3. To be fair, he is a doctor who did voice acting for fun

    4. Dr. Light referred to him as Rockman X in Irregular Hunter X though.

    5. Dr. Light explicitly refers to his creation as "Rockman X" in the Japanese version of Maverick Hunter X. That was no localization error, his full name -IS- Rockman/Mega Man X.

    6. @MegaNerdX: Really? When I said that I was referring to the originals, ironic since the one reboot game that I took security in titled Maverick Hunter "X" thinking it wouldn't make that mistake is the example you throw in my face.

If this is true Mega Man X is most certainly a title and not his name anyway, discounting over 20 years of the name X with no Mega Man prefix in menus, databooks and games, No one and I mean no one (probably not sure I mean I am not that much a nerd where I know the entire MHX script by heart, but I'm pretty sure) else calls him X or are there any references to that being his full name in MHX.

    7. I meant nothing else calls/labels him *Mega Man X, lost my train of thought hehe...

    8. @Anon: That's a logical fallacy known as "appeal to tradition". The fact everyone calls him "X" doesn't mean his name isn't "Mega Man X". I'd say the creator's word holds a little more water than anyone else who wants to keep it short and sweet (like "Matthew" being called "Matt"). And if you want to go by the originals, there is "ROCKMAN X SPECIFICATION" all the way back in X1.

Besides, Capcom owns the character, so if they want to call him "Pants Man X", they can.

    9. Everyone's an intellectual debater pulling up all types of fallacies... Anyway by creator I assume you you mean Dr. Light, and not any Capcom developers cause both Hayato Kaji and Keiji the real creator and designers of X say and call him X? Keiji even specifically said so in direct response to a question of is his name X or Mega Man/Rockman X.

ROCKMAN X SPECIFICATION is the name of the document for the project involving X the robot. It is my main evidence that Rockman X is a specification for the robot (as in classification) and not the actual name of the character himself, because right after they listed the specs they and I quote said

" "X" Is the first of a new generation of robots which contain an innovative new feature - the ability to think, feel and make their own decisions. However this ability could be very dangerous. If "X" were to break the first rule of robotics. "A robot must never harm a human being". The results would be disastrous and I fear that no force on earth could stop him.

Approximately 30 years will be required before we can safely confirm his reliability. Unfortunately I will not live to see that day. Nor do I have anyone to carry my on my work. Therefore, I have decided to seal him in this capsule, which will test his internal systems until his reliability has been confirmed. Please do not disturb the capsule until that time.

"X" possesses great risks as well as great possibilities. I can only hope for the best.

      september 18, 20XX T.Right"

Throughout this entire message it couldn't be more blatantly clear Right was specifying the actual robot's name is X, it is highlighted in quotations and everything, he throughout the entire thing specifically refers to the actual robot as X leaving no doubt, while the specification could easily be interpreted as a project title."

In fact in Maverick Hunter X Light specifically calls him X, to the point where X responds "You called me X, is that that my name" to which Light basically responds yes, yes it is, it stands for something too. In fact whenever Light is directly talking to X he always refers to him as X, he refers to him as X so often it is astonishing, as if he wants to drive that name home through the thick heads of observers or something.

"Besides, Capcom owns the character, so if they want to call him "Pants Man X", they can."

^Alright there's is gotta be some kind of fallacy at play here, I'm no argument expert but you can't just say this and get away with it clean. If not I'm making up one right now, I'll call it... The *hold no standards* fallacy.

    10. Not that most would listen, but yeah. His name being "Mega Man X" or "Rockman X" was always a given. It's just easier to call him X.

    11. ^No it wasn't... Let me guess Zero's name is Mega Man Zero but he is called Zero for short, after all there is proof of him being called Mega Man Zero after all.

    12. If you want to talk ridiculous then just look towards the ZX series where people are called MegaMen when doning armor haha. Often asked if their a MegaMan or not.

  2. It was so cool!... then he just fired a purple charge shot that did almost nothing. lol

    1. Actually, it absorbed Iron Man's rocket and then hit him full-force.

  3. Nice to see more things that are specific to X as a character. Hoping to see more as his entire moveset is revealed.

  4. Figured he'd have something like this, cool to see.

First armor is cool 'n all, would love it tho if there are additional armors in his gameplay. X2 armor is where it's at.

  5. I notice X seems to have no voice acting. I wonder who will be doing his voice? Was Project X Zone dubbed?

    1. No it wasn't, they seem to be keeping the MVC3 actors, so they probably will get a non canadian voice actors, like they did when they replaced Zero's with JYB.

    2. They could just go the route Smash did with Classic Mega & make X mute.

  6. Neat but still.. Rockman X doesn't looks so powerful and looks so cheaper in fighting against other warriors. Jeez.

  8. Looks like it will be like Arthur's special from MvC3, were he dons his golden armor for some time to improve stats (but loses the golden and normal armor after its end, getting a debuff until he uses the special again to return to normal).
I wonder if X has special weapons as attacks and will fire their charged versions with the First Armor.

  9. everyone, clearly they're teasing us. and doing it on purpose.
that why the first trailer only showed X base form and not in is brigthests, and those of us who did not get that obviously they where going to put a upgraded armor in the stuff where complaining.
then thay show us the first armor, but only as a "oh, look at this, is'nt it's the first armor?!" in a brief moment.
then they'll put a other thing when we actually see him using the armor, or some of his technique, or a other armor...
they have allready confirmed that Iron man, Ryu, Captain Marvel (carol) and X will play a important role in the game. And since they know well how eager we are, they only show what X can do little by little. So for now on let's chill out and admit: he is going to be awesome.

  10. You know what would be the most awesome thing in the history of awesomeness?
that X actually learn the hadoken in this game. for a crossover where street fighter character appears, that would be a nice shout-out to this classical easter egg

  11. Heh, X looks like he'll have more stamina than is partner. Zero would've died the moment Captain Marvel tagged in.;P

    1. You mean like in MvC3/UMvC3? Cause in Tatsunoko Zero had average health.

Also Zero was the single best character in UMvC3, and 5th most played by tournament players and 10th by the general player base according to Eventhubs stats.

So if Capcom gave Zero high health in MvC3 he'd be out and out broken.

Also if you don't know, being a defensive tank, as in a character without great mix-ups and rush down tools that is reliant on other's mistakes to open them up and is compensated with by having good "stamina" is historically a recipe for low tier in a MvC game. Think of vanilla MvC3's Phoenix for top tier examples, and Arthur and Megaman C and V as low tier examples.

Just saying high health is almost the weakest asset in the vs Series. In all likelihood Zero was 4 for 4 in being top tier in fighting games and no it wasn't cause of bias, it was because his range of moves lead to oversights that players eventually exploited because he wasn't any single archetype like most MM characters would likely be. This is evident by SNK's Card Fighter series were Mega Man cards are always greater assets than Zero's because there they are just inscribed with generic stats with little leeway in terms of gameplay manipulation.

It's also not a good look to just take hits all day, evasion and great counter offensive tools are waaay more important than being able to take a few extra hits before death... Not to mention cooler.

  12. everyone is so optimistic for X in this game. I mean, look at how they did Mega man in the first two games. calling his moveset now. he'll have the mega upper as seen in the vid, rolling shield's charged version to replace leave shield, a vertical storm tornado to replace tornado hold, and that little diagonal shot replaces mega ball.

his specials will likely all come from X1,and maybe he'll use launch octopus's missiles along with a horizontal storm tornado similar to how hyper mega man worked. Maybe his hadouken will be a special too... a very underwhelming special that looks like ryu's hadouken but hits 3 times... maybe 5.

    1. That diagonal Lvl. 1 shot could be done by MegaMan Volnutt in TvC though & I doubt they thought of the mega ball when they gave him that move....so I don't think they did it to mimic the mega ball with X either.

    2. I heard someone point out that the little diagonal shot might be Crystal Hunter.

    3. Honestly, the way the shot lobs and coloring & effects of it, I feel that it is most likely the Crystal Hunter.
